On a recent trip to the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart I was lucky enough to be granted some time with the crazy Panamericana, Porsche's most bizarre 911 concept car, given to Ferry Porsche as an 80th birthday present in 1989.
Despite this being a 911 built from the chassis of a 964 Cabriolet, this is actually Porsche's first SUV, and point the way for Porsche's design and engineering trends over the next decade and beyond.
Find out everything there is to know about the Panamericana in my latest video - what do you think of the car?!

I remember seeing this car in nothing more than a small overhead view picture in a magazine but being totally fascinated by it, it’s a car I’ve absolutely loved from first seeing it and as Porsche’s go, it’s right up there with the 959 Dakar and the 917 Le Man winner as my favourites.

This is a typical classic German design. If you had made it back then, the beauty would still have turned your head. If you make it now, it will do the same. If you'll make it in 20 years from the date you are reading this, it will still turn your head and your eyes will feast. The same goes for the Mercedes 2 seat cabrio SL from the late 1970's' through 1989, Mercedes SLC of late 1970's to 1980's with the rear window fins, the BMW 5 and 6 series sedan/coupe of the 1980's pushing towards 2000, the Porsche Panamericana, 959, retooled Spyder, mid 1990's 911 Turbo, and today - at least in my eyes, the 2021 Porsche 911 Targa 4 which will keep the whole thing rolling. Now, I wish I could only own one:(
