Intake valve clearance is commonly found to be tight. It causes hard starting. When choosing shims try to stay exact or on wider end of spec. They intake valves tend to tighten up over time. Also you might find that temporarily installing tensioner before rotating engine to install 2nd cam bolts will prevent the timing chain from jumping time. Great video!

Ok so go the timing down fine... double checked it gave it a good couple manual rotations. Started the engine. Tock tick tick tick tick. Same damn sound. Pulled the valve cover. Checked clearances. Exhaust 010 010 008 008. Timing chain side Intake 000 000 000 000. Timing chain side They are out of spec on exhaust. Is that the tick tick tick?

@@timwise1758 most times a dealer will swap you, mine did. Otherwise you can order a complete kit that has many sizes online.

Are all these steps the same for a Ranger 900 xp?

If anyone can tell me what those three Allen key bolts right next to pto shaft are used for it would be appreciated. I can not find anything online. And also does a 2014 rzr 900 have some kind of oil pressure release?

Hey i keep going back and forth with this video... I purchased a 2012 rzr 900 xp that sounded like it had chain slap.. I suspect the stock tensioner took an early retirement. I purchased and alba racing tensioner... I put it in and still had the slap.(everything was top dead center). SO... I took the cams completely out and started from scratch watching your video... top dead center is easy.. Getting the cams aligned with the slots and home fashioned tool to keep them straightis fine... i run into this issue.. When I take the rear alignment tool for the slots out.. the intake cams jumps forward causing the chain to slip gears... it also jumps out of the alignment that i just worked so hard to get... what am i doing wrong? I have watched this video of you doing the timing at least 15 times... I just can not see where I am making my mistake..

Did you see that I released the tension with a wrench on the intake cam? I'm guessing that might be the issue. -Charles

The top and bottom come as a pair. Looks like the case halves aren't shipping right now. You might have to keep an eye out for something used or see if a machine shop can repair yours.

You can find the Polaris OEM parts finder here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/oem-parts/Polaris Just enter your machines year and model, then go to the engine, crankcase schematic.

It would have been wise to turn the engine after torque of lower half.

Welp. Ive decided buying a new motor would be cheaper. From factory piston arms were not torqued down all the way to the crank.

Was the motor from Rev6? Cause i heard they were junk. Plus after talking with one of there techs, they do a shitty job. They reuse all TTY bolts
