Polaris - Harbinger

Harbinger by Polaris
From the album 'Fatalism', out now!
Purchase, Stream at: bfan.link/fata...
I’m staring through the static
I’m sensing that we stand on unstable ground
My words fail me now
Show me what my eyes won’t see
Show me what my mind won’t believe
I’m struggling to peer through the fog
Do we all have to suffer to see we were born to bleed?
I’m picking up the loose ends
I’m digging to the roots through the soil
To see what is there for me
Tell me where the heartsick go
Tell me why we all still follow
I’m starting to see through it all
Do we all have to suffer to see we were born to bleed?
Knowing well we’re soon to be
Just a feast for the crows to dine on
Just a feast for the crows
I’m staring down the barrel
I’m cutting to the marrow, right through the bones
Of a haven I once called home
Take me where the grass won’t grow
Take me where the trees are hollow
I’ve been digging to the roots of all that I know
But it’s still not enough to believe in the words we preach
(We burned every page of the book)
If we all turn our backs to the storm when the walls are breached
(And I still cannot bear to look)
When our burdens pull us over the edge
We’ll fall fast enough to feel our lungs give out
As we float through the static and sound
Dead eyes stare through the veil
Pulse weakens, words fail me now
Except to say we’re a lost cause

This is probably my favorite song off the album. The last half of this song is probably my favorite section of Polaris’s discography.

Adding that bit of grit into the cleans is such a great choice. It's definitely an opener, but it absolutely flies by. 'I'm staring down the barrel, cutting through the marrow, right through the bones' the flow of the lyrics throughout the album are incredible, but this song starts at 10 ❤️

I love how the opening tracks get better each release. Lucid was out the gate running, while Pray for Rain and Harbinger slowly build up then bang.

The phrasing in the cleans is familiar yet not, wondrous yet restrained. How an album written with could be so mournful yet entirely celebratory is anyone's good guess. In any other words, this album is the most complete and resplendent in your catalogue, and a standout across music this year. Triumph never sounded so bittersweet.

From the second single on, just absolutely captivating. There's usually 4-5 songs I run through on an album, this shit is 9-10 every single time.
