I still can't believe this Xbox (and Switch) exclusive dlc led to Portal 2 partially being the way that it is as the success of it made valve realize that the sequel didn't need to steer away from the portal mechanic.

Portal 2 on the Switch do have achievements though, I found that out after grabbing a radio and got "Good listener"

The Orange Box on the Series X is not 60, but locked to 30 FPS

Good memories of OG portal and portal 2, especially coop with family. Also congrats on some algorithm traction, I can see this blowing up for you

Tbh when I first tried portal on the 360, I was amazed by how the portal was going.

So I remember enjoying this when it came out, I had already played through Portal from The Orange Box on my 360 but the new maps made me get this one. I didn't realize they were actually recreations of the flash game's levels, I did think there was a fair bit of similarities but I didn't realize it was intended as an actual "port". That's pretty cool.

I like the Portal: Still Alive, the claustrophobic feeling fits well with Portal 1 style ( wouldnt fit Portal 2 in my opinion ) , the electric walls, red laser walls and lots of turrets feels nice as unnecessary brutality of GLaDOS

The Switch version is kinda awesome btw. Consistent 60 fps in both 1& 2. You get the same achievements which of course do nothing outside the game but funnily enough show the gamerpoints you would earn. And yep, Still Alive levels are in there under bonus maps

For anyone wondering: It is also possible to play the Still Alive Xbox exclusive Chambers on PC. I can't remember where I got it from but I do have it on my PC and played through it aswell. Furthermore I think some of the ideas used in Still Alive were concepts for Portal but didn't make it like the Crushers, the cube destroyer button and if I remember correctly the light bridge was also a concept for portal in one way or another.

I had Still Alive on 360 and I somehow missed this expansion

I completely forgot about the flash game. I played Portal on PC via the Orange Box back in the day. I didn't know about these levels until I got the Switch ports earlier this year. Both games still hold up really well. Portal 2's ending is still one of the best in games.

2:21 This is not true, Portal: the Flash version started development by 2 people sometime after the portal trailer was shown. and it came out ONE DAY before the release of the orange box. And THEN in 2008 the Flash Mappack came out.

As soon as you said "Portal" Still Alive" A lightning bolt of memories just came flooding back, I can't believe I owned and played through this and had no idea it was something special!

Can confirm the still alive maps are in the Nintendo Switch port, only difference I’ve seen is the cube killing buttons don’t have the cube with skull texture on them, instead they’re just the regular red buttons so no special looking buttons for us ;-;

portal companion collection *does* actually have the achievements, but nintendo switch has no achievement system so its all self contained in the game

The Portal 2 DLC is something I really want to try, but I don't have a PS Move for my PS3. The Move DLC was available there and on PC through some weird hardware, and I really want to try it at some point. There's mods that let you play it with a modern VR set as well, but I also don't have one of those.

Wow, I remember seeing footage of those levels a long time ago and as a child I came to the conclusion that they weren't real because I couldn't find a way to play it on pc; weird deja vu feeling

Portal flash!!!! I used to play that in the school computer room at lunch recess in elementary when my portal obsession started as a kid.

bro i remember seeing people on my friendslist playing portal still alive as a kid and i wondered what it was but just always assumed it was a standalone portal, cuz i only hard orange box. had no idea they had their own map pack all these years

In the game these puzzles are considered challenge maps, which is why their difficulty is so much higher than the base game. They're also not considered cannon, so any story elements are irrelevant.

For the longest time, I thought still alive was just a standalone version of portal for xbox. Until I played it at a friends house. Good video!

Fair enough, I really couldn't handle the controls at some points, fun little game though

i remember playing the portal demo on 360 and always reaching the dual portal gun and them the game cut you off and one of the icons for purchasing showed still alive, also im not sure but i think that the first level of still alive was also free in the demo

The sphere cubes are in the base game in hard mode

I did all the Portal achievements on the arcade and orange box versions to double up on my gamer score at the time.

I remember playing the trial version of this as a kid, then going to gamestop and asking for it to the confusion of the worker lol

It’s funny because I actually own this content plus the xbox half-life 2. I also got the ps2 half life 1 which includes decay. Dreamcast is my next stop and I plan to get a remake of blueshift on a disc. There’s people that recreate it for disc so you can play it in a new way on a new system.

For the wall hole levels I think it would help if there were more glass walls

I have the orange box, portal 2 100% achievements but I still need to go back and complete still alive. I enjoy doing stacks of games. On Xbox I have 5 versions of Bioshock 1 achievements. Korean, Japanese, German, International, and Xbox One versions. All separate achievement list

I do believe this is also in the switch version

Not sure if you mention it later in the video, but this content is no longer exclusive to the Xbox 360! It’s also available on Switch with the Portal Companion collection.

Still alive was my introduction to actually playing half life, i watched captain sparkles tf2 videos as a kid hut still alive is what turned me into a half life and funny enough thru a mod a dmc fan

Hey, this this video is really great! But honestly your intermission clip between section is a bit distracting, I don't really know what makes it annoying, but around the 5th clip I really tired looking at that blue filtered random clip. I think a lot of parts could be better just by stitching part together without that intermission clip.

Im a huge Portal fan so to find out about Still Alive was more fun

Still Alive is on X/S too because some/all 360 games are able to be played on X/S

I think portal was intended to be a puzzle game but in reality it is much more of an open world game than valve wanted

This video is nice, though one nitpick I have to point out is that you stop including theese weird little uncommentated gameplay snippits that don't serve any purpose and just makes the user skip through it.

I didnt know they 1. Made Flash Portal into a mod and 2. made it semi official. thats really interesting. i always thought flash portal was a cute relic of the time, not something theyd every make a part of their bonus content. I only ever had the demo of the orange box which came with a few portal levels and like, a random 5 minute chunk of Episode 2?

you might need a new pop filter, the P's and B's are still a bit too much

So, I played the switch version of Still Alive and can say, that it isn‘t something special… It is a little bit bonus content but more than that… I would say no, but after all short but fun If you haven‘t played it and wants to get it on switch… let‘s just say on the PC Portal runs better
