Porsche Cayenne Trunk Shocks Replacement

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here's a video for why your trunk shocks keep failing I just made:
• Why Your Trunk Shocks ...
Here's the link to Pelican Parts where I got these:
www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...
Scroll down to the Hatch Shock section.
We got the Stabilus brand which is an OEM supplier for $111 shipped.
They're sold separately so make sure you change your Quantity to Two.
Part # 955-512-550-06-M24
I also explained in the video how the glass shocks also assist in opening the trunk. So if you scroll down one more section in the link above it also has the glass trunk shocks available. I wish we had new ones when we did this install and I recommend buying these as well and replacing all as a set of 4. I believe the reason people have issues with replacing the trunk shocks more frequently is due to the fact that the glass trunk shocks are neglected therefore causing more stress and faster wear on the normal trunk shocks. I hope this was helpful to anyone out there who owns a Porsche Cayenne. Thanks for watching and please Like and Subscribe.

I have replaced them 3 times on my 2006 Cayenne in about 14 years. I normally remove the side trim and never remove the C pillar trim or the headliner trim. So, the best way to remove the old ones, pop them off on the back and to pop the ones that lock into the pin deep inside the body...here is how to do it. Take à long narrow flat head screw driver and get it in between the gap on the clip that is on the strut and simply push it out. The strut will release itself and it can be easily removed from its location. Yes, when installing new ones, the door has to be at its max open position. I normally engage the ones deep in the body first and then snap the other end into position. It's a pain in the neck to do this without snapping some clips, but it does save money. The dealership will charge well over a thousand bucks for this fix

Kamal, I just did this and followed every step you showed with that first pair. I was able to do it without taking more headliner off. I put the trunk shock in the space, then put the window shock on the knobs, then affixed the trunk shock. Good video, I was expecting it to be a difficult job due to tight space, it did not disappoint. It is a challenge and you definitely need to have a little patience.

Thanks for this video. It made it so easy. I didn't have to remove the main headliner at all. I found it easier to drop the rear hatch which moved the rear points inward for easy access from inside. Shock removal was super simple. Then just clip on the rear points, then lift rear gate all the way up and the front points were lined up for a quick clip on.

Thanks for the quick tip regarding Expanding or lifting the door it's the furthest in order for us to remove the spring. I was getting so pissed off thinking to myself why on earth would these engineers create a spring Longer than the cavity. To be honest I'm not sure if what you just said will work but I'm going to try to reconnect that ball joint onto the door and then lift the door to the highest point and see if it does give me that extra Inch to remove.

How many miles are on the car? Usually if it's thick white smoke and has a sweat smell that would be caused from coolant getting into the cylinders which is usually a bad head gasket. If the smoke is a more blue color then that would mean it's burning oil that has gotten into the cylinders, usually bad valve stem seals could cause that. Both of those causes are usually only noticed on start up. The only unfortunate thing is that both are pretty extensive repairs. I found this link to help you kind of narrow down what it could be and it also has useful information, I hope this helped and I'm sorry you've been having to deal with that. procarmechanics.com/types-of-smoke-from-your-car-tailpipe-what-it-indicates/

I just did this job yesterday 9-19-20, while everything he did and said is accurate I did modify one of the instructions. Regarding the spring clips on the gas springs. I found there is no need to pry them open. Just leave then in place and you’ll be able to get a pry bar behind the spring and just snap it on the ball socket. In other words you pry them off and on. One other note, regarding the heavier of the two gas springs, the ball sockets are 180 degrees apart from each other. I had to get a set of pliers and twist them into the correct orientation. Thanks for the video I would have messed up many things if you didn’t post this.

However, I've been searching for a Trim Shop to replace my headliner and 5 of 5 told me that they cannot do this 2004 because the windshield must be removed to get the liner out. Do you have any input on that, as I'd like to only remove rear trim& 'C' pillar once to avoid speaker and clip issues.

Leo Rigby for the Porsche Cayenne, even with the shocks being fairly new my dad says he has to help open it sometimes. It doesn’t really open on its own completely. But like I was saying in the video, if your car is the same, id replace the trunk and the rear glass ones all together. We noticed the rear class shocks also help with opening the trunk.

The stuff on there is called Butyl Rubber Tape, it’s also referred to as dum dum pretty often because of its stickiness. You might be able to find some at an auto parts store such as Advanced Auto Parts but if not there then I believe that Lowes or Home Depot also supply that stuff. It works best for sealing moisture and water out so I would try to find some rather than finding an alternative glue. Thanks for the comment and I hope this was helpful.

  • @kamalakeel

    @kamalakeel

    4 жыл бұрын

Alondra Rogel first thing is to take the headrests out which there’s a button you can push to remove them. Then at the front of the seat cushions there should be a strap, you pull the front up and it kind of clicks and then you can fold the seat cushion forward. Then there’s a lever on the seat back near where the headrests are that fold them down. I hope this was helpful, I know it’s a couple more steps than normal haha. Thank you for the comment.
