Honestly Tim deserves the praise he gets for being the brain child of Polyphia's music, but honestly all the other band members deserve more recognition than they get, especially clay the drummer. He is so fucking good, and has such a unique sound that fits band's overall sound so well, driving the hiphop beat while giving the tracks enough room to breathe and highlight his precise, impressive, and tasteful fills.

Can we take a minute just to appreciate how absolutely unbelievably slick Clay's drum fills are? This whole band is exactly what you said. One of the most talented instrumental bands on this planet. From their musical composition to their playing talent. They do things I will never be able to fully appreciate, I have no doubt about it. Great video, Tank, buddy! We really need to catch up soon, life has been a little crazy for me the past couple months.

@@TankTheTech I've also seen them fuck up while playing live before, which makes them seem more human, and thus even more impressive. Like to play what they play and still nail it like 95% of the time is pretty incredible. Also professional. I think something happened with their click track or the band's monitors in the middle of a song, and Scottie and Drummer Clay were able to keep the song going. Tim and Bassist Clay jumped back in when whatever happened got resolved. Unless you were paying attention, you wouldn't have noticed.

@@TankTheTech You do make a fair point, although bands like Karma to Burn weren't/aren't the epitome of technical, and they name their songs as simple as #'s, do know how to craft a fun instrumental song. Either way, it's still one of the music genres that isn't tightly packed with bands and is far underrepresented. I'll even take a band that has released a few "instrumental" songs throughout their career. I mean, YYZ is considered one of the greatest Rush songs of all time by some of their fans. It's fun watching musicians indulge in some jams that become iconic instrumental bangers. 🤘🏼

You are entirely correct about the custom thing. Tim ran across the original S series in a guitar shop (in Japan or Italy, I can't remember) and asked Ibanez to make a modern version of it because he loved the raw tone coming out of it so much. But it's an incredible value because he was able to get Ibanez to sell it for $650.

Hey Tank! Love the video! I thought I would drop some things I noticed on the nylon string guitar when Tim initially started using them. I believe I saw him use a Godin at one point. I know for sure that the style of these guitars must be inspired by the Godin Multiac. Fantastic guitar.

Man, those two guitars had me hooked they look so cool - even though I haven't played guitar in like 15 years. I know that you are the expert Tank, but what the closest guitar I've found to these is the Ibanez Talman TMX20N (I guess the N is for nylon as I've seen images with metal strings). But even that has the knobs on the front instead of the side, so it's not a 100% match. Some people on the Polyphia reddit think that Tim will have a signature Ibanez, and these are the prototypes. Other than this, great video as usual!

As far as I'm aware, the guitars that both Tim and Scott are using are customs but I wouldn't be surprised if they're eventually turned into another signature model because Ibanez doesn't currently have anything like them and I personally think they'd be reasonably successful as they have a very unique tone and are probably very comfortable to play given their shape. Tim actually showed off a version of one of these guitars like 11 months ago on his KZread channel and I didn't think anything about it until I heard this song.

Some supposed “musicians” say “it’s too busy “ it has no emotion” it’s just soloing for an entire song”. These people don’t actually realize there are no actual vocals in the band! They’re playing the vocals on the guitar . For instance the beginning guitar solo in God is t a solo! It’s simulating a rapper coming out and dropping the 🔥 first verse hard AF! Their music is based on musicians writing ,composing and mixing all genres of music. Creating all the bass parts, vocal structures, guitar harmony’s ,hip hop rap and R&B vocals ,then playing them all at once, together on just a guitar done by one person ,or in this case ,individually buy each of the two guitar players. Polyphia simply mixes all genres of music ,their rock and rap harmonies and their vocal lyrics ,then all written, composed and played on a single guitar ,wether they’re live or in studio! It’s one man doing what a 5 piece band can barely all do together and it’s Ultra impressive to say least. Unequivocally this is next level complicated music with more emotion and structure than some give them credit for! The bottom line is It’s not just music but artistic writing and musical brilliance at some of it’s absolute finest and most genius! As a professional studio musician ,Drummer and lead guitarist I can say I both hear and feel the absolute magnificence of Polyphia! -Crisis

Magnetic pickups can not be used on nylon string guitars. Magnetic pickups work because a metal string is vibrating near a magnet with a coil of wire wrapped around it. The vibrating string causes fluctuations in the magnetic field of the pickup and is induced into the coil as alternating voltage :)

I recently created an instrumental rock/metal station on Pandora, seeded with Angel Vivaldi, Polyphia, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Michael Angelo Batio, and Animals as Leaders. Thanks to it, I’ve found Intervals, Andy James, and Divinex as well.

Hey @tankthetech the guitar in question is an Ibanez Talman custom without a soundhole. Discontinued but that's what it is per a Polyphia information blog and Ibanez page. Anyways - still hoping you'll jump on The Warning train as well as the latest Blind Guardian video just released. And of course Veio - Like Cyanide new video is about to drop.

I love that Polyphia is accessible to people who aren't music nerds. Like, I can play it while I have friends over who don't even know what a time signature is and they can groove to it in the background. Most prog bands sound like garbage to people who don't have degrees from Juilliard. Try playing Between the Buried and Me or Dream Theater at your next gathering and see how well that goes over.
