Five years ago, I got a kayak from a friend of mine who bought a new one. We were both new to Kayaking, but were always fishermen. This video was the video we watched over and over again to get inspiration and ideas about what to do with our kayaks. After 5 years, my kayak got a hole worn through it and I looked up some videos for repair ideas and saw this in my suggested videos. Watching this again made me super nostalgic about those days spent working on our kayaks, watching this video, and talking about all the cool stuff we were gonna do. Zoffinger, Thanks for posting this back then! It's had a pretty profound effect on our approach to Kayaking and fishing and helped make a lot of very fond memories. You seem like a super nice and intelligent guy, and I'm grateful for you spending the time to make this video. Tomorrow we're going on a river fishing trip and watching this again not only made me even more excited for the trip, but gave me a few ideas to work on tonight in preparation. Been subbed since 2012 and just wanted to leave a comment letting you know how much of an effect this video had on us. Hope all is well! Be safe and fish on!

If MacGyvor had a fishing boat it would be just like this. Friggin awesome. This proves that you don't need an expensive fishing kayak, you just need a kayak and some ingenuity. Keep up the good work.

I've been designing and building kayaks for years and I gotta' say this is the most innovative piece of work I've seen in many moons. If you don't have a degree in engineering, don't bother, there's not much they can teach you!! Haven't read through all the comments so excuse me if someone else has mentioned this but you really need to do something about the "bitter" end on the anchor line. You will eventually lose it overboard the way you are doing it now. If it were me, I'd take the bitter end and put a loop in it, pre string it through the steel ring and hook the loop over the cleat. When you anchor just feed the line out and then secure it the manner you are now. This way there is no chance of it disappearing overboard leaving you with no anchor. The only other thing I see is that fish box. Boy is it clever but the center of gravity is so high I'd make it a priority to figure out a way to lower it somehow. Sometimes 1/2 and inch of vertical CG displacement in a kayak is critical. Couldn't hurt......

Thank you, David. Of the thousands of comments I've gotten on my channel, this one is special; for a kayak designer to give me kudos. Your input has been preceded by many other bits of helpful hints. And I have listened. I recently posted a rigging update (my second update video) and it shows the pontoons I added to compensate for the high center of gravity. I can throw a cast net from this baby now! :^) Thanks again for the comment - Marty

Marty just watching some vids to catch up on. But this boat, and watching you DIY Add-ons, is what got me hooked and I wouldn't trade my kayak for anything. I did start with just a moment 10v2, just to learn. Now i have my 120, mirage drive, my J2 Bixpy motor that just came out 8n 2023. All my add-ons, accessories, DIY's, my small new trailer I purchased. And modded out some PVC to pull the kayak up and lower it next to my truck, but mostly all my gear is on the kayak. Epic videos, and you've inspired a lot of us. 🙏 🌊 🎣

Your ideas are really clever; you "found a need" and then designed a "fix", for that need. I have to say your video was so nicely put together. The first instant I saw your boat in the first part of the video I was thinking, this guy has too much stuff on his kayak! But after just a few moments of you talking and explaining everything I was impressed. I was especially impressed by your adapting and scrounging trash items to make most of the stuff you have. On a budget but so well thought out. On the cheap but well designed. I think your kayak is so inspirational I am thinking about what I can do to my kayak. It is easy to go buy a hobie fishing kayak ( not cheap, but easy) You have done amazing things for a fraction of the cost. I bought my tandem kayak for 100 at a used marine parts store here in key largo, fl. It is a sit in kayak. I have 2 kids under 3 that go with me sometimes. It already has two seats that are mounted on rails inside the boat but I find them wet and not as comfy as I need. So my quest is to find a better seat, possibly one that allows air under my rear so I do not get so soggy if you know what I mean. So if you or anyone reading this comment can suggest anything please feel free. In conclusion, I appreciate the fact that you say you are giving back, what a nice gesture and you expelling so anyone can understand. Good fishing! Jonathan

Thanks, Jonathan. It really does work REALLY well. Though it looks like the USS Enterprise with those pontoons, I've always been more of a Star Wars guy and compare it to the Millenium Falcon. Like Han Solo said, "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts" Haha. I made a video showing my kayak seat modification. I wanted to keep my backside dryer too. My cheap homemade kayak seat

Really great video. It may be a poor man's kayak, but the thought that went into all the details are priceless. Thanks for sharing.

I just bought this yak and wanted some ideas to help with rigging because of its small size 8 ft doesn't give you much to work with but i like being able to slip it into the back of the Yukon instead of putting on the roof. You took the time to make this and I wanted to take the time to thank you for sharing your ideas.

You are genius. I love to build and invent...repurposed stuff...and could probably have designed this, given about five years. Lol. You've saved me a boatload of time. Need to outfit a kayak for my hubby in kind of a hurry...racing cancer and want him to get out and enjoy fishing as much as possible. Looks like you're near us in Florida. We fish the Indian River Lagoon in the Melbourne area. Thanks again SOOO much for sharing what I know took you months, if not years, to accomplish.
