Oooo! Another great tutorial! The more I learn about portrait drawing the more I'm impressed by those who can do it!
I found how to measure the components of the eye with my pencil, along with that first angle mark so helpful. Thank you for anothet great video and content.
Great video - thank you, Michele! I'll definitely try this out. The tip on how the eyelashes grow was really helpful!
I think it will help me to draw because I went through cosmetology school. We had to learn about bones muscles and many things I never thought I'd be learning. But since you're doing facials and makeup and all these things as a cosmetologist you have to learn about all kinds of things in the face scalp neck hands. Just ALL kinds of things that shocked me. I thought I'd just be learning how to cut hair but there was SO MUCH MORE. It's helped me do my own makeup and other people's makeup and hair as you learn the different shapes of faces and everything in them and even the best hairstyles and makeup for different face shapes and colors and just so much more. Thank you for the video. I really enjoyed it. I'm almost 65 so I'm starting a bit late but if I can control my hands which have some arthritis and pain and sometimes get numb I think I can learn. I have the desire and that's a huge part of accomplishing anything in life. I'd like to see more of precise drawings. Photo like drawings in pencil. All I have is pencils and paper so that's where I'm at. I can't afford more products right now but someday I'd like to learn how to use colored pencils or paint to do realistic faces. I've always been good with color. People don't realize how many shades of one color there are until they've dealt with it. Just the multiple shades of "beige" is incredible.

My best eye yet!! Awesome tutorial!!!!
Woo hoo I drew a great eye first try thanks so much for this tutorial. Brilliant!
Very good and simple advice, but so necessary to making the eyes you draw or paint look ‘real’.

Michele Once again thank you for your expertise, skill, and information. I am just picking my art back up after 30 years or so. I do have some older info you may or may not have of a circular representation that has names of watercolors pigments and it show the what is and isn’t starting from the center, transparent, staining, opaque, and permanent. You have been so generous I thought of you immediately when I was going through my stuff the other day. I have always use this circular tool to help me get the most vivid colors and bright and clear washes. I tried to share it with someone Australian I who has several tutorials on Udemy and you’re a heck of a lot better at least for and to me. I think I get you a little bit. Anyways I am not adverse to learning new things and even refreshers. I am not anyone important just me. But you remind me of someone who I know who likes martial arts (when they were younger) is vegetarian, is above average intelligence has better relationships with guys, than the that girls; I.e. the girls whom often are jealous of her, too bad for them! She also loves cats. Perhaps you both have a few things similar IDK But you decide, oh I forgot she has a math block and studies art loves to sew and apply appliqué to use and make 😂😂 things by touch kinesiology see Hehe I was wondering would it be OK to share the information and 😂whilst you decide if there is any merit to any of it. And let me know There are some guidelines like “don’t use more than 2 of staining and 3or 4 total colors or mud results” etc… she used to be-a neat freak it is not anymore. Anyway don’t listen to those superficial, uptight and petty Americans! You are WONDERFUL. You remain my art hero. DebR.

It is much easier to get lines where you actually want them without having your pencil tip getting caught on whatever texture is under a single sheet. Conversely, it is equally difficult to get the lines right if you are drawing on a single sheet because there's not enough texture to prevent the pen or pencil tip from sliding away!
I drew along with you! Merci, Michele :)

Hi Michele, these are really helpful tips, thank you. The photo you have is gorgeous and shows the detail very clearly which makes the techniques here quite viable. However, I have a situation where I have been commissioned to draw a triple portrait and the reference photo is from a phone. I can barely see the eyes. What do you do when all the reference photos are not clear? Thank you, I just found you and have subscribed to your very helpful channel!

What you do is don't take the commission. Unless it's heavily in shadow and not meant to be seen of course. But it's a big stress, you can't draw what you can't see. Get a better photo if possible. Thanks for subscribing!
Very good

Fantastic. Thank you. Learned heaps. Now... how do I get this effect in watercolour? Awesome instruction. I have some faces and Im going to get into the shading. I sense that if I can shade in graphite it will equip me to achieve shading in watercolour. Ive been drawing the girl with the pearl earring over and over. Enjoying portraiture.

Wonderful!
Great pointers! It is all about looking and not about "knowing" how things look. The one mistake I see most often is about perception of value. When something is white in real life, it is not white in every instance. Shadows make the 3-d shape and can be very dark, even black. In the reference picture the inner part of the eye is quite dark. It will help to make it that dark in order to get the shape right. Pushing the darks takes courage but at least in practice pieces it is worth it. How dark is too dark? Also the artistic licence gives us a possibility to leave some details out. In this case I might have not drawn the little creases under the eye. They look quite strange in the ref photo to start with and only direct the viewer unnecessarily to an unimportant part. I love your no nonsense style and am confident that you will not be upset with my comments.

Michelle, this was a great video! Will you be doing a video on painting a realistic eye with watercolor?
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber
2 жыл бұрын
I'll certainly put it on the list of future video ideas.
Nice video
Thank you... 🙏 😔 🙏 I would like to see your method of drawing on eye, with no makeup. There are fewer "shadows" to "hide things in" / brside. A younger female would be better because of the softer / smoother skin.... Is it a good idea to work on "onion skin" paper when practicing adding your shading in layers???? 🙏🖖🙏
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber
Жыл бұрын
Great suggestion! I am not sure what onion skin paper is?!
Do you have other videos about just drawing noses and mouths? I have watched your videos about drawing faces but I really struggle mouths and noses especially.

Not sure about noses, it's an idea! With mouths always draw the centre line first. There may be some face tips in the general drawing videos I have made too.

My second eye video today. You shoukd see me with my Papermate 1.0 pen doing this.
