RE: the two bolts that hold the lower control arm to the bearing carrier……. Don’t skip the blue lok tite. In fact if you follow the Polaris repair manual it says they are “single use” bolts and to use new bolts. I did not realize this when I did mine on a 2004 Sportsman 700. After less than 300 miles the bolt toward the front on both sides started to come out. Luckily it could not come out the whole way because it is trapped by the wheel rim. If the tread is not damaged on the original bolt you can probably reuse it ….. but definitely use the blue loktite…….. and the torque spec is 30 ft lbs if anyone is interested 😅

Great video. I purchased a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 400 with 78hrs and 60miles on it. I began doing a routine service on it, but when I started greasing the front control arm and and rear bushings, the grease started pushing out broken pieces of bushing. I guess age not wear has done them in. I was shocked. The ATV looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor and it is going to require complete bushing replacements.

At least it's an easy and cheap job. I also have a video of doing the front bushings. Good luck.

Reading some bad reviews on some of the bushing kits that are just plastic. Have you had experience with different kits? If going to do the work, would the OEM kit be the best option. Found a complete kit for $150.00. @@canamsledder

Great video, would have been a good idea to check your zerk fittings and and wipe down all your parts with grease so they don’t rust and keep it greased with those zerk fittings 👍🏻

I didn’t use the plastic kit junk after seeing how the bushing wore out. Instead I replaced them with garden hose that fit perfectly and want crumble up like the plastic stuff. I will see how it holds up to wear.

Was able to change out all the A-arm bushings both upper and lower without removing the axles on my 05 Sportsman 500. A bit of extra time and patience twisting and moving the A- arm assembly around in order to carefully slide the bolt heads past the CV boot without tearing or damaging them.

Sorry, just saw this now. If one axle is stuck, try pulling the other side out. If the other side comes out you can use a hammer and punch to get the stuck side out. Worth a try!

When reinstalling the lower A-arm bolts, could you put them in backwards with the nut on the axle side? Or is this frowned upon? This might allow you to not remove the axles next time the bushings need replaced.

I don't see a problem with doing that. Probably should have been done like that from the factory.
