Porsche Boxster Suspension. Front And Rear Struts and Springs

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

2001 Boxster Struts and Springs.
Suspension work on this 2001 Boxster S.
Front and rear strut and spring replacement.
This car has been lowered too low for regular driving. We pull out all the old work. The springs are super soft and low. We get a matched set of struts and springs to bring it back up. It is still a still lowered stance, just not too low!
I know we do not have the other videos on the brakes and wheel alignment out there yet. I just chose to do this one first, the other videos will follow soon.

    That strut pinch bolt. I wish mine came out that easy. No chance. If you're in there, grease that bastid thing. SIOM. I used B6 sport struts, new top mounts and bump stops!

    Very good information and well explained. My question is you did not need to undo the axle from the transmission or the axle nut from the hub to drop the hub? I have seen other videos where they do one or the other it appears that you did neither. This seems much simpler, keep up the good work, and I am a subscriber.

    You can if you want take out the entire rear axle, but I dont. It does make for a slight juggling act in snaking out the old strut and then installing the new one, but in the long run saves time and money. Kurt

    Tremendous Channel and informative (and entertaining) videos. I'd like to ask if the various issues the car had were related to the owner having had lower springs installed on stock shocks. Should he had had the foresight to change the strut as well as the lowering springs at the same time ? I replaced my springs with H&R but my garage didn't advise changing the shocks at all and now after numerous hours of labour cost I have a car that drives really firm and is a horror on some poor quality roads. I look forward to your thoughts on the question I posed. Thanks in advance.

    Yes ideally the original owner of this car should have installed the correct struts along with the springs. However, it has been my experience that most owners and shops dont seem to think the whole job through. A vehicle is a marriage of engineered components all designed to work together. When one part is changed its effects will ripple throughout the entire vehicle. And yes, a lot of the cars problems and issue were do to mismatched parts. Kurt

    @@klassikats thanks for your prompt reply Kurt. I guess I will be going to a different shop to get the car back to stock (I still have the original springs) or contemplate the new shocks to ensure the lowered springs are working with appropriate components.

    At 38:30 when Klassik Automotive Training School was replacing the strut is possible to see that the CV joint boot is completely torn apart. I was wondering how he didn't noticed that. Does anyone have any idea?

  • @klassikats

    @klassikats

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, on that car, the boot had split a long time ago, and the joint had become damaged due to debris entering the joint. The axle needs to be replaced and not just have a boot installed. Unfortunately, at this time, the owner could not afford the cost of the new axle. On a 20-year-old car, work will always need to be done. However, sometimes you need to prioritize based on the owner's budget to what gets done and when. In this case, this car also needs a transmission rebuild. So we made the choice to leave the axle as it is not a danger to the operation of the vehicle and replace it when the transmission is out for repair. Kurt

    Do you not need a spring compressor to remove the front top strut mount? I have a 2003 986 S with standard suspension and need to change the top mounts, bump stops and dust sleeves. I just want to be prepared correctly for the job. I have been in Volkswagen service for over 45 years so am capable of the repair.

    My rear tyres only last between 10,000km and 15,000km and I have even tyre tread wear throughout. It’s because of the weight - The engine mass is right there. Imagine if it was cast iron? 😆😂🤣 The rear tyres wouldn’t last 8,000km. The front tyres last at least 30,000km plus because there isn’t much weight over them.
