Ayyy I'm glad you liked it! It's not just the sheer chops and slick playing, but the hip hop influence you mentioned that I really love. A lot of rock and metal mixing is really dense - which is exciting and I love it too - but hip hop production tends to be more sonically separated and purposeful. The guitars going nuts in their own space and the rhythm section hanging back and vibing hard as fuck, with 808s layered on the bass guitar... that recipe just works so well and they've been popularizing it.

This song specifically is more Latin/bossa nova/staccato with a random "whistler" found on Fiver

The drumming is so insane in every song. His TIMING is nearly robotic
Everyone’s distracted by the absolutely wild guitar playing that I always see this absolute monster of a drummer being overlooked. That dude is a demon

As a drummer I also need to show some love to the bass too. He is nasty as well.
Tim Henson is a modern day guitar god. He's out here doing his own thing.

For anyone that doesnt know the term polyphia is a jazz term to discribe when two people freestyling on their instruments create unintentional harmony.

That's so sick
It’s Jazz hip-hop neo-classical fusion and rock. Epic.
2 of the best new generation guitarists. Clay and Clay are incredible as well. Insanely talented. Tim Henson (Final Fantasy Character) is a melodic genius and he says often that he is heavily influenced by Hip-Hop and pop.
Loved this. You're the first non "musician" to appreciate the talent and the essence of their sound: the mixture of so many different genres and how good they are at transitioning into each one. Loved it!

Should watch the making of for this song. Tims unplugged version is crazy and clays drums recording too. Tim paid a guy 5 bucks on fiver for the whistle. Lol
You should check out their songs G.O.A.T. and Ego Death

Yep.
As a guitarist, I guess you could say it's easier for me to sorta "understand" what's going in Polyphia songs, but the drummer's pieces CONSTANTLY blow my mind. He is so unreasonably talented, and his timing is IMPECCABLE.
The hip-hop and jazz and flamenco vibes in this song are unmistakable. What makes Polyphia stand out is that they don't go hard just for the sake of it, they make it beautiful too - so EVERYONE can appreciate it. I played it for my mom today and she INSTANTLY liked it. And my mother does NOT like most Western music at all, with the exception of jazz.
One of the reasons these guys are so loved, especially by other musicians is because how eclectic they are when it comes to their playing. They have songs that are pure metalcore, other songs like this, some that are full on shred and some acoustic stuff all of it good. Just incredibly talents lads
Bro you're not trippin . This is Top Shelf inventory . More , please & thank you ...
Couple notes on what you picked up: Yes, that is someone whistling (I forgot who they got to do the whistles). And when you said you could sing over the song - Tim has mentioned several times that the way he arpeggiates, accents, and uses chord progressions are to almost mimic lyrics. If you stripped away the guitar from the song, you could imagine a vocal track flowing in a very similar pattern. Listen to their song "ABC" and you'll hear it much much clearer since that song has vocals.
Brilliant! No vocals required. I could only dream of being able to play guitar like this.

You can! Practice for just a couple years and this song is within reach. This song is like 7/10 in difficulty, so that makes it one of the easier polyphia songs
When you said "Whaaat, who is these dudes" I got a smile on my face, love seeing people enjoy instrumental talent!
Id love to see ABC ft Sophia Black. 2 new artists?? And vocals?? Also if one of you does it the rest of the reaction avengers might too😂🔥

As for your comment about it sounding hip-hop you should look into Tim Henson individually. He's a producer and the way he approaches writing is interesting
G.O.A.T next. Also great ear picking up the whistle. Tim Henson (the final fantasy character) has a video on the making of this song that would also make a great reaction.
Bloodbath w/ Chino Moreno is one of my favorite Polyphia songs. His vocak style ble da with their olay style fucking perfectly. Great reaction bro
Try listening to chimera by them dude. That song, they found a perfect way to have someone rap on their music and that shit is absolutely nuts. I usually think hip hip and rock NEVER compliment each other but this band found a perfect blend to do it. Probably since they’re instrumental for the most part but they implement it well
So glad you did these guys. They are phenomenal musicians and many of their songs are influenced by hip-hop 🔥
Loved this! I can tell this is an authentic reaction 😊
Goat, Chimera, 40oz, Bloodbath, OD are all good songs to react
I can genuinely see the look of respect, appreciation and emotionally blown away on ur face. What’s awesome is I saw an interview with Tim. he-started as an amazing metal guitar player. Then he decided to start listening to only pop and hip hop and used that crazy musical brain of his and this is what came out of that.
😂😂 looove it!! They are awesome musicians and glad to see the appreciation!!😁😁
Awesome perspective. Would love to see more Polyphia. Subbed
I listen to this song at least 3x a week its hypnosis on a guitar while tying to learn how to play its a goal i have 20 years to try to hit
Are you going to react to more of polyphia? I really enjoy this reaction and deep dive you did! Great stuff 😊
Polyphia has some really wild stuff. Super creative and a total vibe.
Glad to see that you found them. Enjoy the ride
New sub !! More of polyphia please 🤣🤘🏻
Gotta say, I wasn't expecting you to react to instrumental music like this, but I'm glad you did. There's high expectations when you hear a band (like Polyphia) only does instrumental work, and these boys deliver every time I've heard them. Though, I gotta say, you kinda jumped in the deep end with this one, man. 🤣
Love love love the reaction! So much fun to re-experience one of the few younger bands that I’ve been obsessed with over the last year+. Rock on! 🤘🏼🎧🤟🏼 If you haven’t seen Steve Vai with these boys yet, I’m hoping you’ll check out EGO DEATH.

One of my favorite solos in the last decade for sure.
I love Polyphia! They are wicked-talented. If you're interested in checking out some other genre-bending music, I'd love to see you react to some Sleep Token. Try The Summoning first.
Nice reaction! Check out their's GOAT, OD and Chimera, please!!)))
Tim Henson’s nylon stringed Ibanez acoustic guitar is so beautiful and it has a mother of pearl tree of life in lays in the board pity it’s so expensive
Glad you noticed the hip-hop elements. There's a bit of EDM sounds in there as well. They actually used a hip-hop producer for this track who has produced for Young Thug, Migos, and others.
Love this mix of hip hop and bossa nova style nylon guitar
Polyphia as entered the world of music that is brand new. I was raised 45 years in a Record Store. Imagine a 100 years from now. Kids out of the womb will slay music.I see it everyday.
That symbol is the Texas star (where they're from). It's some building there in the Dallas area that's used for events if I remember correctly.
Great reaction.... polyphia is goated
So glad to see you being introduced to polyphia! They’re fire for sure. Check out their song Goose, it’s one of my faves. 👍
This is kinda like a mix of Gabriella y Rodrigo, Afro-Celt Soundsystem, Shpongle and Battles. Love it!!!! Yo Nick, when's the next livestream? I got paid yesterday so I need to throw money at you...and I'm missing my dose of Pop Smoke 😅 All the best mate. Almostwise :)
Chimera. I need to see you react to Chimera. Seriously. Also, this is Trap Music. It's just Trap Metal. Trap ended up cross-pollinating with dozens of other genres. WitchHouse: Trap and Drone/Low Energy House Hyperpop: Trap and modern sugar pop Phonk: Memphis rap and Trap There are now dozens of genres that either approach Trap from a different angle or use Trap in a blending of genres.
Hi Nick, I know right. I could sing to it too. First time. Funk, rnb, rock, hip hop, total embodiment of instruments. My goodness...Peace🔥☝️🤓
I know dude its so gooood!
5:27 - Welcome to Polyphia, my friend! I first ran into Tim Henson (the DMC/FF character) in the Jared Dines the biggest shred collab song in the world 3. I'd never heard anything like what he was playing and I went immediately to find more. Then found Tim Henson and Luke Holland (the drummer in a lot of Falling In Reverse songs covering BTS's Butter. Polyphia definitely does like hip hope and tries to keep things fresh. :D
LOL DMC character. I've been saying that Tim Henson is an IRL anime protagonist. Funny you connecting them to hip hop, Tim has mentioned some of his song ideas have definitely come from him re-mixing hip hop songs
HE LOOK LIKE A DEVIL MAY CRY CHARACTER 😂😂😂 my dude I have never seen your channel before today to my knowledge, I am subscribing for that line alone lmfao
Hell yeah!
I think you related it to hip hop because of the 808 style beat the drummer was playing. The bass line was pretty sick as well, and the guitarists are just on another level.
Glad you found them my man insane talent need to do king gizzard and the lizard wizard next
Clay Aeschliman, their drummer, adds a lot of trap drums into their tracks so that's probably where you're feeling that hip hop vibe. Definitely check out Chimera!
You gotta do electric callboy for some surprise hype and laughs. Songs to suggest are "we got the moves", "hypa hypa", and "pump it".
ABC has vocals and 100% suggest listening to that song as well if you enjoi this one :) Hopefully it comes up in the paid suggestions
GOAT was my first Polyphia song. We never forget our first Polyphia trip lol. Also, I personally say it, “pahl leafy ah” 😅
I still think it's fantastic that the second half of the song is a twelve bar blues
Felt that in my soal boah 🤣
Check out their song GOAT. Tim Henson is absolutely an anime character, except with a guitar instead of a sword. Still a slayer.
You did not mistaken the hiphop influence. Poloyphia has incorporated many hiphop elements into their songs (just as they have incorporated any genre and musical ideas that have caught their attention into their songs). The whistling - I recall reading / watching an interview where TIm (funky haired guitarist) said that they paid a guy off fiver (or some service) to create a whistle loop.
Haven't seen you in a while! Someone give this man a Sleep Token dono 😂
Tim Henson is one of the guitarists (the heavy neck tattoo guy). He is probably one of the greatest guitarists and melodic guitar composers of our time. You should definitely check out some of his videos or some of the more popular videos from their band Polyphia.
These guysmake me feel like our soul language is music, words pale in comparison.
I'm pretty sure Tim Henson sold his soul down at the crossroads like Robert Johnson.
haha the fact they paid a "professional" whistler from Fivrr for this is brilliant
Great! Send it to everyone. Polyphia is so good. You’ve got to do they’re big hit GOAT too 🔥😀👍
Check out Goose next from Polyphia. Different vibe but still has a strong hip-hop influence. Theyve got a alot of influnces so theyre songs can sound very different. They started as a deaty metal band but have morphed into a progressive metal, hip-hop, EDM, trap, funk, math rock intrumental band.
You can see the live version Tim Henson does to see it played if you want
Yes it's a whistle he hired a professional whistler to do it for them funnily enough. On some share skill app. You should watch the Tim Henson guitar playthrough of the song. He does all the parts too in one go. He's the main guy.
I feel like Devil May Cry character is literally the look Tim Henson is going for. You nailed it.
Callin Tim Henson a devil may cry character is the most accurate sht I’ve heard 😂
Fun fact, the whistling is a dude they hired on Fiver.
Fire. Just saw these guys live a couple weeks ago. Check out Chimera next.
Polyphia is a vibe.
You said Tim got a unique look to him.... I think he's literally a real life anime character, especially with all his tats now.
Ascensionism:sleep token BRO HEAR ME OUT
Tim Henson said he paid someone on Fiver to do that whistle part.
There was a whistle loop that they paid a guy for. These dudes are amazing.
7:20 when you can touch an instrument and make thousands of dollars
Loved the reaction man. You don't need to do a reaction video but if you really want your mind further melted. See the lead guitar player Tim Henson doing it unplugged... The end is sick even for me as a guitarist
You gotta listen to Devil May Cry Dude's solo playthrough of this song, he does it unplugged acoustic and the level of talent is in the stratosphere. His name's Tim Henson
You should definitely check out their track Ego Death
These guys are genius musicians. Check out Ego Death and G.O.A.T. next...enjoy!!
You said it correctly
my favorite thing about them is that they don't have a singer because they don't need one.
If I don’t see you do a reaction to them playing “Chimera” I will never forgive you
u should really check out neurotica by them really blew my mind first time i heard it so unique
it is someone whistling. Tim paid someone to record the whistle part.
You gotta to Goose or 40oz. You'll really dig those, I think.
Oh I love them!!! This song. Is a groovy vibe. Check out their song G.o.a.t Such a cool song
you should check out the cover moyun did of it on the guzheng.
We need a talented rapper to write lyrics to match up with the guitar solos... I can see someone like Mercules doing it
You should check out chimera
Super random but nice man. Polyphia is a classic. ABC is another good polyphia song
Ego Death - Polyphia ABC - Polyphia
Polyphia is built different.
Goose is certainly a good one too
Do goat by them!!
fun fact, the whistle is from a guy tim hired off fiverr.
My favorite imstrumental piece is called nuclear power trio. Being more a metalhead polyphia sounds way to plastic for me. But whoever makes instrumentallity cool again im here for it regardless
