Polaris Sportsman starter bendix replacement

Replacing the starter bendix in a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO. The atv has approximately 4800 miles and the bendix was basically worn out.

    Awesome video man. My pull start all of a sudden seized on me, opened it up and the pull start assembly broke, in the meantime, I looked at the bendix and realized that the teeth were completely worn down! Sounded a lot like 0:20. Thanks again.

    thanks for the vid, the flywheel in 700, you have too taken off for sure if you want take apart the bendix.

    My starter is bad. I’ve got the replacement and a new bendix I got with it. It looks like the starter comes out the other side. Would it be easier to install the starter from the other side with that cover and bendix our or does it need to be in place in order to put the new starter in? Just trying to save myself some work as other videos show the starter being a bit of a pain to get the bolts started and stuff

    Put a new starter in mine and still doesn’t start; must be the bendix .. your video was very helpful... thanks for sharing...

    i put a new bendix on mine and you still cant start it as soon as it fires starter revs up old and new drives do the same thing any idea's

    Hi was wondering i just checked mine as it's making a lot of noise , new one ordered do you put any agl or oil in the case to lube the gears?

    Tazzharm No I didn't. Mine was noisy before changing also and I found that the bushings that hold the bendix were worn causing the noise.

    I can't say for sure on a 700...500's do not need to be taken off.

    canthat bad bendix cause the pull start from not retracting ?

    No, the bendix is only related to the electric start. Check out your recoil assembly.

    @@mlevi512 I just changed it out with a new one everything moves freely I did have water get inside the cover I got to clean that

    Probably not a 5/16, more like 8mm...

    5/16 and 8mm are interchangable, onle a few thousands difference

    @@acutt5512 I did on mine. They had a slight amount of play and with just a touch of grease they felt better.

    Have any one removed the bushings for the bendix and if so how did you achieve that to install new ones
