For years now the CTXP team has wanted to take on a police motor officer skills competition, or “rodeo,” and thanks to the folks at the COTPMCO Zack and Ari were allowed to saddle up next to the best in the 2022 Chute Out. Do the boys have what it takes to keep up with some of the best law enforcement riders in the country? The time has come to find out.
Proceeds from the Capitol Of Texas Police Motorcycle Chute Out (cotpmco.org) go in part to the Sunshine Kids Foundation (sunshinekids.org), aiming to make a small difference in the lives of children with cancer.
Special thanks to Tiffany Curnutt & the COTPMCO, Donnie Williams, Scott Jobe, and David Magers!

As a motocop, I really appreciated this video. I could probably ride a cone course better than you but I doubt I could run a race track or a single track as good as either of you. It's all the same controls but the "feel" of it is different. I'm perfectly fine to let my 850lb Harley dance around in tight manuevers. But when the front tire of my 450lb 650cc street bike comes off the ground and the handlebars get light (especially when not expected), I get nervous even though the controls are fundamentally the same. It comes down to experience I suppose. There are many types of riding skilsets. I want to be proficient in all of them all. This was a cool video.

Well said Joe. I was at the track this weekend and had an unexpected wheelie coming out of a turn, and a small rear end slide in another turn, and I was able to take it in stride. First thank you for protecting & serving. It’s sad that over the last few years our mainstream media turned on law enforcement because they wanted to stereotype (& sometimes misrepresent) the actions of a few as representative of 600,000 men & women. With that out if the way, have you ridden any of the other touring bikes besides a Harley & if so was it as a motor officer? Was wondering if you consider one to be superior to others.

The Motorcycle Safety Course I took was led by California Highway Patrol Officers, and the one thing I remember them teaching us is always look to where you want to go. Don't worry about the cones, as long as your entry speed is good, and you've done everything right, you'll be fine on the way out.

I was a motorcycle cop for 10 days. The training was 14 days. The cone courses in your video brought it all back! I was so glad when we got to the cone course one day and someone had stolen them all! So instead we went out on a long ride doing things like standing up with no hands while going 60 mph. After wiping out the third time, they decided I was better suited for four wheeled vehicles, and I did not disagree one little bit!

Thank you for producing this context. It reminded me of my friends and I, three of us that served and one that wished, but on short haul trips, not like this one, always wished as on this one. Brought a tear to my eyes that dedication of not giving up that we learned and moving forward. This is one fantastic journey, thank you for including all of us.
You guys did great for the limited training you had. Very much to be proud of and now you have new skills in your bag. As a civilian rider who has trained and competed, I know exactly how you guys were feeling on your first rodeo test day. When it came time for my speed run I did everything wrong. I was calm, cool and clean on my precision runs, but when the stopwatch came out my nerves pinned the needle. After you get comfortable with this type of riding, everything on the road seems easier to deal with and it becomes second nature. Keep practicing and you’ll kill it on your next trip to the cone fields. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. It brought back a lot of feelings and it introduced this type of riding to a much larger audience. Thank you guys. Safe rides.

You probably need to get into training on this low speed stuff. This can really save your life… If you cant do it… You are out of luck. You cant ride a bike in traffic your hole life, on just pure luck… Got to get that skill… And you get so much better after just 5-15 min of train a day. And it get so much more fun riding also. So much more control, and you can concentrate only on the traffic, see what others are doing in front of you. So they don't even come close to hitting you ever again. And you riding goes automatic. Braking skill, stopping on a dime with the front brake, even in corners… That is a life saver… Better then having a ambulance or firetruck, with paramedic's, following you around every where.

Most of the BMW motorcycles depreciate pretty quick. A bike that was $20K new will be $7k in a few years. I think a big part of it is fear of some maintenance issues. There can be problems with the shaft drive, and things like a clutch replacement can be a much bigger deal compared to more traditional bikes. And, 70K miles on a police bike is going to be like 120K on a normal bike. Most police vehicles are a very rough service environment with lots of idle time followed up with a high load acceleration.
The Police Motorcyclist in USA, UK, Japan have always been held up as the pinnacle of motorcycle road skills (justifiably so)- I wish I was half as good as these guys 🙂

Awesome episode !!! I have done one small competition in my country that had the similar idea. The track was longer and there was space between different turns and shapes. More like motorcycle gymkhana style. Learnt a lot, and I'm much more confident with my bike in very tight spaces than I was before. Oh and had lots of fun as well. Highly recommend it to all riders to at least practice this.

I'm so glad for the rider course I took. We learned these maneuvers in our basic riding course. It feels great to say "I can handle a bike in that manner". It's fun, very fulfilling and so glad to have that knowledge. If you've never taken a riders course, it's so much fun.

Ari and Zach! This is no joke! Good work - and every rider worth their salt know that these moto cops are the best riders out there.
Living in Europe I had to go through the licensing process 3 times for the A1, A2 and A licenses. Since I was riding continuously ever since I got the first one the other two were just a formality. Still I had to put in the hours but the instructors could tell I was comfortable on the bike so they let me do whatever. The licensing course of course is much easier but I'd set personal challenges for myself like going the A1 slalom which is tighter with the bigger bikes, as fast as I could, throwing the bike around so fast I felt like I'd be thrown off. I'd do the slow lane course as slow as I could clocking in a PR of 47 seconds for the 25long and 40cm wide lane, pinning the throttle on the emergency braking lane and slamming on the brakes after the brake marker to stop with my wheel on the box and all sorts of other things. What surprised me was that even though each single day felt hopeless and frustrating, every time I'd get on the bike on the next day I'd immediately feel more confident and skilled the next and doing with ease things that felt insurmountable the day before. It's amazing what a few hours of parking lot drills can do. Never neglect training or assume you're good enough to not need it. If you have a space you can use and the time available definitely make a habit of it.
Man I loved this! I have such a huge appreciation and fascination for Harley's riding like that. You guys did great and all the Troopers seemed like nice guys. Plenty of laughs along the way too. Way to get it done 👍

I loved this video, shows that riding a motorcycle is not just about going fast. On the other side showing the skils of the cops in his bikes on this kind of events let us see that, with all the work the cops already have, they have a space to compete and have fun with their skils. Great content!
That announcer totally poo pooped on y'all before you even got out the gate. LOLOLOLOLOL!!! Good job guys!
My dad was a motorcycle cop when i was growing up, and he used to do these rodeos in DC with the US park police. Amazing to think you can do that on a 900lbs Harley.

With their low CG and relatively short wheelbase it's actually easier to do these courses on a Harley than it would be on a lighter, but taller bike

The US Park Police in D. C. are outstanding riders. They teach other agencies.

@@kingkrimson8771 The wet clutch on the Harley tends to work a bit smoother when you're in the friction zone to manage speed. Dry clutches will tend to grab and accelerate quickly when you aren't careful. The BMW in this video has a dry clutch but the rider managed it really well particularly when they did the tethered ride. It also has fully integrated brakes too meaning you always have both brakes working whether you use front only or back only. There's a portioning valve that regulates how much of each depending on which you use. If you use some trail braking with the back brake you will still get a percentage of the front brake as well. Riding courses like this are faster if you can avoid braking at all.
It's super cool to see you guys take on this challenge. Thanks for sharing!
Good morning! Such a cinematic experience! The narrator - OMG! Good ol' American style! ;D Engaging - I even forgot to water my plants. Educational - learned about the world and competition and some motorcycling tips! Oh, I do remember the pressure at my first Gymkhana competition... I feel you. Thank you guys for sharing! Thank you, team RevZilla for your work! Cheers to Buda, Texas for holding such an important motorclycle event! Have a great day everyone!
So glad y'all have a home at RevZilla. Keep it up.
How about a sequel sending the boys to ride with the Japanese motorcycle police? Also absolutely amazing skills!
oh my! i got nervous just watching this...very impresive job otherwise guys, and lots of respect for the police officers and donny.... how cool that guy seems to be is amaizing by it self..... very well deserved the time to watch this "Long" episode
This, for me, was one of your best videos. Very entertaining. Thank you!
Gotta feel for Ari’s struggle in this one - unless I’m mistaken he’s not particularly a cruiser guy while Zack on the other hand looked just about in his element bike wise. Great showing by both of them it seems though! Really had me nervous for them with every section
Memorizing the course has got to be tougher then handling the bike
This is some of the loveliest minutes I’ve seen on KZread. Thank you Ari and thank you Kershaw.
I got so much anxiety watching this but it was great to cheer you guys on. Huge respect for completing the course with such little time to prepare. Would’ve taken me double the time
