Those parting comments are probably the reason I would choose the 3200GT over 996 Porsche! The Italian passion, heritage and flare is something worth paying for with the pain, stress and wallet. After many Alfas, I think I've primed myself for the Maserati life or I'm actually a bit crazy, either way I'm looking forward to it. Still saving but the dream is real. Thanks for the review 👌

I have a 2006 GranSport 4.2 V8. It’s been missed with Larini decats, Tubi exhaust, Firmula Dynamics Drive by wire, ECU tune, lowering springs and beefier sway bars. This car is an animal…for how heavy it is. People fail to realize is that this is a GT and NOT a Sports car. These cars are built for high speed traveling…150 mph +…all day long….sure it’s finicky, but that is just the passion coming out. Porsches are a penny a dozen…it’s like driving a Mercedes/BMW/Audi…..NO PASSION. This gentlemen forgot to mention that this is a 3200 Twin Turbo V8…a classic car. A lot of reviews of these cars are done with poor examples of the marque…because maintenance is so HIGH…but it’s worth it. I always get looks and thumbs up and everyone wants to race me. 0-60 -> 4.4/4.7 top seed 180+ with a normally aspirated V8…no hair dryers attached….just 4.2 liters and 420ish horsepower with my modifications. This car also pulls like a scolded dog and NEVER runs out of breath. So yourself a favor….buy a Maserati, a good example….don’t be cheap, do the maintenance and my GOD lose the boring Porsche/Mercedes/BMW/Audi blahness…..do something different for once. You WON’T regret it.

I've had a 996 and two 997's......I've now had a Maserati 3200 GT for 5 years, it is just so visceral in a way the Porsche can never be. They also don't break, or spontaneously combust. The real issue with the 3200 GT and indeed the 4200 Coupe, is the poor spares availability from Maserati themselves. Wonderful 3200 GT's with minimal issues/damage, are being broken for spares because of the poor spares support. Come on Maserati, if you value your heritage at all, support these wonderful cars that are barely 20 years young!!!!

Why even bother using a tiptronic 996? It is a castrated version of the manual car. A manual 996 coupe crushes everything in it’s price range and outperforms the 993 in all objective categories. It is light, powerful with great suspension tuning. Steering is fantastic.

Till you drive one,,, I own a 996.1 tip test drove manual and tip agree manual is a epic drive but can see why in the day you paid 2.5k to get tip added it is brilliantly matched against the 3.4 perfect for city or in manual mod for country lanes. The tech in a 98 tip still stands well today so Porsche were really pushing the boundaries with a auto box for a sports car. The new auto shift manual PDK are another example of Porsche constantly improving their cars. So before people step on the “ that tip box is not what you want in a 911”!drive one and see why so many 996s were ordered with them fitted over a standard manual

Great, entertaining video! I actually chose both the Maserati and the Porsche, and I own both of them, sort of! The 3200 isn't available in the USA, so I have the 4200 Spyder which we call the Maserati Spyder. I also have a 996 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. I have the opposite scenario on the transmissions, with my 996 being a 6 speed manual, and my Spyder being a Cambiocorsa model. As an owner of both, I can tell you that the Porsche like all Porsches is designed to drive to the track, run hard on the track, and then drive it home with the top down, and I've done that! kzread.info/dash/bejne/kaNlrM6JfpzdY9o.html The Maserati with it's Ferrari derived V8 is an absolute screamer, especially with it's Fabspeed exhaust. kzread.info/dash/bejne/rHaClcatc5O7mtY.html You can watch my Drivin' Ivan video reviews of each car to hear the full story, but the Maserati has all of that Italian flair, and it is super fast too, while the Porsche definitely inspires more confidence with its huge amounts of grip (awd) and extremely solid build quality. The Maserati is quicker in a straight line for sure, and stands out a bit more at cars & coffees as compared to the 996. I love them both, and have owned both of them long enough to know that they are both surprisingly reliable despite all of the negativity associated with Maserati in general, and the IMS / RMS misinformation floating around the interweb. Only 8% of 996 Porsche have had this issue, and mine was taken care of before I bought it with 108k miles. The Maserati had 55k miles when I bought it. Check to see what Drivin' Ivan drives on KZread. It's quite a fleet of interesting automobiles!

Hey Guy, If you ever get a chance check out the Lida cutoff. It will take you from US 95 a little north of Beatty over to Lone Pine on US 395. It's one of my favorite roads anywhere, they built it to the contours of the terrain without bulldozing the off camber rollercoaster corners that will launch you mid-turn. It's just so much fun you can't drive it without laughing out loud! Cheers, have a great summer, Tom.
