Police Involved: Things just got Serious (Chit Show)

Спорт

Memorial Weekend 2022 the boat ramp was on a level I've never seen it ! Today we have police officers searching for someone and eventually arrest two men after detaining them for more than 4 hours . Dramatic and also crazy cause the boat ramp was packed for Memorial Weekend. My name is Alfred Montaner Host of the Chit Show in Miami

It pretty doesn't matter where it is you boat in this country in the past decade or so. If you are a wise old school boater, you let the amateur, holiday weekend warrior boaters go do their crazy chit. Even more regular summer weekends get pretty crazy. Let them have the waters, especially, on the big holiday weekends. Going out the rest of the week is usually pretty chill.

Back in the 60s our crew could have given you a good Chit Show scene. Stratford-upon-Avon England had a big Shakespeare Exhibition on the banks of our little River Avon. Someone raided it one night and stole some of the exhibits. Next day, my group of friends and I were out downstream in our 18' inboard cabin-cruiser and found a giant 20' long polystyrene statue of Falstaff, a big fat character from one of Shakespeare's plays floating in the river. It was too big to get a rope round and boat-hooks would not hold it, so we breasted up alongside the poor chap and I stepped out onto his belly and held onto the handrails on top of the cabin. We slowly motored upstream like that to a boat club premises next to the exhibition venue, but it was too shallow for our little cruiser, so I had to climb back onto the catwalk and kicked Falstaff over to boat-club members who hauled him out for the Shakespeare people. The exhibition organisers didn't even have the decency to thank us.

Me too, from Alberta that is AND I lived in Victoria for 5 years. I have a buddy that still lives in Parksville. Over that time I worked on a fishing boat for a short while and in general, I got to watch how things happen around a marina or boat launch. But Miami looks like a completely different planet. For the most part all the people seem very nice but the whole atmosphere; The cool boats, the weather, the drama getting in and out of the water, and a bloody crocodile! It's fun to watch, in fact now that I've discovered this channel, it's hard to look away.

I didnt even bother going out to public spaces this weekend. You have captured many of the reasons why. I grown man lets a woman hang off the steps and pee while he just operates the boat with spinning props inches from her. How can people be so stupid??? This cant be real. Boats getting spun around in the docks, people getting arrested….its just not worth it here on long weekends or most weekends in the summer. I e been doing more weekend up North of Juno and Stuart and its nothing like this. People have brains and use them. At least we got to see that young lady do an excellent job of docking the boat. A ray of sunshine at Blackpoint…

Absolutely freaking insane thing to do. There is an almost two foot diameter meat cleaver spinning around at a few hundred rpm right next to her. If the cops had seen that, the boat driver would have gotten a nice big fat citation. If he had any beer in him, he'd been cited for Impaired Operation.

Just so ya know. I got a friend that works for fish and game as a undercover boater. And he just watches all day ,everyday . For people taking illegal fish and lobster. Fish and game has many people on the water doing this. Sometimes his surveilance is done of docks at public parks. And when it comes to snook, he’s followed people all the way home, before they get busted. They wait to bust you on purpose. So they can take your boat, your vehicle, and your house. If you own it and are not a renter. It ain’t worth it. They got too many under covers watching now.

On the ocean or in the middle of the lake, long-line tow is fine, but close quarters like the launch ramp, definitely want to side tow. The towing vessel's stern should be aft of the boat being towed and boats should be tied at three points. make sure the rudder of the boat being towed it steered straight and manned by someone should additional steering movement be needed. Also, boats in tow have the RIGHT OF WAY.

Twin inboard (or inboard/outboard) engines or triple outboards save the day. I would never go into big water with less than twins. Every boat I ever owned, except the very first a Wellcraft Scarab 23, had twin inboards or inboard outboards. My last 2 boats, a '89 Trojan 12 Meter International and a '92 Silverton 42 Convertible both had inboard engines, big block 454's in both boats. Even when I lost one side I was never stranded. With twins (or triple outboards) you lose one engine or transmission, you have a backup to get you home, albeit slowly. A generator also is very helpful if you do get stranded, you have house power for battery chargers, pumps, 2-way radios, A/C everything you'd need. Both of my boats also had a trolling motor and a dinghy on davits with a 9.9 hp outboard stowed in the cockpit. In a pinch even the dinghy will tow or help maneuver if you're in the alley with a bad crosswind and a vessel with a lot of profile that acts like a sail, pushing you sideways. Yes, you are absolutely correct, the 250$ for Towboat US is money well spent and peace of mind, as is the membership to Boat US. I never had to use it (the on-water towing) but knowing it was available made my time on the water less stressful. After I traded my Scarab 23 for a larger boat, I didn't need to launch at a ramp, I kept my boat in the water 9 months a year, then dry stored it on land the worst 3 months of winter, which gave me time to scrape and paint, wax, replace Zincs, dress the props, do maintenance to get the boat ready for the upcoming season. I did see my share of boat ramp excitement, the marina I belonged to had 4 ramps for 'weekenders'. We used to call the weekend guys who didn't know what they were doing and screamed at everyone around them "Captain Crunch'. Inevitably, they would crash into the dock, wreck the boat, or trailer, even dump the truck in the drink on a couple of occasions. Great entertainment for all the captains and their mates to watch, especially on holiday weekends, when you could tell this might be the only time of the year their boats or Jet Ski's would be in the water. The other 364 days were spent paying off all the damages. The best one I ever saw was a doctor with a new 46-foot Sea Ray Sundancer Express that cut between 2 tow vehicles with a sand barge between them. The Sea Ray refused to acknowledge the tow boats, or didn't see them and before he knew it, both engines had 4" thick tow ropes wrapped up in both inboard shafts and props. The force was so great it pulled the shafts and struts from the bottom of the boat and damn near sunk it. The pumps and Towboat US kept it afloat then towed the boat back to the dock. The Doctor had some serious tickets to pay, plus damages to the barge, the tow boats, towing ropes, equipment, and so on. He did 100K$ in damage to that brand new 500,000$ boat. It was a year and a half before it was repaired. The Doctor sold the boat not long after, I don't think his wife wanted to go out on it again, and TBQH, he was pretty embarrassed. Everyone on the river knew who he was and what the story was. This is why people with a lot of money and a brand new big first boat with ZERO experience on water, are a danger to themselves and others around them. It should be required for any new boater to take a mandatory 50-hour boating and operating course then solo in similar size vessel to the one they intend to own in same way new drivers require drivers-ed. minimum operating hours under supervision with a restricted permit before being given a driving license. This would ensure the owners are at the very least semi competent behind the helm. It would help save lives, prevent injuries, expensive property damage, and vessel insurance claims.

Alfred, I think you have the best channel on KZread. I just came across it the other day when I watched one of your fishermen Joe videos...shout out to fisherman Joe because I subscribe to his channel too. the thing is that I can do your content and it gives me a break in the monotony of life. I feel like I'm so busy all the time I don't even have time to go enjoy watching boats and Haulover inlet I lived in Miami. I just want to say thanks brother and keep the content coming. let me know when you decide to present CHIT Show merch. I will buy a shirt or a hoodie.
