Do you think Tesla should fear Polestar? Would you choose this one over Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model X?

No competition. Polestar is far superior to Tesla. Pity it is manufactured in China and not locally manufactured in major countries that it will be available?

@@donoakes85 P3 will be made in Charleston, SC, by 2025 at the latest. But Teslas will sell better because most of them (Model 3, Y, etc.) will get the federal tax credit. And Polestar's copycat attempt at interior screens will fail (just as Teslas will start to lose their grip on top EV maker as they continue to flaunt the masses by making their interiors look like video-game consoles instead of real cars).

Polestar 3 is not an SUV. It's a lifted wagon like the Volvo Cross Country wagon (in fact, the height of the roof is nearly identical to that of the V70 Cross Country wagon. Polestar 3 looks great on the outside, but it's going to fail for these reasons: (1) interior instrument panel and infotainment screen are too Tesla-esque and Mach-E-esque; most people don't want this in their cars (they want physical buttons/dials for audio and climate; they don't wanna be fiddling with a touchscreen while driving, which should be banned anyway by government regulators as akin to texting & driving; and they want nice instrument panels laid into the dashboard -- not cheap-looking like this -- and they want infotainment screens nicely laid in, preferably horizontally, to the dashboard and not looking like a cheap iPad glued to the dashboard); (2) the wheels are too big and expensive (leading to worse ride quality, unnecessary higher expense up front and in replacing them, and worse driving range); (3) glass roofs really need to go, in favor of all-metal roofs (they're more expensive, heavier, hard to keep clean, prone to cracking/breaking due to falling debris and just general stress on the roof, and they're less safe in case of an accident rollover); (4) lack of a spare wheel/tire is a horrible trend; and (5) overall cost keeps it outside of the US federal tax credit (changing items 2 and 3, and not putting in an expensive audio-speaker system, can easily get the MSRP down into federal-tax-credit range). Volvo and Polestar are making a huge mistake in emulating Tesla with their interiors, and it will backfire for them; the masses don't want to feel like they're riding a video game -- they want tried-and-tested interiors with standard buttons/dials that can be used via memory touch while driving. And while Polestar will make the P3 in Charleston, SC, it's a moot point if it can't get the federal tax credit; we're talking a $10k-$15k difference if Polestar would get rid of the bloaty, gaudy, unsafe/unnecessary things I noted above and get the car into the federal-tax-credit range; without doing that, they won't sell many of these. I'd take a Macan BEV costing about the same price any day over this, even though the P3 will look better on the outside; the Macan will be better than the P3 in almost every other way and will surely come with optional 19-inch or 20-inch wheels, plus buttons (even if touch/haptic) outside of the touchscreen).

Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful analysis of the Polestar 3. I agree that the term 'SUV' seems to be increasingly broad, often encompassing vehicles like the Polestar 3 that might more traditionally be classified as wagons. This 'washing out' of the term 'SUV' is indeed noticeable in the industry. Regarding your concerns, you bring up several valid points about the interior design, wheel size, glass roofs, lack of a spare tire, and overall cost of the Polestar 3. These are aspects that clearly matter to many consumers, and your perspective helps highlight the diverse preferences in the market. It's interesting to note the trend towards minimalistic, screen-centric interiors in many modern vehicles, echoing designs popularized by brands like Tesla. While this style certainly has its critics, it also has its fans, suggesting a divide in consumer preferences. The debate over physical buttons versus touchscreen interfaces is particularly relevant in terms of usability and safety. Your points about the practicality issues with large wheels, glass roofs, and the absence of a spare tire are well-taken. These design choices often reflect a trade-off between aesthetics, cost, and functionality. Regarding the federal tax credit eligibility, this is a critical factor for many buyers and could indeed influence the vehicle's market success. Automakers are increasingly having to balance design and feature decisions with such financial considerations. However, it might be worth noting that consumer preferences can be quite diverse. While some may prefer a more traditional, button-laden interior and smaller wheels, others might be drawn to the modern, minimalist approach and larger wheel designs. The success of these designs can vary significantly across different markets and demographics. Lastly, your comparison with a potential Macan BEV is intriguing. It highlights the increasing competition in the electric vehicle market and the variety of choices that consumers will have, each with its unique set of features and design philosophies. Again, thank you for your insightful comment. It's discussions like these that enrich our understanding of the evolving automotive landscape.

@@itselectricvideos Thank you for your detailed, understanding, kind reply. Yes, I understand that there are diverse tastes in automobiles (and everything else in the world). But things like safety should not be diverse. Touchscreens should simply be banned as something usable (via touching, to change things while driving) by regulators, since automakers are incapable of doing the right thing, safety-wise, on their own. That's my point. Whether we like the *appearance* of interiors of Teslas/Polestars/Volvos or not, it's a simple fact that touchscreens are unsafe to be fiddling with while driving (just like smartphones are), that glass roofs are less safe and less practical than are all-metal roofs, and that larger wheels are less safe than are smaller wheels (smaller sidewalls make for higher propensity for blow-outs while driving). Add in the fact that we are talking about BEVs here, and things like large wheels and glass roofs reduce the range of these vehicles., not to mention increasing the MSRP of these vehicles. If Polestar put the interior instrument panel and horizontal inlaid touchscreen of Porsche's BEVs into the Polestar 3, I'd buy it in a second! (And don't get me going about the Polestar 4, being shown off now, which has no rear window at all!)

@@itselectricvideos Oh, and I don't mean to suggest having a "button-laden interior", as you wrote. One can have a minimalistic amount of buttons/switches for things like climate control -- things that the driver needs to use frequently (and often many times) in a single drive, on a regular basis, where he/she shouldn't be forced to spending lots of times going through sub-menus in a computer screen to do something that can be done without even looking at physical switches. We already see a huge proliferation/expansion of controls onto the steering wheel via buttons/dials there, so what's the difference?
