We had the honour to check out the Live Guitar Rig of Steven Wilson and Randy McStine from Porcupine Tree together with their great Tech, Jason Birnie, during their 2023 European tour. Hello Stephen and Randy. Just so you both know I bought my 97th album by Porcupine Tree. Actually, it was a Stephen Wilson album called " The Harmony Codex." Now I have all three different vinyl issues. So happy to know Stephen is issuing a new record. In my 51 years of collecting some of the rarest and best music on earth, I never dreamed in my life I would be selling my huge collection of super rare records for "Porcupine Tree/Stephen Wilson albums. I would like to add that if Stephen decides to not record any more "Porcupine Tree." albums I respect him for that because he is so universal in the music world I am open to anything he does at this point. Great interview Stephen & Randy.

I've been dreaming of a 2023 rig run-down now since I seen them in Wembley and in Manchester recently. Wembley was easily the best sounding gig I've ever been at.

After seeing them in Manchester in June, it's really shone a new light on the new album for me and made me realise how superb it really is. So much heavier in concert!

Very cool. Happy to see that the "original" green Custom 22 is still out there. I was really surprised that it hasn't been played at any of the C/C shows. I was at the first show in Toronto. I have one that's almost identical! The gold Singlecut Trem has always been an E standard guitar before the C/C shows.

I always was curious what happened to his other PRS guitars as for his solo tours we've just been seeing the gold top singlecut and the green CU22. So nice that he still has the red singlecut in drop-C and even the charcoal singlecut. I was kinda dissapointed the green CU never made the appearance but good to see he still has it. Just from my own experience, that one is actually my favourite as the Dragons have slightly more bite than the #6 pickups he has on his singlecuts. That said, I have been pleasantly surprised to hear how well that telecaster worked in some of the older songs. It held up pretty good. I was also surprised how little difference there seemed to be in tone (at least through the PA) when he was playing his lead solo's. Mostly surprised to see that he did not bring the HK with him (or at least it was not shown). I was under the impression that he still used it for his tele and that a tune like Of the new day would heavily rely on it.

@3:40 Steven is right that they don't have actual "hit singles". But there is no fan who will not expect Trains, Anesthetize, Blackest Eyes, Sound of Muzak.

I believe the Ovation is owned by SW and Randy is playing it live. If I remember correctly, a fan gifted it to SW. I remember it was played live on the early SW solo tours and it's in Nashville tuning.

15:55 Funny error with the b-roll. That's not the Custom shop one. That's the cheaper Made in Mexico Joe Stummer signature. + 17:00 based on some of the live footage that one doesn't really like to stay in tune. I think Evertune could possibly be a good option for Steven.

Hey, every Friday is bass day on the channel. As a matter of fact we have more bass hosts than guitar. 😅 Also, we would've loved to cover the bass rig of Porcupine Tree. Unfortunately the bassist had to leave the tour due to private reasons so we couldn't show you his live setup. Cheers //Kris

Such a treat 🙂 2:19 And this gives me hope that we'll see more of PT...maybe Steven really did just need to be his "own" thing, to make people know PT wasn't just a group effort, it was his "originating" creative project that started as a joke, and probably grew "too serious" over time. Perhaps the dozen years apart from the project made him appreciate just how important PT is to the music world, and it obviously wasn't just his efforts, as time went on: it's a group effort. Hopefully they can reconcile with Colin at some point, would like to see him as a part of the band again. 3:32 Oh this nonsense again...Steven. "Blackest Eyes" "Trains" "Lazarus" "Time Flies"...enough of this malarky 😛 PT had plenty of "hits", with the fans: the band just didn't ever achieve the commercial recognization it deserved, but that's true for MOST "rock bands" today, it's an unpopular art for whatever reason. The world sucks sometimes lol, but it can get better. 5:12...it's Richard's synethsizers ;-) that's the "baseline" sound of PT, as far as I'm concerned. Of course, Gavin added a lot of "muscle" to the band's sound in the 2000s, but Chris was a fantastic drummer as well, so it has to be Richard's "understanding" of the band's sound that is very profound, almost mystical. Just glad to see him and Steven making music again, more than anything else. That really is the core of the band, at the end of the day.

Nate Navarro, the band's incredible bassist had to leave from tour the day before making this video so they had no bass player on stage. Very unfortunate timing, we love Nate and would've loved showing his setup too. Next time! Cheers //Kris

Haha, I know what you mean. I guess what he meant is that they don't have a "Nothing Else Matters" or a "Satisfaction", a song the band MUST play to avoid disappointing 90% of the fans. 😆 //Kris
