Regarding the cellular modem, both Windows and OSX have the ability to identify a particular wifi connection as "metered," which can help avoid the system update downloads that you mentioned concern for. However, someone should be regularly checking for & installing updates to ensure they don't cause everything to slow down on Sunday.

I have worked with blackmagic and have found that slingstudio has been a much better on the go rig. Here is few things which I found that made it a nice win. Wireless (Makes setup time so much more easy and no messy cable runs and tape), IPAD wireless APP so you can run everything from anywhere. Automatic upscaling/downscaling for different camera feeds, Internet upload bandwidth live upscale/downscale depending on internet bandwidth. A big plus is the cost is much much cheaper than what it would cost to build this rig. It is a much simpler rig and easier to train people to use it.

*Great setup Brother, but with all due respect, I can think of several small to mid sized congregations (Including my own), who could not possibly afford the price tag associated with your setup. I am in agreement with the technical feasibility and design of your excellent quality setup, but we both know well these dedicated switchers, video encoders, audio mixers, MBP lappy setup, and cameras are really pricey. It's not as much as what it used to cost to do it, but I can't see your setup costing much less than $20,000.00 USD (Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). However, what cannot be disputed is the simple fact you have designed and built a great live video broadcast portable setup that is quite intriquing.*

Fortunately everything in this setup can be run from a computer such as the Mac mini m1 and if you’re looking for cameras that are less than $500 a piece you could purchase Panasonic g7’s or canon t3i’s which output 1080 video and allow you to change lenses and grow your setup. The whole thing can be achieved for as little as $1500 assuming you don’t already have a computer or cameras

This truly is a good setup portable or hard mounted in your tech booth. I'm thinking the cameras was something you already had. Cameras with SDI outputs would be oh so nice one day. Agreed too on ATEM Mini pro unless it is a way to get started then passed down to youth ministry.

(I know you've already upgraded your setup and it's a bit too late for this advice) For the cell router, get one with an external removable antenna, and get a panel mount extension cable to bring it to the outside of the case where you can plug an antenna externally or have a longer cable to position an antenna somewhere more optimal.

We added a MacBook Pro in August mainly to start being able to edit video & audio without paying a subscription (...and me secretly wanting a MacBook Pro because we don't have one at church ha!). I'm finally getting around to figuring out how to get our mix into Logic and then into our main computer for VMix. You don’t need all that stuff to make an awesome stream and reach people. I always say audio first get that solid. Most important, but then I could make a livestream better than his for half the budget the living as one/resi stuff actually really sucks don’t buy into their junk. They can’t even use KZread features like adding a thumbnail and scheduling livestream which are very important. Streaming natively to KZread and Facebook is better because you can use features that feed the KZread algorithm. Main thing: it’s all about your content nobody wants to watch a 1 hour church service unchurched people don’t know what worship is they think it’s just music. I encourage you if you stream to make a special experience for online viewership. All churches are doing it wrong when it comes to reaching new people that don’t know who Jesus is. You can be the difference and you don’t need all that gear to do it! I say all this to encourage you. 😊

CkASDF that’s a good question and it depends on your goals as a church. Is it to show what your church is doing in service or making a experience that reaches people? To me, it looks a lot like the format of trending content on the platform. A growing/trending channel on KZread, builds community, educates and entertains. I think churches can find ways to Uniquely check those boxes but to me live-streaming your in person experience doesn’t do any of that well. Long format video is hard to sell to unchurched. Break down the content, the message portion of church services on average are the peak online attendance. So that tells you what is most important to people already. Now, how do you take that message and begin to check off the other boxes with a video that is 15 minutes or less that also aligns with what your churches vision, values and goals are?

Send it the final output to stream and record? I've used none of those pieces of equipment; could someone with more experience tell me the cons?

I keep hearing that you need an external converter or 'scaler' like the Decimator MD-HX to switch the frame right from your computer to the correct one that is set in the ATEM Studio. AKA most Macs output at 60 frames but if your ATEM Studio is set to 24 frames the Mac will not show up

Do you guys ever use Netgear 10G & 1G switches?... or do you leave that strictly for your IT employees/contractors?

Excellent as always. Is it correct that ProPresenter/ATEM Control manage the program stream and you don't use Ecamm or V-mix type software? Even my high end MacBook Pro struggles to stream 2 consecutive services with software based switching/encoding and will absolutely investigate this approach.

+1 for ATEM mini pro ISO. Much better solution than software based switching.

How are you getting enough gain before feedback off of your pastor? I notice he stays pretty far off the mic.

Hi Jake, great video. My church is interested in the 12x12. We've got nearly the same build you've got there. We're struggling choosing a video standard to use. Our DLRS cameras output at 29.94 fps, BM switcher picks them up at 1080p30 so thats fine. But our Sony xd-cam only outputs in 24 or 60. And our PTZ cannot do 1080p60 with BM switcher because they have different SDI generations/standards. 2 vs 3 I think? Anyway, the 12x12 doesn't do any converting, does it? I am reading that it is inputting any standard. Great! but does it just through put, or does it convert to get to the right frame rates that the BM switcher will be happy with?

Do you use the ATEM switcher to overlay your ProPresenter feed onto your video feed?

Hey, i have a question about livestream and camera control. I've seen loads of video about being able to control your camera settings over SDI....i have the Atem 1 M/E production 4k and i want to be able to send a return signal to the pocket micro 4k studio camera(long name). Do i need to buy a separate unit to enable this function coz my unit has very limited outputs to camera?

Excellent work. I don't see why this setup would not be good for churches that rarely need portability. With front and back removed from the Gator box, is there any cooling issues?

We haven't had any cooling issues. We do meet in a nice climate controlled space, so there may be issues if you meet outside in hot weather. But most of the gear in the rack has dedicated cooling fans.

Thanks for the video as always! But I do have some wonderings.. Not to burst your bubble but is the Smart Videohub really necessary for what you're doing? I don't know for sure but I'm fairly confident you could go directly out of the switcher using SDI ports 1-4 to supply those extra program feeds for the LCD, Hyperdeck and Resi encoder. According to what I've read the SDI output ports are designed to feed into Blackmagic cameras for remote camera control but they also can work as PGM feed distribution. I don't know that for sure though, if you happen to do a test I'd love to know if those ports work for PGM feeds. As for the main ProPresenter feed, you could route that into the switcher and out the AUX out to your stage display. This also adds the flexibility of being able to switch camera feeds into stage displays for IMAG if needed.

Could also go PGM out to HyperDeck, with SDI A out to Smartview and B to encoder, or out Smartview to encoder (or encoder to Smartview if you have one with SDI out). I always try to get my monitor as close to the end as possible so I'm watching what my devices are receiving not just what my switcher is sending.
