    So enjoy your commentary - always makes me smile...thank-you! The alcohol technique for crackles is brilliant. I like the subtlety of this better than using gold leaf flakes since this puts the gold in the veining rather than the other way around. Beautiful!!! OH...and your nails look great compared to mine and I don't care either. My hands are tools.

    I’ve really been enjoying your videos. I’m new to polymer clay and have a terrible time making canes coming out right. I loose the pattern by the time I reduce it so it turns into slabs or some of your chippy choppy projects. But you’ve already taught me things to try. Thank you for showing your craft. They are awesome. Having lots of fun.

    I’ve recently tried a new product that Ginger at Blue Bottle Tree had recommended recently for finishing Polymer Clay called CrystaLac. You paint on 4-5 very thin coats, it self levels and it has a high gloss finish, similar to resin - but without the learning curve. Which, as a newbie - I really, really appreciate! CrystaLac is normally used to finish musical instruments such as guitars, cellos and pianos. And has recently been discovered by the polymer clay community. It’s also available as a matte finish too. Haven’t tried that finish, but the Brite is just that.

    dipping the whole piece into polycrilic by the bail hole and letting it dry makes a very shiny finished piece. The downside is rubbing alcohol destroys the finish, unlike with resin, so you'd have to make it clear to clean it with soap and water only. Upside is it looks nice and you can hang a dozen pieces at a time to dry and it only takes a second to dip so it's faster.

    Haha you had to put your teeth back in! I fell of my bike when I was a kid and knocked my 2 front teeth out. I had a partial for several years and the stinking thing never wanted to stay in. One day my sister was annoying me to the point I started yelling at her and my teeth flew out of my mouth. Unfortunately we were waist deep in the Pacific Ocean at the time so they were gone!🤣🤣❤️

    These are gorgeous, love the colors !!!! I want to ask about your beautiful resin finish. I use the same UV Resin you do and it always looks so smooth when I apply it, I also use the lighter prior to curing. However, after my pieces are cured, they always have so many tiny divits on the surface. Do you know of if there is anything I can do to prevent them? Also, I place the pieces in a plastic container until I can make them into necklaces and such but they are scratched by then. Any advice on this? Thanks so much Deb.

  • @clayboutique

    @clayboutique

    2 жыл бұрын

    Dimples can occur for 3 reasons: temperature fluctuation, micro dust particles and overtorching. Do you sand your pieces before adding resin? If so, make sure you clean your pieces in water to remove any dust. Only run your lighter over the piece quickly. As for the scratching, I really don’t know. Maybe it wasn’t fully cured? I always keep my pieces under the lamp for a few minutes longer than recommended. If you do get divots, you can always add another layer of resin.

  • @idarogers341

    @idarogers341

    2 жыл бұрын

    No, I typically do not clean them before I resin but this makes lots of sense so I will start doing this. I do let them cure more that the allotted time. When I remove them from the lamp, they appear to be fully cured but I don't know why they are getting scratched. I may contact the seller to see if they have any tips on this. If all else fails, perhaps the bottle may show tips. Thanks for getting back with me Deb. I love to watch you work, you are so talented and such a good teacher.

  • @clayboutique

    @clayboutique

    Thank so much! The only other thing I can think of is, that maybe you have a ‘bad’ batch of resin. UV resin typically only has a shelf life oh six months.

    @@clayboutique I just purchased the resin and opened the bottle. I've had it happen with that same resin from other purchases as well, so I believe your reply about cleaning the pieces prior to is what I need to do. I will definitely also contact the seller on Amazon to see if they can shed some light on this as well. By the way I wanted to tell you I love the new way your videos start up with the balls of clay, your name made of clay and the roller going over them. This is really clever and neat to watch. Wow, very cool! This is similar to a lithography technique and the term that describes the resulting texture is "frog skin"! Did you not lose some of the crackle texture by pressing into the mold? Would the texture be lost going back through the pasta machine? Wondering if you could do this crackle technique with multiple layers of translucent, and still have the crackle show through.... Not sure if it is ok to ask questions in the comments. If you can't answer it is ok! Thanks for another great video.

  • @clayboutique

    @clayboutique

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Great questions, not sure I can answer all of them. No, the crackle wasn’t lost by putting it into the mold. If you look at the thumbnail, you can see the crackle throughout the layers of colors, probably because there is so much trans in this piece. I didn’t put it through the pasta machine, so I don’t know if it would lose its texture. I’m guessing it might keep some of it, because the alcohol dried out the clay a little bit. Haven’t tried it with multiple layers, so again, not sure. If you try it, let me know the results! 💕
