The Polestar 2 is an EV that's been fundamentally improved in this updated form. Jonathan Crouch drives it.
You might think this updated Polestar 2, this Swedish EV brand's most important model, looks hardly different from the original. Much though has changed. As well as being a little smarter to look at, it's better to drive, charges quicker and goes much further on energy from its more advanced battery packs. As before, it's a high quality sporting mid-sized EV, a rare and rather unique five-door hatch with quality, handling and battery technology all benchmarked against the best that the premium segment competition can offer.

An excellent and detailed review, thank you. You really need to get more views on this as it's I think the best I've seen. I bought a new 2022 Long Range Dual Motor with Plus and Premium packages and leather seats and have been enjoying my first EV now for eighteen months. The car I, sadly, had to sell in order to be able to afford my new Polestar was a 2011 Mazda MX-5 GT with the power retractable hard top which I bought from new eleven years ago. Of course as far as handling and sheer driving joy, nothing within my price range compares with the MX-5 but I found the Polestar to have some similar driving characteristics to my beloved Mazda: the cockpit feel (fits like a glove) , the way the car plants itself when cornering, the superb OPD throttle control (versus the magnificent gearbox of the Miata), the firm steering feel, although obviously not as delightfully mechanically 'connected' as in the Mazda, and the firmness of the suspension giving you feedback from the road surface (although in the heavy Polestar just make sure you avoid the potholes should you live somewhere like California as I do destroying one of my tyres). I test drove a Tesla Model 3 and a BMW i4 eDrive 40 before choosing the Polestar and there is really no comparison as far as the Polestar being a far better driver's car. Also, my old MX-5 had a solid build quality with absolutely no rattles or squeaks in eleven years of throwing it around backroad bends and generally semi-aggresive driving. Likewise the Polestar just feels solid and safe like my Volvo. The doors close with a satisfying clunk and the build quality and ergonomics are far above that of the Tesla in my opinion. All in all, as you can tell, I am very satisfied with my Polestar 2!

A well detailed review that gets a little repetitive after a while. Some editing might make for more views. As for the car, I've reserved mine and we're quite excited to replace our 2012 S60 with this new age vehicle. It's scary how similar this is to our older Volvo .. just an EV version with lots of class and comfort. We love the ventilated seats so the leather is well worth it.

Reminds me of the Triumph 1300 to Triumph Toledo with the drive swap.

Polestar is a quality vehicle. It’s not for me, though, because I’m getting a small camper. It’s a Vauxhall Combo Life Electric with the Wheelhome Vikenze III camper conversion.

Something is wrong with the image quality of your video - max resolution is 1080p, but it looks like 480i (interlaced, jagged) or something?

I don't wish to appear rude, but is the reviewer particularly short? I'm sure the cars he stands next to appear to be much taller than they are.

The car is 148 cm, so a bit lower than most EV. Model 3 is 144 cm

If the door sills weren't so high, this interior would be excellent. It's just very claustrophobic

Dont think its smarter to look at. Only change is the ugly cover now over the grille that makes it look odd and dull at the front end.

I don't know why anyone would knowingly order a car designed to get us away from the oil industry upholstered in a by product from the oil industry laughingly referred to as "vegan". If this was all that Polestar offered I wouldn't even consider them. It is after all a massive con in my opinion to keep plastic use going by the petrochemical industry fearing a loss of revenue from evs. I'll be sticking with leather.

Huh? You don't even make sense. The seats are made of renewable vinyl and recycled polyester textile. You do understand that's RECYCLEABLE AND REUSED right? Why would you prefer murdering animals just so you feel good about yourself?

Have you been in a Tesla, with its unpleasant "vegan" seats and steering wheel? At least the Polestar feels like a car that happens to be electric, and pretty well designed.

@@PierreDybman oh I agree the polestar is undoubtedly better designed and on paper they offer Nappa leather but unfortunately in the UK it's not currently available. At the sake of repeating myself just Google is pet plastic harmful to my health. I've just looked on Auto trader you can get a 24 Volvo T8 recharge with less than 2k miles for the same money with no polyethylene terephtalate interior for the same money so I know where I'll be spending my money.

It’s a middle class car. It’s certainly not for everybody, and even more certainly not for me!!
