i really know what tim henson meant when he said he was inspired by modern rap. it sounds like the guitars are rapping over clay and clay crushing the beat. insane

Yeah this is nothing like old polyphia lol their first couple albums were "shiny Djent", much heavier with melodic riffing and solo's throughout. They pretty much went ahead and made their own genre after that XD

It doesn't feel like old polyphia to me. not at all... And it's a little to happy and upbeat and "pop-ish" for my taste but it's still very impressive and has some cool unique phrases and stuff. 8.5/10 but compared to other polyphia stuff 4.5/10. cool but not my cup o tea

This track is amazing. It feels like a mixture of oldschool shreddy polyphia mixed with everything new they’ve made in the last few years and I’m loving it. Also feel like Scott has way more presence in this song. Fuck yeah 🤘🏼

Polyphia has become one of my favorite bands. They have such a unique spund that i havent heard anywhere else. Any polyphia song can come on and ill know its them based off their unique sound

Strange music, in that there is influence from almost every genre contained in it. Heavy metal, flamenco, funk, rock, some hip hop type fills - everything. Masters of their instruments. Even the music isn't your speed, you have to appreciate the musicianship.

Recognize & appreciate the influences as you hear them, or just be an appreciative observer of musical talent without recognizing the influences. It's art, it doesn't need to be defined and analyzed by every little detail until it fits some obscure made up genre. I'm not denouncing you specifically - it's just weird to me how there are so many weird subgenres people keep inventing. It's impossible to keep track of all that stuff!
Clay is easily one of my favorite modern drummers. The guy is just INSANE.

So refreshing. I'm 55 years old. A half-assed guitar player am I. Just when you think that actual musicians are fading away, this happens. I'm just now discovering them. And already I can see that they have shattered through the ceiling. Someone else said it here in the comments and I agree. This band has carved out a new genre. But I can hear the influences. This guy Tim definitely has some Steve Vai albums in his Wurlitzer. This is awesome!

Actual musicians are fading away??? My brother in christ the music scene is BURSTING with raw talent these days. There is not a single sincere musician alive today that would consider themselves a dying breed. Polyphia are excellent, but they aren't a new genre. Instrumental rock has a long pedigree. @@mattd6085 I remember MTV's first day. I watched it. That was when NuWave was introduced to us. Not the old wave of British Rock, but a new wave from Europe. The idea of a few guys with instruments was fading. And then the 90s happened, and we got Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, of course Nirvana, Etc. Rock music was back although changed a little. This is in my opinion the same kind of thing.

That panic attack groove at 2:00 minutes is so good. The orchestration, the up beat cymbal and double time snare, bass playing above Scott's line, and then the octave shreds.
Such a satisfying band to listen to. Just appreciate the amazing sounds of the instruments.
So happy I found Polyphia, they have exactly what I've been looking for without knowing! Beautiful, intricate, melodic, just....majestic.

clay fucking crushed it in this, he always sounds like a literal machine on those drums. it’s nice to hear scott take a front seat too, this whole track is _super_ clean (as always!) everyone was tight and i personally really appreciate the gorgeous camera work. that crazy futuristic angel sculpture at the end was cool as hell! shots like that tie together a kind of new-school polyphia theme, imo

Luke Holland did the initial drum tracks for 6 songs on the album, including this one! Clay of course added his own 'flavor' to them after the fact. This song is so smooth regardless!!!

Holy fuck, between the gorgeous guitarwork, mind-blowing drum rhythms, and brain-melting camera/video-work, this song brings everything together so perfectly and I can't help but feel good listening and watching it. Absolutely outstanding work.
I love when people tell me guitar music is dead and its "all been done before" and thats when I play them Polyphia and it always blows their mind and shuts them up

I watched a KZreadr react to Playing God by recommendation, and then end up confused because "I don't get it. I kept waiting for the intro to end. You all know I don't understand the point of guitar solos, why did you recommend this?" And I was just like... so.... you like poetry but not music, then? 😂

Okay I'm re-listening to the whole album, and it took me a moment to realize the song had changed from All Falls Apart, even when I've heard neurotica multiple times before. This whole album is basically one enormous song.

I’m 68. Very much a sound guy. They make my ears happy. Very talented folks. Each and everyone enhances the other. I essentially started being sound oriented listening to Hendrix at 12 years old. And Beck when I was even younger. So yes I’ve been around a little bit.

The best part is that the voices are actually there! They use vocal samples sometimes in their tracks.
Their ability to blend robotic precision of execution, with just a natural groove, and play this borderline impossible music with as much soul as they do, I honestly think is the most impressive thing I've ever heard...

this is like a new form of classical music. Hiphop/classical/rock combined by some of the best musicians on the planet... 98% of music that is promoted is just a slight variation on something that came before.. polyphia isnt

People have preferences but because someone listens to something else, it doesn't mean that what you listen to as a person should be influenced by someone else's preference. Like a lot of things, music is an acquired taste, you like what you like, and even what you don't like, someone else enjoys :}

My hate of music isn’t based on names or genres, I just specifically don’t like Polyphia. But guess what? That’s my opinion, and no one is required to agree with me. I just don’t like this weird modern stuff that has so much silence in between the notes.

I really appreciate how professional these guys are in music and in running their band. Awesome stuff.
Polyphia is really hitting their stride and I'm loving it. I was always impressed with the skill, but the groove and the melodic lines of their recent stuff pulls me in. This is frickin' killer. Love it.

@@Illlium You wouldn't be wrong in my humble opinion... I mean, the old "a band is as good as its drummer allows it to be" tends to remain true, and in Clay's case he's a fucking monster.
I could practice that lead riff for 20 years and never come close Tim is just fucking amazing. But so is Scott. And if you listen to interviews.. Tim is kindof amazed at Scott's playing

Polyphia has smashed it again! Clay Squared out here expertly locking into the groove, Scott's ripping through beautiful lines with this addictive melody, and Tim's innovating once again by using Selective Picking to play TRIPLETS at an inconceivable speed on guitar. (Seriously, slow down the parts like 0:09 to 0.5 speed, it's RIDICULOUS how melodic that run actually is)

It's like a compilation of different solo's, different instruments in loop. Never the less talented artist.
From nylon string guitars with natural sounds to literal art pieces with the instruments and mv; they literally got such a wide range harmonically and visually

Polyphia reminds me of like a modern version of a classical string quartet. 2 violins=2 guitars, cello=drums, viola=bass. The song structure kind of reminds me of a sonata as well, and it’s cool how the focus of the group is on the virtuosic violin 1 part, although the group’s success comes from all four members.

I love this parallel, I've always thought of instrumental rock/metal bands the same way. The meme also kinda applies, that all string quartets have 4 members: a good violinist, a bad violinist, a former violinist, and someone who hates violinists (replace violin with guitar)
