We had new carpets fitted, so before they came, I painted the living room and our bedroom. Ceilings, walls and wood work. Then of course we had to move all our furniture out of the way for the carpet fitters, and while we’re at it, I cleared a lot of crap out 🤣 Just very busy for a couple of weeks! ❤️

Beautiful and I'm always on the lookout for ways to use my alcohol inks. Thank you! Love the idea of the mini-tutorials as well (even if I'm retired and can watch the full ones to my heart's content haha!). I don't know if it can be done in clay, but a tutorial for tourmaline would be fantastic. It comes in so many colours (the watermelon is especially cool)! Thanks again!

I just heard someone say that one brand do translucent leans toward a bluish hue and one to a yellowish hue. I think she said the white translucent has a bluish hue. Hope this is helpful as to why your yellow ink came out green. Worth experimenting.

Yes, that’s correct. Premo trans is yellowish to start with.

If you have anything like the Honeycomb Calcite but in rich greens, this is something I’d like to see, as per your request for tutorials.

That is beautiful! When you first had the clay after coloring it, I thought the colors were going to be too light, but it looks great. Do you have any tutorials that show the whole buffing and polishing process? Maybe that could be a 10 minute tutorial.

That's beautiful, will definitely be trying this faux stone technique. I have two questions, mainly as I am on a tight budget. What happened when you tried using a tiny bit of colored clay to mix the color into translucent? Have you tried a thin layer of white translucent in between the clay for the veining? I would think you could make it thicker that way and a lot less messy too. Thank you for your tutorials, I am learning a lot. Looking forward to more. Tell us what you're doing with your home. Are you remodeling?

Thanks. I didn’t try it with colored clay mixed into the trans, but it would work. White trans for the veining would be, well, trans, but pure white clay for the lines ( not the overall veining) would work if you wanted a more obvious line. Yes, we’ve been remodeling. New carpets, so painted before they were installed.

Out of curiosity. Instead of white paint, what if you put a thin piece of white clay? I can’t seem to find a decent tutorial on a marble veneer effect for jewelry. Thanks for your videos and time. Just love them.

Thanks so much! I’ve been thinking about what you said in your previous comment, and I’m definitely gonna see if I can do a tutorial on something that fits that criteria.

My current stash of translucent white clay is, unbelieveably, very fresh, almost gummy. Tried your technique, but did not get the desired effect, more of an overall color. Will try again. May have to let the translucent white leach out onto white copy paper before I use it. Had to use three drops of alcohol ink to achieve any noticeable color. And the acrylic paint I have is also gooey, not thin. Not sure what else to do to counteract these issues in my raw materials. I live in the south US where it’s been 90+ degrees and 60% or more humidity, but air conditioning inside is at 70 degrees. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

I’m assuming you didn’t use Sculpeylll clay? Yes, leach your clay. It doesn’t matter that you had to add more drops of alcohol ink to achieve the desired color, as I guess different inks may not be as pigmented as others. If your paint is gloopy, either buy some more, or water it down. Maybe try putting your clay in the fridge for a while to help harden it before you use it. When forming the block, try not to overwork it, but gently squeeze to try and keep the pieces individual. Did you allow it to fully dry before you added the liquid Sculpey?

Do you use electric sander. If yes, then will you share what kind of sander do you use. I saw for buffer you are using a small one from Harbor Freight.

I often use plastic wrap to make my pieces dome (I'm cheap!lol) Could one use white acrylic pearl paint when making the faux honeycomb calcite?

I use plastic wrap sometimes, too, but it gives a more beveled look, than a domed curved look. There’s no reason why you couldn’t use Pearl paint.

Thank you so much for your tutorials. They are wonderful. I am interested in learning how to make a finished piece of jewelry designed for a man - inspiration. I have gotten requests from male gender, but nothing much on web as it relates to PC. Any thoughts or ideas in that regard?

You’re welcome! I struggle with ideas for men, tbh, but maybe something from Fimo faux leather. A faux leather wrist band, or something.

Hi! Question for when you have time: while watching this video I wondered if I could save time time in searching for, and blending, purchased colored clays, if I were to color my clay with alcohol inks. For example, I could just buy a lot of white or neutral colored clays and color with ink---and I am guessing doing so would get me to the exact color that I want a lot faster. I am still new to polymer clay so I wonder if that is a "legit" way to work, or is one really only supposed to use alcohol ink with translucent clay? I don't think the "Polymer Police" will show up at my door if I choose to work that way, but I am curious. Thank you!

It’s absolutely fine to do that. You can also mix mica powders into the clay to give you a pearlescent look. It make take some time to arrive at the desired color, but it’s definitely doable.

But jade has got to be just about the simplest stone to make…I wouldn’t do it any differently than the other tutorials out there. I mean, it’s trans clay with some chalks or alcohol ink mixed in.

Why don’t you like using acrylic paint in raw clay? Also I think the sand and buff are much the best. It look more natural, and it doesn’t have that “resin glare” obscuring anything.

I just don’t. Just my preference. Resin has its place, and depends what look you’re going for.
