    1. SoCal got beat in the elite 8 by an injury riddled UConn team. That same UConn team that SC beat by double digits WITHOUT Kamilla Cardoso! 2. Oregon State transfers Reagan Beers and Talia von Olehoffen and their Oregon State teammates got beat by SC in the elite 8 by double digits. 3. Stanford transfer Kiki Irafen has never beat SC while at Stanford. In 2021-2022, when Kiki was a freshman, SC beat Stanford at South Carolina. In 2022-2023, when Kiki was a sophomore, SC beat Stanford at Stanford. Both of those Stanford teams were stacked. That said, I seriously doubt Kiki can beat SC while playing with So. Cal. 4. So. Cal struggled against Washington State. It took double overtime for SoCal to win…and they want smoke with South Carolina?! PLEASE 5. It's nice to stack the bench with talent, but South Carolina will be just fine. Kiki canceling her visit to SC is a good omen. The last time a certain transfer portal entrant canceled her visit to SC, the following happened: 1. The team she committed to got stomped by Colorado game one of the season, and was upset twice by Auburn and Miss State. 2. They got swept by SC. 3. SC beat them in the SEC championship game. 4. They lost in the elite 8 and did not repeat as champs. To anyone commenting, a word to the wise. I'd be cautious of any "SUPER TEAM" talk. Remember the last time the fans and the media dubbed a certain team a "super team"...well we all know WTF happened to them, and how their season ended!

UCONN has a Big 6'5"... they have a total of 9 players (counting the big) 6ft or taller. The Big is supported by Ice Brady, Patterson, and Strong... Aubrey Griffin. Before you say it... Jana El Elfy has been with UCONN since Jan 2023; is healed; knows all the plays, has done scrimage, workouts and would had gone #1 the year before if she was from the US. She was the best player recognized by ALL coaches in International play and championship. I respect you opinion on ranking but UCONN does have a big and Beers style of play is better for OK.

When you consider South Carolina is returning 90% of its undefeated championshipo team, and has a top 3 recruiting class coming in -to backfill the loss of Cardoso - barring any injuries - why is anyone talking about South Carolina losing out in the portal? Why are people giving consideration to placing left coast USC over them in the preseason polls? They really didn't need to dive into the portal this year. I mean, what did they do? What changed with their roster that warrants such a lack of respect for what Carolina is building on from last year - an UNDEFEATED NATTY season?!?

Why is south Carolina so sensitive? This video was so gentle - basically said they would have loved to have gotten Kiki in case Tac struggles with injury or walker does not develop. But then went on to say even if that does happen they are still the favourite to win championship as Watkins is awesome. Not to mention you have Edwards, Fagin, Kitts, and then back court stacked as well. Who said anything about southern cal being #1 in the polls. I have not seen that anywhere.

@@back2sports988 There are plenty of national sports pundits who are looking at left coast USC as taking over the preseason #1 spot with their recruiting class and portal picks - it's all the buzz since these transfers were announced. It's not about "being sensitive" - it's about trying to understand what's in the heads of the pundits who keep changing the goalposts. SC was preseason #6 last year (after losing all of their starters - which was fair), but now they return all but Cardoso from an undefeated Natty team (who they proved they can win without) - AND add bigs to backfill the loss - and somehow magically, they aren't considered to be as good? WHy shouldn't Carolina fans question the national pundits thoughts and motives?

Seeing what Geno did with an absolutely bare cupboard, I believe his genius will have it going on. I really don't know how good Strong may be. Amari looked like a juggernaut in HS but brought no game at UCONN, Don't get me wrong, I was rooting for her but to no avail. I've seen Jana play in the FIBA and she is a monster and loves to get physical. If, I repeat, If Strong can hit the floor running, and her and Jana stay healthy it will go really well. I believe Ice is another head case like Amari. I love the kid but it is what it is. UCONN's back court is lights out, with Chen replacing Nika, which is hard to do, but I've seen her play and am impressed. With KK and Chen doing their best Nika. With Shade bringing her best game to come, I believe, and of course Paige they will be a monster to contain. But as I said before, Geno's genius will make it happen as usual. When she had her 2 back-to-back 40 min games in the BE tourn, knowing no one was behnd her coming off the bench, she played very well. I also commented in an earlier post that she always seemed to be hit wit a foul in the 1st minute of play. In those 2 tourn games, they didn't whistle her for quite some time. So, maybe the refs were finally giving her a break. Now if they had only done the same with Aaliyah ... :-(

Jana El Alfy is a big unknown. She may be great, a flop, or anything in between (and that's if she stays healthy). But I can imagine that the prospect of her turning out to be great is a deterrent to other bigs thinking about transferring to U Conn. Why go there and risk ending up as second fiddle in the middle? So I do hope Jana turns out to be good. That is just one of the many unknowns for next year (who will be healthy and ready to play, and when; how will the new first year players turn out; what sort of improvements will we see in returning players; how will Chen fit in). It's going to be a very interesting season for U Conn fans. And of course, there may be more fun if the remaining scholarship slot is filled. I'm looking forward to it!

Funny Brady does not even get a mention. If all are healthy Jana, Patterson, Brady & Strong should be plenty in the front court along with Griffin and even Paige playing some 3 She proved she could play the position last year and play at above average.

People are assuming that the injured players AF, AG, AP, CD, and Jana will be 100% healthy next year, but coming back after the injury takes a lot of work and time, and don't assume that these players will be the same. Until there is confirmation that these players are ready to play, the UCONN WBB is an incomplete team. However, Geno is not worried because he knows that "we have Paige Beucker and you don't!"

I agree that returning from injury can take some time and reacclimating to playing also requires a few games under your belt. See how Paige began the season slowly and then picked up. If Jana can convert her cheerleading on the sideline into playing minutes, she'll be fine. But Yana will likely ease back in, same with Azzi, and Audrey isn't expected back to start the season, likely the the conference schedule. I think Q as a 3 or 4 is an X-factor. Her defense seemed to pick up at season's end, and her shooting shouldn't be an issue.

@@dougpost8958 I don't disagree with anything you wrote, but there are a lot of ifs. Until then, PB, KK, Shade, Ice, Q, Chen, and three incoming freshmen still make UCONN a formidable team. If all the injured players come back 100% healthy, then UCONN will be a great team.

@@captain0310 I agree the team is formidible if all the injured players return. I'm not counting on Caroline (unfortunately as she's a fav of mine) and I think Jana needs to be healthy, Strong to contribute over the season, and I'm looking for big things from Q. It's unfair to put it all on Ice as the only big, although she stepped up big time in the BE Tourn.

Back 2 Sports- Gamecocks don’t NEED to hit in the portal; other programs do…Gamecocks have the luxury to peak at it but are not depending on it to fill out an already stacked roster, just to say they grabbed a piece from the portal. Side note- no one has challenged if the “SM handle” that reported visits is reputable; I saw sports media site the handle but sports media wasn’t the first to break the “news” of Kiki so called interest in SC (she had a no contact so she would’ve had to reach out) 🤔 All of us social media consumers ran with the “news”; that’s why I’m not following that handle (we don’t know if it is truly a teenager behind that handle) 😝

Coulda, shoulda, woulda... these are all subjective... Beers was not a fit for UCONN, most believed is why she was not pursued after the visit, and a better fit fo OK. I love the experts who do not think that the current team of UCONN with all the returns are not in contention becasuse they didn't get one player. Please. Geno took a small size team... with a 6'3" forward to the final 4 and beat teams that had bigs of likes kiki and Beers.. and some cases outrebounded them.. Now they have most of their players back; a team within them selves and suddenly they are out because they didn't get one player. Please. It's more than what players...it's what coach!!! UCONN loss because they had 6 players and weakness that they knew if exploited they could not win... i.e Nika fouling out (ND), Edwards foul trouble...etc... So they emphasized and kept at bay those weaknesses by doing a style of play that prevented teams exposing that weakness. Doesn't hurt to have a player like Bueckers either... but if you look at the guards (Ash, KK, even Nika) were avg 3-5 rebounds a game,,, It's the coach!!!! and if no one on here does not think a 11 time winning championship, highest win percentage, records for attending sweet 16, elite 8, final 4, and the fasted to 1200 wins can manage next years players to a championship... you don't know Geno,,,, you dont know UCONN.
