Porsche 911 Outlaw: "Project 993" GRAND REVEAL (Includes My One BIG Mistake)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Is it possible to make a Porsche 911 outlaw out of a Porsche 993??? You'll say yes after seeing the result of this 4-month, $15,000+ Porsche 993 build.
Maybe you need ideas for your own Porsche 911 Outlaw, or you're just curious about how much you can transform a Porsche 993 911? Well, you've come to the right place.
I've spent the last 4 months and well over my initial budget of $10,000 modifying my 993 and making it a Porsche 911 outlaw.
Was it worth it? Watch the video to decide.
On the one hand, you'll get your Porsche 911 dialed in exactly how you want it. On the other hand, you'll have to wait for parts and you'll have to go without your car for awhile.
While my Porsche 911 outlaw build experience has been entertaining, inspiring and exciting, it's also been full of second guessing, waiting and missing my car.
But fear not because it was TOTALLY worth it...we are FINALLY at the finish line of my Porsche 911 outlaw build. In this video, you're going to see the final outcome of taking my awesome - yet fairly basic - Porsche 993 911 and making it into EXACTLY what I wanted.

Coming from a guy who generally likes things stock, the blue calipers look absolutely amazing against the polar silver. Even better than the traditional big reds. Excellent choice there. As for the seats, I don't think it's the sport seats that are causing the discomfort but rather the awkward position forced by the roll bar. I've tried both comfort and sport seats in my 993 and the sport seats are far more comfortable and supportive. It would be a different story entirely if I was unable to set and recline the seat to my liking. My recommendation is to A-B test before making any other changes that cost money. Remove the roll bar (you don't need it anyway if you are not tracking) and set the sport seats to the desired position. Only if it doesn't work out should you spend additional money on modifying the comfort seats to match the interior.

Keep the sport seats. Dump the roll bar! The mods on your car is pretty identical to my one other than my hard back seats being a factory option. Good to hear the SW chip makes a difference. Might give it a go :)

Understand your concern on the seats and roll bar. They will sell! I personally like Red Calipers...to me it is more Porsche! And it ties in with your interior scheme. I added the PORSCHE decal (black) and the results are great. Ties in the black interior. Look forward to future videos!

Will, nice build. I’ve got the same year and color. Got the PSS10 installed this February per your suggestion. They’re great. Was going to do sport seats next year but your comments on this one have me rethinking now. I have silver side decals with Dijon PORSCHE lettering and will do matching calipers soon, similar to your set up so love that. I also have Fister and Wong chip which are great. Interior color scheme is where we diverge, personally not a fan but I think it’s cool you took a gamble and it’s fun to see a personalized set up. Carpet looks great and love the roll bars and front fascia. I’m considering an RS wing but have to figure out the handlebar light. One thought that I have for you to consider is to body match and paint the rear bumperettes. It really cleans up the back end. Thanks for the video! Skip to 12:18 to see my side decals and a walk around. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z35ktpabg7DfdJM.html

Overall visually I think it looks great. I really like the front bumper, great idea. I agree with you on the seats. Those sport seats aren't comfortable. If you primarily enjoy driving the car on back roads and scenic driving tours those seats will wear you out. I'm mixed on the roll bar, but I do like the rear seat delete. The colors you picked out are a personal choice, I happen to think it looks good. Fix the seat issue and you'll be set.

Hours and hours of seat time and no pain or discomfort.

Fantastic presentation. Tartan plaid rocks! It’s your color choice - not a popularity contest. Seat fit is critical, especially long haul because that’s how you’re primarily using them. That’s a lot of mods - you really had a list/plan - more should pay attention to that. Fail to plan, plan to fail. Mistakes happen - fix it if you can afford it.

Lovely car, lovely work. No roasting from here. Have you thought of the Recaro pole position seats since the back is redundant you could get the pole position seats/rails and re-upholster in this same fabric. Plus they will likely allow you more space since they are lighter/thinner so you won’t miss having less for/aft movement- I think it could be a solution, cause the present ones are chunky as such take more space. Just a thought. Re stripes, I’ve got Carrera on mine and it makes a big difference( you can do it in blue like the callipers), but if you change the colours of the callipers, make the side logo faint blue so it does not overwhelm the car. If the wheels are black then make em black. Basically side logo must work with either the wheels or compliment the body. That’s the rule I applied and works a treat. As alway good luck and thanks for the sharing. 👍🏾

Well done on the mods. I agree with you, the seats to me they look bloated, the check isn't my thing but I get where your coming from. Your car, you like it. The roll bar, I never get it unless I'm a track racer, racing to the limit. To me your car is a sports car with modern improvements to bring out the best of it. The callipers look fantastic and really compliment the Polar Silver. The bumper, side markers, you fixed the rust and a new screen, really well done on all these smaller things. It adds up. What about loosing the rear bumperettes? Overall, your car looks superb and great stance.

The interior looks really nice - unique but tasteful; well done Will. The seat clearance with the horizontal tube of the cage may have a solution short changing the seats or removing the cage. Does the horizontal tube behind the seats go in a straight line between the vertical tubes? If so , you might consider having the horizontal tube replaced with one that welds to the vertical tubes at a back facing angle and then turns straight for the run behind the seats. My 964 has a Safety Devices cage (circa 2000) oriented in this way.

However, was quoted as high as $3k to refinish at my local air-cooled Porsche shop in Phoenix (30-40 993’s & 964’s there at any given time). How does that quote compare to your cost? Also, curious to see how your finish stands the test of time. Look great - and I love the color

Great video Will. Appreciate the effort of producing content for us to watch. Since your on the hotrod trail, I would recommend you drop the roll bar and try out the Recaro Pole Positons (or similar) as main seats. The hardbacks weigh in more per seat than the softbacks and the Recaro PP's are like 14lbs + brackets in total. With a weight reduction like that, felt performance gain will added to the feel of your car on spirited drives and in changes of directions! I did the Recaro swap in my 993 and I have not regretted one time after the swap. Performance gain is there as well as a better body placement in the seat itself. For me, I also found the Recaro PP's more comfortable than the softbacks on longer trips (I understand that is different from person to person depending on height, body and build), but it is a great upgrade which I can not recommend enough. Best thing is that its easy to custom the seats to fit your new and cool interior as well. Keep up the good production in your videos and If I could be so cheesy and come with a request, I would like to see some more driving videos (both arial and on ground) on some twisty roads with you in this car. There is not so many of those videos in the 993 community so there is a empty gap that needs to be filled. Thumbs up

Like the turbo bumper. Change the yellow blinker to white, even makes the ported fog light look better, I just did mine. Car side view, you have red glass in rear bumper , blue brake caliper, Yellow front blinker glass, take a look. Since you asked. Paint brakes silver to match car, or red to match rear red glass. Your exterior is now custom classic. Interior tartan door panels , change to a solid blue to match seat tartan, or-even towards navy, or back to black. Your seats will look so much better. Get rid of roll bar, especially the red stitching. Put the extinguisher in the trunk, or between rear seat backs. Great car , sounds perfect. Love your car Check out Magus Walker Porsche Tarten

Thanks for the recommendation regarding the Steven Wong chip, are you running catalytic converters? I have the M030 Euro suspension but the Bilsteins really improve the stance of the car. Why Continental over Porsches PCCM? Does the RS steering wheel delete the airbag? Thanks for another fantastic video Will 🙏

Beautiful car. Love most of what you did ( I dont like the roll bar, seats or colored corners). The carpet looks amazing. Where did you get that? I too have a 95 in aventirine green.

I think the car looks great! "a tastefully modified" 993 is very personal. I just do not hear a very enthusiastic tone of voice on this video. Thank you for the great information you always share. You were missed at DRT 2022 for sure!

Very perceptive. In hindsight, some of the choices I made ended up not being ones I loved. Strange, I know, but 911 ownership is a journey and I have since taken the car in a different direction and I now absolutely love it. You can see it here: instagram.com/p/Cbn2u6xJQV2/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

I love everything you did with the car, think I may have gone with the centers like the old 928’s that made your eyes go cross eyed the black and white checkerboard. What you did looks pretty cool though. Would love to learn more about the Steve Wong chip as I to believe that these are great little cars but they have sort of nothing under 4000 RPM. BTW keep the seats for the office I did that with some cobra seats and it worked out splendid for several years. Just uploaded a short on my car, all stock. Considering Fister III

I was just told in the comments the Wong chip doesn’t work with 96 - 98 cars nor ROW cars. Might want to research it. In the case of my 95, I liken it to the sportier throttle mapping that BMW did in their e46 M3’s and e9x M3’s. Press the button and the car is more responsive down low. Chip does the same in my 95. Stage II and Stage III are both great. Can’t go wrong.

Killer, I love the calipers and the square weave carpet. Agree with the roll bar delete and comfort over cool call. Both seat and bar could look seriously cool in an office setting! I closed on a polar silver 993 yesterday. It arrives in about three weeks. It will go nice with my artic silver 996 c4s with a Raby 4.0 engine upgrade. Keep up the good work. Love your garage and stable.

How did you put a aftermarket steering wheel on. Momo adapter? How did you disable the airbag? Heard the dash light turns on with new steering wheels

A hub came with the wheel. I didn’t install myself so not sure. There are a couple of odds and ends that go in there with the hub to disable the warning light.

Bilstein PSS10 is perfect. I’m adding the intake parts to add brake cooling. Changing headlamps to improve night drinking. Don’t like the blue calipers. I have Fister Mod II and I’m happy. I like my leather interior, black and black exterior. I’m changing to 18 inch wheels. Undecided on steering wheel. Undecided on the Chip.

I would have to agree that the seats and the roll bar looks cool but in the end ergonomic will win. Now you understand why the purist likes it pure.

Definitely looks different, I'm not sold on the grey carpets though, nor the roll bar. What do you need the roll bar for? Overall it's a handsome car, I'd say.

Thought it would be a cool visual and add more rigidity but as I share in the video it’s not ideal ergonomically so....

I think it looks good but as long you like it and enjoy it that is all that really should matter. Personally, I don't like calipers that draw attention to themselves and away from the lines of the car. Just me. Thanks for sharing.

Will, the car looks perfect though I can see the roll bar would be a pain in regard to your seating position. Take it out or have it modified, the rest of the car, both interior and exterior are perfect. Don't put a PORSCHE script down the sides, that only really suits the older 3.2 SC or early cars. Your car is definitely the best 993 I've ever seen. Good job 👍

Beautiful. Should of taken a short ride and done a couple pulls. I would of liked to hear the exhaust and see the interior “working” beyond static display. Understand it was a reveal and that will follow. The bar/seat thing is what it is. You have beaten yourself up enough. Cosmetics are awesome. Gotta function for you...so get ‘r right and drive on. Oh baby on that 964. Looking forward to getting to know her.

    In the 95 model in case of Light weight flywheel the car would stall. I had it in my previous red 993 and I had to play a bit with gas pedal while downshifting. The chip would avoid this. 96-98 it's not an issue;
