It can actually be used with any subject and is traditionally done on tinted paper. In this tutorial I will show you all the materials and techniques you need, and it's easy enough for beginners!

I've tried a variation with ultramarine and sienna on white paper. Now that I have a better idea of the process, I think I'll go back in and strengthen the tonal contrast.

Ignore the naysayers Michele, this was a great video. I'm better at drawing than painting so this technique is definitely one I'll try. I'd never heard of it before so many thanks for this introduction.

The method, paper & pencils are all new to me. I‘m not too good on people but, find your new to me work good. Maybe I should try. I have a blue, white & sanguine pencil so could try a smaller one, must wait til the paper arrives. Thanks

Michele, the structure you saw in the side of the woman’s neck is the sternocleidomastoid muscle. (I’m a retired massage therapist 😊). I loved watching you do this drawing. I look forward trying my own hand at this. Thank you so much!

I'm a big fan of this technique/style. I've seen it referred to as the 'Conte Palette', and I sometimes use the addition of Sepia and Wheat, from the same Derwent Drawing range. It's a very useful 'training' technique for learning to see, and hopefully render, tone and tonal contrast without getting overwhelmed by colour. It also stops me being pedantic (I'm one of those who, on hearing someone say, "you don't have to draw/paint every brick or leaf", can't help thinking, "I think you'll find you do, actually!") because of the limited palette. Great video!

I BELIEVE THIS TUTORIAL FALLS INTO THE CATAGORY OF "DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS." OUCH, MICHELE, THAT'S 22 MINUTES OF MY LIFE THAT I'LL NEVER GET BACK. I'M SORRY MICHELE, I'VE NEVER DISLIKED ANY OF YOUR PREVIOUS TUTORIALS BUT THIS ONE RAN ON AND ON AND ON WITH VERY LITTLE APPLICATION FOR MY WATERCOLOR PAINTING AND MORE OF A SALES PITCH FOR YOUR NEW COURSE. ONWARD TO THE NEXT VIDEO. CHEERS!

Well, considering it clearly says it's a DRAWING tutorial using 3 pencils I'm guessing that reading isn't your strong suite. She does lots of drawing videos that have nothing to do with watercolor as well as watercolor specific for FREE, so I don't see why you wasted more of your time to complain (in all caps nonetheless). 😂😂

@kaydee88 The title of the video very clearly says "Coloured Pencil DRAWING Tutorial". The word watercolor is nowhere to be seen so I'm confused about where your confusion came from. I also have a very hard time believing you made it all 22 minutes into the video before you realized it wasn't a watercolor tutorial, when in the first 25 seconds she explains what technique we will be using and even what materials to use. You could have easily clicked off before the 4 minute mark when everything gets explained to you. Were you zoned out for 22 minutes or are you just that dull?

@@JustDustyB ARE YOU SNARKY MUCH? TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, NO, READING ISN'T MY STRONG SUIT GIVEN THE FACT THAT I'M LEGALLY BLIND! THAT IS THE REASON WHY I TYPE IN ALL CAPS. I SUFFERED A SEVERE TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY, WAS IN A COMA FOR 6 WEEKS THAT HAS LEFT ME NO ONLY LEGALLY BLIND BUT ALSO WITH OTHER DAMAGE TO MANY PARTS OF MY BRAIN! THE REASON I CHOSE TO USE MY TIME TO POST A COMMENT WAS TO ADDRESS MICHELE AND LET HER KNOW THAT I DESLIKED THE FACT THAT THIS VIDEO WAS MORE ABOUT A 22 MINUTE SALES PITCH FOR HER NEW ONLINE COURSE AND MUCH LESS TO DO WITH THE SUBJECT MATTER. . WHICH I DO BELIEVE IS MY RIGHT TO EXPRES MY OPINION. JUST AS IT IS YOUR TO BE SNARKY. THE SAME GOES FOR ALL THOSE WHO LIKED YOUR REPLY AND ESPECIALLY THE ONE WHO LOVED IT TOO. ALL ARE ENJOYING BEING SNARKY! INSTEAD OF BEING KIND, THOUGHTFUL AND PROFESSIONAL I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED MICHELE TO ANWER MY COMMENT INSTEAD OF ALLOWING OTHERS TO SO FOR HER.
