PolyGloss Tile vs Sublimation Coated Ceramic Tile| Comparison

In this video, I will be comparing polygloss tile vs sublimation coated ceramic tile.
In this video, I will be going through the various steps and doing a comparison between sublimating a Polygloss Ceramic Tile vs a Sublimation Coated Ceramic Tile.
In the video, PolyGloss was coated on the 6x6 standard Ceramic Tile which was bought from a tile. Once it's coated, allow the tile to dry on its own for 1-2 hours. After, bake it in an oven for 300F @ 22 minutes.
Sublimate PolyGloss ceramic tile for 400F @ 10 minutes with a Light Pressure.
Sublimate coated sublimation ceramic tile for 400F @ 6 minutes with a Light Pressure.

    Hi Allan. Thank you for doing this video. I've been using subli glaze to coat tiles and am now considering giving dyepress a try. I'm concerned about getting streaks. In your experience, how much of a problem is that?

  • @atprints

    @atprints

    Жыл бұрын

    Sounds great! In relation to streaks, I would advise when brushing on the solution to gently pass the brush onto the item. If you apply a lot of pressure then you will definitely get streaks and also bubbles. In addition when you cure the item, in most cases the streaks disappear. I look forward to seeing you finish work with the polygloss.

    Nice comparison. Question: It is obvious that polygloss is heat resistant and is cured by being baked in the oven. For practical purposes, you said the tile needs to be sealed to ensure added long lasting protection. If you were to intend to use the 6x6 polygloss treated tile as a trivet, what product would you use that is high heat, cold and water resistant?

  • @atprints

    @atprints

    5 ай бұрын

    Thanks for your question and sorry for the late response. In this case, even if the tile is treated and you want to sublimate onto it, you would have to use the polygloss. I would still recommend using the clear coating after. There isn't really a time when you will have tiles exposed to extreme heat. Yes, you may use them in the bathroom where hot water will run on them or outside on the porch where sunlight would be but it can handle it. The most that can happen is fading after a time. I hope I answered the question and if I didn't please let me know.

  • @atprints

    @atprints

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your question. You can allow it to cool for 1-2 minutes and then take a damp cloth and slowly pass over the tile so the paper can get wet. With Polygloss sometimes the paper sticks to the item so give it 1-2 minutes to cool, use a damp cloth or get a spray bottle and spray the paper to soak it, then peel it off immediately. I hope this helps.

    They cannot go outdoors they will start to fade within 3 months, after 6 months they will start returning to the base colour. There are expensive sprays that can be sprayed over, they only delay fading. UV is the enemy of sublimation, Only the enamaling technique used by the stone masons for example grave pictures will remain with no change over years.

    An equal test should have the tiles of same size and weight, using the same timings heat and pressure. Using a larger tile to compare against a smaller time is not a fair test, unless of course you are promoting the Polygloss on their behalf as an agent . The larger tile will always win. The process to buy tiles, coat them, us an oven to cure them, the preparation is all time consuming, the smell, the space required does not make this a cheaper way of sublimating.
