polyrhythmic music for microtonal angels

Ойындар

hi everyone, this piece is from last year. a member in my community passed away and this piece was an elegy for her. it sat around on my computer for a year before i rediscovered it and desired to expand it further.
this is multiple weird microtonal systems simultaneously but it all mostly sounds "kind of diatonic with some weird stuff and sparkles", which is a vibe i'm a fan of.
my goal was to make this feel as gentle but active as possible. softly heavy. the official, non youtube title is, "like the texture of a flower petal"
question to all who read this far into the description: do you prefer music videos where i do abstract visualization or do you prefer the music videos where i record the daw playback?
lastly, i want to thank dan-cristian-pădureț for the visual material i processed, abstracted, and recombined to make this.

Its, a coincidence you posted this today- yesterday was the last day I spoke with my Dad, I dont regret not saying anything at that moment, I still regret not doing enough with him before, but we were preparing to bring him home from the hospital so he could spend his last moments with us. I went home and started to prepare for him to return, practice some chords on a guitar to play for him, and later got on my DAW to try and make some music for him. I wanted something simple, sweet, calming, for him to know I cared. I tried to arrange something for him last night, but I couldn't make anything satisfactory, and decided to wake up early tomorrow to hopefully make something. Now, today, I woke up at 5 AM, took a shower, and got on my DAW for about an hour, choosing meantone[12] and, trying to fix something simple but nice up- but soon after, before i prepared anything, i was informed he passed not long ago from when i awoke. Just 11 hours ago as of writing this comment, at 4:10 AM. PST. I hope maybe I can make a elegy, but I dont know if I can Its, so unfair what death is... I have struggled with my religion, I truly want to believe he has become an angel, I hope this video is another sign that he did make it up there. I know if it does exist, he would have made it passed the pearly gates. Thank you zhea

I'm so sorry about your loss. Regardless of religion, I think you can be confident he has returned to the source (however you interpret that) and his essence lives on, entangled in every memory and experience anyone and everything has had with him. He will be present with you the rest of the time you are here in his love and spirit. I believe you can make a great elegy for him. Focus on the intent rather than the quality and let the process unfold and show you what can be with his presence as the guide. Giving you love in your time of pain

You'll probably not see this, but I guess it doesn't hurt to say it to you anyway. I first found you on YT in 2017 on TransVoiceLessons. You only had a few videos at the time. That was a couple years before I even started transitioning. Seeing you grow from where you were back then to where you are now is nothing short of inspirational, and amazing to say the least. You are highly intelligent, extremely knowledgeable and very technical (did I mention super pretty like a literal goddess?). It always blows me away that you can be so good at so many things at the same time. I don't even know how you manage it, but I guess you're just THAT good you're literally a 'one-in-a-million' kinda person. I dabble in music myself (am a saxophonist) and am now also transitioning. But I am not one of those all-rounded, talented people (like you, Zhea), nor will I ever be. But I am truly happy for you, and being able to witness you grow from your humble beginnings many years ago, to become who you are today, that is truly a privilege that I'm glad I had. I wish you lots of love, success and happiness in life! I know that the best is yet to come and I can't wait to see the great things you're bound to do and achieve in the future. If you happen to read this, do have a great day and slayyy! Sending you lots of love! ❤❤❤

Honestly either video type is good. Me personally, I like seeing the daw. But this video is beautiful and you may reach more people with visuals like this. You are so masterful at abstract/transient music. ❤ I love the arpeggio at the end in particular. My music is mostly repeating/recognizable patterns and keys but I do have some pieces that are more experimental. Just had this idea for a piece that starts off being very recognizable but it loses its coherence over time.. like someone slowly getting brain rot.

I like either video approach - it really does change the experience between being more analytic vs experiential. If it's DAW playback I'll be thinking more like "how is this created, OMG what mad skills, let me try in vain to analyse this and fail completely" and with the abstract visuals it's more like "OMG I really love this music, what amazing new feelings it's so lovely to be alive when art like this exists in the world".

Love to hear the beautiful minimalist sounds of many small individual parts making a more clear part. I've been a big fan of american minimalist music for years, and seeing it combined with your beautiful harmonies which are my current hyperfixation it makes for such an awesome peice of music! Found out about you like a week or two ago and I've just been making my way through all of your stuff and have found myself interested in theory and sound, which is a very welcome idea in comparison to the boring classwork of my undergrad studies.

The analytical musician in me likes to see the DAW/notation, etc, but I also think that visuals can enhance the depth of the piece. This, for instance, reminded me a lot of the movie Koyaanisqatsi paired with Philip Glass' soundtrack (also some shades of Steve Reich in there). Ultimately, I think if you feel a certain piece inspires you to create visuals to accompany it, then go for it - KZread retention graphs be damned. Absolutely gorgeous piece, too, by the way.

Yayyy! I was just thinking about your music and now there's a new video up! Though I see that you composed this last year. You can feel sadness in it but it's very beautiful. I think either the daw playback or the abstract visualization video styles are fine, but I think for someone like me (who doesn't understand music theory) the abstract visualization enhances the experience a little more. I can totally understand why you named this after the texture of a flower petal, its a very fitting title for this wonderful recording 💜

It don't know what it is, but something about this made me very emotional. It's difficult to put the vibe of this piece into words, but it feels like it's encapsulating the beautiful journey of a lifetime (perhaps, that of whomever this elegy is for). Regardless, it really made me reflect on my own journey and struggles and appreciate the beauty of it all. I'm so happy that after watching your other content, KZread decided to recommend me some of your 31-EDO stuff (though, I didn't even recognize you at first! Heat from fire, fire from heat :P). Sense discovering this channel, I've been toying with microtonality in my own pieces and I think I might be addicted. I guess what I'm trying to say is, thank you. Thank you for writing this, and thank you for helping me find my voice, both musically and literally ♥

i dont check all the cool youtube channels often enough on account of trying to maximize music making time so i'm late to this, but this is insanely good omg i love like the rain-like feeling of the piano near the beginning, and the richness and contrast you managed to create in with the vocals at the end is really nice also i feel the visuals fit really well, it seems like daw videos tend to get more traction on yt (at least for now), but like as a piece of art™ i feel that this evokes stronger emotions (and also maybe theres some sort of effect where the more abstract visuals have a higher potential view cap than the daw videos if something really catches on and the audience extends farther past people who also make music)

Beautiful piece and nice to hear vocals too! Both music video styles work. Through music like this I've learned to utilize the chromatic scale more instead of staying mostly diatonic (I always experimented a little) and ironically I've received more compliments from peers by straying further from the norm of my rock roots so thank you for that! Gonna experiment more with microtonality once I have the funds to get a Lumatone or a similar controller.
