@@CowboyKentRollins I would call them cheap crab cakes, the recipe I use for real Poor Man's crab cakes calls for using grated Zucchini instead of crab meat and I make large batches and fill cupcake or muffin pans and freeze them then drop them into ziplock bags for storage in my freezer. The muffin pans keep all at the same size and when you fry them up while frozen they brown up nice and stay somewhat soft in the center even if deep fried. I do the same with my salmon cakes and freeze a large batch for a later date.

I'm Alaskan Native and I'll tell you that "sal-mon" is the proper way to pronounce it but nobody will ever pronounce it that way. Nearly all Americans except those down south-central USA say "sah-men" instead of the correct sal-mon. I do myself say sah-men just because it's what I heard the most. But, I'd say it like a drunken Alaskan sailor/fisherman.

I make my poor man's crab cakes with fake crab and diced shrimp. You can also mince up some shrimp to add to the mix, to make the ingredients stick together better. Works nicely with the egg as cake glue. Also use a little panko breadcrumbs in the filling so I can control the flavor of the mix better. Panko doesn't have any flavor like regular breadcrumbs. Next time I make these, I'm going to add a can of minced crab to my mix. Thanks, Ken and Shannon, for another great video. BTW: I had ablation surgery in June 2020. Sounds like a scary procedure, but either I was going to die and go to Heaven, or I was going to survive. A win-win either way! ✝🙏🏻 So thankful to God that your procedure was successful also!!!

Kent I'm a native of Baltimore. Just a suggestion, we ALWAYS serve our crabcakes on saltine crackers. Try it, you'll be a believer. We used to catch blue channel crabs on a trot line in the bay using a trot line with stuff like chicken necks, parts etc. Some folks used crab traps, but we'dget a bushel a day. Either way, crab cakes are my fav.meal, with those onion burgers a clise second. Yeah I was stationed at Ft Sill a few years

Congratulations, Kent, on your successful procedure. I am happy to see that you pulled through, and will pray for a speedy recovery. In the north east, people still need poor man’s crab cakes from time to time. Some people mix claw meat with shredded zucchini, salted and drained. Great video! I put out crab pots and catch about 200-300 blue crabs every fall here in tidewater Virginia. They all go into crab cakes, and we have a freezer full that lasts through spring. The patties freeze really well and thaw quickly for frying. My go-to recipe is almost exactly like this -- even the Dijon mustard -- except I use Old Bay since it's sort of the law around here. One trick I picked up a few years back is to form the patty, and then lay it in some crushed Ritz Cracker crumbs and spoon more over the top to coat the crab cake, then pat them in. It makes for an extra crispy crust when frying.

Sadly I had a bad experience at a hospital. They told my husband that he wasn't that sick. He died 2 days later at a different hospital. Today marks the day he died a year ago. We just bought a house and was looking forward to Christmas in this fancy new house. I never in a million years thought I would be a widow. I turn to youtube and a few channels, to occupy my mind. I feel like my life is very sad and dark. Not able to work and barely leave my home. My grief is very intense and complicated. We had 30 years together. We were together since we were teens. Not sure how to go on without him. I am glad I found your channel. I hope your health continues to be stable. God Bless from Ohio. 🙏❤️🤍💙🙏

We add jiffy cornbread mix instead of bread crumbs or some use half jiffy and half crumbs for salmon patties, mackerel patties, and crab patties here in West TN!

I live in a very small fishing town on the pacific ocean in Washington state. Don't go thinking that them crab cakes are some east coast thing. Dungeness crab 🦀 makes killer crab anything ! Also the L is silent. Love your cooking. Glad you're do well my friend. Hello Shan.

Thanks for the recipe. I can eat me some crab cake that's for sure. Sometimes the store has the canned on sale so I'll be sure to pick up some. And Merry Christmas and all the other holidays and holy days of the season. I'm 73 and l know that every day this side of the grass is a good one and a gift.

My mom used to make crabless crab cakes using shredded zucchini squash. The old bay seasoning gave it flavor and the shredded squash looked like crab meat.

I'm relieved to hear that you're doing well. I grew up not even including the "l" in my pronunciation of salmon and catch myself saying it that way half the time even now. I've been partial to crab cakes since tasting my first one in the 1970s so I'm really excited about trying out this recipe. Really exciting news about that cruise....I'm there! Bless you and Shan and a Merry Christmas to y'all.

Wooster-shire sauce is the way it is pronounced in the UK, but here in Australia we throw in another syllable and call it Wor-cester-shire . Similar to how Launceston is actually pronounced Lawns-ton in the UK, but here in Australia we say Lawn-ces-ton. I call it Wooster-shire sauce as it was created in the UK so they must know how it is pronounced ... and it is easier to say.

First and foremost, glad to see you up and around...... Second of all, as a Severn River Rat, born and raised on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, I grew up wrangling Blue Crabs!!!! 🤠 So, Nice try!!!😇 Maryland Crab Cakes... 2 slices white bread, crusts removed and crumbled 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (I do use Duke's) 2 teaspoons OLD BAY® Seasoning 2 teaspoons Parsley Flakes 1/2 teaspoon Classic Yellow Mustard 1 tablespoon Worchestershire Sauce 1 egg, beaten 1 pound lump crabmeat I form them into cakes, roll them in cracker meal, then fry them until golden brown. Please take the ribbing in the jest intended, yours looked really good!!!

My friend you make some amazing dishes! But have you ever tasted Maryland Bay crabs? I grew up in MD picking crabs every summer. Catching them one at a time in small crab pots from a flat bottom boat. I've had seafood all over the country and never found anything better than the MD crab! Old Bay and Dukes are a household standard for us. From chicken to tuna to seafood its used everyday. Want to say thanks for everything you have taught me through your channel. I use your tips at home and when we are camping with our horses. Everyone knows I'm making the cowboy coffee each morning and they show up with their cups. I only use your coffee and Arbuckles when we camp. Thank you for doing what you do and being so generous with your knowledge.

I have NO doubt they will both get used up making 1/2 recipes before they reach their March 2025 best-by date -lol Thanks again for the wonderful recipe and for all that you guys do to keep the American spirit and soul alive.
