You guys underestimate the boys. They can write songs. They don't just noodle. They intentionally composed this song to work with Chinos vocals. Because they love him. Scottie held a lot back, reworked the beat and wrote the solo to fit. So Chino would shine. You're right though, the next album will have songs on the radio.

@@ruthlessness6168 Which is funny and so true! It's nuts because they understand RUSH it seems. RUSH I guess knew how to write more formulaic stuff with defined structure that catches the ear. But the thing is,Polyphia does this too. Their virtuosity is just at a different level. These guys just can't hear it. There's vibes or "pieces" that they write. Then there's fully formed songs. Bloodbath is a fully formed song whether they admit it or not. It's basically alt metal with a Dimebag type solo. Though I'm dumbing it down quite a bit. Lol

@@pitpride1220 I mean they've heard four songs and don't feel like the needle has moved much. It's just not their style (which I agree, it's not my style either). They've certainly acknowledged the band's talent but it just hasn't translated to wanting to make em go back to the songs. That's how I feel about Ego Death for example. Like you can sit here explain to me how structured the song is and how it represents rising to heaven or something, but I still don't think the song is one I wanna listen to. I wish I wanted to, and I get why other people do, but for me it just isn't that appealing. It might just be it being instrumental. I could never get into Polyphia, Chon, or Animals as Leaders, but I could spin Between the Buried and Me all day. I don't know if that's it for LIV though cause they did like La Villa Strangiato.

@@chim-choo-ree Its more about music sense, not IQ per say. Polyphia as I've seen it, their genre is called MathRock, which is a very apt name for the genre. Its not for everyone, for me, Ego Death is one of the best guitar songs I've ever heard. I've played multiple instruments, not at a very high level, but I understand what they're doing and it still blows my mind.

From a musician standpoint, this doesn’t feel like overplaying persay. But then again I’ve been into instrumental progressive music for a while. How do it put this? The notes they are playing feel very “intentional” not like mindless noodling. And to me, I feel they constantly hit all the right notes. On a music theory standpoint. They way they weave Melodies together is kind of genius. And the more “riffy” parts of the song have tastefully chosen notes and interesting linear (straightforward) and non linear movement between notes.

Hopefully after a few more listens they'll open up on this one. Also hope they'll finally get around to some of Chino's side projects like Crosses and Team Sleep. They are known for playing songs in a style that catches people off guard, but they have so many others that have great melodies that stick in your head. And some of their best songs have featured artists on them from different genres. Polyphia is just fun and constantly giving us something new. Love your channel. I've been on it for a minute. I think the issue with your take on Polyphia is that you're going into these compositions expecting the same type of structure you would hear in a pop or hip hop track (Hook, verse, hook, verse, bridge, hook). Radio rock, metal, pop, hip hop, or country are typically structured this way to allow space for the vocals to carry the track. Polyphia is an instrumental band. The guitar fills the role of the vocals. It's the complexity and technicality of it all that keeps it interesting. It's not that Polyphia lacks structure. Their songs are very tight and transition seamlessly between grooves. You have to listen to Polyphia and other bands like them the same way you would listen to classical music, as a 3 and a half minute journey. If they simplified their compositions, noone would know or care who they are because instrumental bands generally don't even register as a blip on people's radars. There's a reason why Polyphia is unique in their success as a purely instrumental musical group. And not to discredit any of the other members but Tim's style is that draw for me. I'm sure others feel the same. Anyway, I appreciate the reaction. I get their sound is not for everyone. I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

Big shoutout for keeping it real and saying what you feel instead of just trying to please the fans of the band. That's very rare and valuable these days!!!! I hate when people tell this to me, buuuuuuuut....this is not the type of song that will be love at first sight for people not already into Polyphia It's worth listening to it some more times and go analyze it again. 100% agree they laid a perfect terrain on the song for Chino's amazing voice to shine. The song as a whole is a trip to me...if you let yourself go on that trip, the solo at the end becomes very satisfying.

The solo at the end of the song is my favorite part. It doesn’t really sound like polyphia’s solos to me, it sounds more like… metal lol

Tim ("the plucker") talked about guitars just being tools to write music with. This song is a Polyphia song with a feature, and the band members are probably getting different inspiration from other places as you do with time. If they do create songs that are more like what we see now on the radio, I think it will still benefit from what George (? sorry if I am wrong with the name) with the glasses - said in your G.O.A.T. reaction video that when you heard the beginning you dropped expectations, which I think is right, because I think it's stopping Ryan from hearing the music (it makes sense, if you are looking for vocals). So in that sense it's not a sell out. I commented on your Ego Death video with similar. Like others in this comment section suggested, you guys should listen to Chimera off this same album. I think its parts are the most similar and so can seem more cohesive on a more obvious level - plus rap over top. But the rap feature is easier seen as a feature. It's shorter and at the end, and adds to the feeling of a wrap-up imo - where you get resolution with some extra elements.

To the solo; Scott Paige (the guitarist that did the solo at the end) said that there was a lot of stuff he cut from the solo. Now, I don't know for sure if there was a part of the solo that was cut that would've made the transition flow better, but I just wanted that noted

With respect, I'm pretty surprised with the departure of "free thinking" on this channel. What it seems like to me is that Polyphia is pushing the evolution of pop music forward and in my opinion, it's much needed. It's obviously fine if y'all aren't into it. No one's personal opinion can possibly be invalid. I could be wrong but I just worry that y'all are listening to this while bracing yourselves to be let down with them doing what makes Polyphia unique. I find that I enjoy new music best if I'm trusting the artist to write how they are wanting to be heard. I am curious what y'all will think about the hip hop features on this album. I was impressed. I still love your channel, guys. Peace y'all!

I think you would love Unprocessed, especially songs from their new album Gold. Some people call them just „Polyphia with vocals“, but they’re much more than that. The songs are from a compositional perspective basically pop with definitely some Deftones influence, and very modern almost hiphop production. And they have some polyphia style guitars/bass parts, but those flex parts are always serving the songs in just the way you’d like
