You missed one of the high points of Pokemon GO: it gets people to be social. Just today I was running around town (something I've never done in the first place) with some people I had just met catching Pokemon together and going over strats and tips. We talked like old friends and exchanged information and had an amazing time together, even if we weren't being social through the app itself. Pokemon GO is bringing people together, and I think that's honestly one of the most powerful aspects of the game. Even if it's buggy, even if the servers drop, even if it lacks features, it has given people a way to make friends through a common desire to explore and catch Pokemon. Bringing people together has always been at the heart of Pokemon and for the first time in possibly forever, we are seeing it do that on a massive scale. As someone who has been a dedicated fan since Gen 1, this makes me so happy at times that I think I might cry.

This is what they call a soft release of Pokemon GO, so its literally straight out of Beta testing. Niantic has even stated that they will add more features as time goes on, but for right now even the servers are overloaded and continue to be so even as they add more servers. The game was just way more popular than Niantic prepared for and I imagine they will address more of the bugs as they get their servers running well and release it world wide.

My work is super isolated. So, there aren't any pokestops near it. That is unfortunate since I know folks live around there. The closest one is a couple miles away. Which has gotta suck.

I hope they update on how you catch a pokemon. I miss the time when you battle wild pokemon with your starter pokemon and weaken them before you can catch it. also the battle system needs to be greatly improved. it's a little bit linear.

+Angelo Acosta I have never been able to get it to vibrate for me. I have the vibrate settings on both my phone and the app turned on. I leave the game running and simply turn it upside down inside my pocket... Complete silence. Walked nearly 2 miles and no notification.

The point is to make a game that makes fat ass Americans move.... So... it's doing exactly that. ZERO flaws. :D

This is awesome. Pokemon transcends generations. When I go to one of the Pokestops sometimes I'll stay and watch who comes by. You see some kids, some adults driving up or riding their bike to it, etc. All ages are enjoying this right now. Just saw a guy that was 35ish riding his bike 1 handed so he could keep a watch on the app. I love this.

It isn't. There was a game that came out in 2003, named "Boktai". Your weapon was solar powered, so you had to take your gameboy outside.

for the battery issue, all you have to do is turn on battery saver and then turn your phone upside down, you'll know it is working if when you turn your phone upside down it goes to a black screen and the pokemon go logo is dim on it, while in this state you can still be notified when pokemon pop up by your phone doing the vibration, along with your steps being counted for your eggs. Hope this helps people with the battery problem.

I hope they add a feature where you can battle another trainer right next to you on the spot by sending them a request maybe? or even by eye contact. idk it would just be awesome to battle someone you meet and your friends

While the game itself is pretty basic and without the Pokemon name attached, would likely go unnoticed, what is amazing about it is what it has done. I have been playing this since it was released, and since then I have seen crowds of people playing this in multiple areas throughout the city where I live. I've actually had strangers come up and ask what was going on, since they noticed people were looking down at their phones more than usual. I've met more new people over this game than I have in probably the last couple years. I don't think I have ever seen a population of people this size come outside into the real world and participate in a common activity like this in my entire life. Even if the game itself is bare bones, buggy, and has a lot that can and should be done with it, the fact that people everywhere are engaged in the game, and engaged as a community, makes this worthwhile and fun.

You must imagine how huge the game is with all the maps worldwide all the streets and setting the pokemon basically where they belong to like water type near water, or electro pokemon in larger cities it's really hard work doing that ofc nintendo will do patche and will fix the most common bugs when the game will release like the laggard when you try to send the pokemon to the professor

David Schwartz Doubtful. It's possible, but I wouldn't expect to get any kind of combat similar to the games. I'm not sure what gameplay tweaks they have planned, but what we see here is probably the core of what we'll get, though I am sure we'll be seeing more and more interactive functions in the future.

At first, I wasn't too big on this app and didn't think it would be that popular. Now after seeing how popular this app REALLY is and the crazy things people do in order to catch certain Pokemon, I must say, I'm really impressed. Pokémon has managed to connect alot of people out there in the world and encourages them to explore out in the open world. If this game was released in Europe,Canada, and Japan, this app would be INSANELY POPULAR. Now no doubt in my mind that later on, they'll have to update this by releasing later Gens of pokemon, such as ones in Johto,Hoenn,Sinnoh,Unova,Kalos. It just makes sense in the developer's eyes. The more pokemon there are, the more popular this game will be...

a before you buy for Go! is pretty redundant, but i REALLY hope you make a BYB about the wristband coming out soon, i dont know what the wristband entails or how it acually works and i would def thumbs up an informative GoBand vid.

I've run out of poke balls and I'm not yet strong enough to take over gyms so I'm kind of at a stand still as there's very little poke stops in my town and it glitches when I try to go to some... But when it works it's so fun

Went outside to play this for the first time today. Met up with over 50 other random trainers in front of a convenience store since it was a Pokemon center.

Give it some time. There'll be trading, breeding, updated combat system, customizable gyms, etc. The games pretty much like it was in beta.

+Gulam you actually do. I was walking on a trail and i find a bunch of normal pokemon. As soon as i hit the beach, i start finding water type pokemon. I found polywag, parasect, magikarp and more.

Ok, so I'm just going to break down the game I thought they were going to make instead of this weird thing: It would be an app that runs in the background, using the built in pedometer to count your steps and GPS to locate you. The map would be 2D, and your avatars face would indicate where exactly you are (like a nicer looking Google maps). As you walk along, the app notifies you when you have stumbled across a Pokemon, and asks if you would like to battle it and try to catch it. You can also be actively using the app, tapping your avatar on the map, sending out a shock-wave, and seeing if any Pokemon are near you (sort of like the system in ORAS, but not for seeking out specific Pokemon). The map indicates to you the types of Pokemon that can be caught in certain areas for a given day; perhaps one day, you can step outside your house and find Ground types from Kalos, but, on the next day, now you can catch Flying types from Johto. This encourages exploration while allowing people who don't want to roam the streets looking like an idiot to still catch a diverse set of Pokemon and form a decent team. In addition, the more you walk, the higher your chance of encountering a rare Pokemon and successfully catching Pokemon increases linearly (as well as the rate at which shinnies appear, though this may be too much); so, someone who has just finished a 2 mile run will have a much better chance of finding and snagging a Bagon then his couch potato friend. This encourages activity and exploration, and makes it a substantially different from console titles. Pokemon centers and shops would be located in a menu, where you would receive small, daily boosters and a set number of trips to the nurse that you can make in a day. If you want more items, you'll either need to walk to gain currency, wait, or pay up. Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have Honey be an item you can purchased, allowing for instant encounters upon use (a nice nod to people who might just want to catch some Pokemon in their living room, and a great opportunity to get some money from hardcore gamers). And, finally, a Pokemon Trading Market, where you can buy and sell Pokemon, I think would also be a great addition; players looking to buy some Honey to encounter a Ice type near them would sell a few of their Weedles in order to afford it; or, vice-versa, may simply try and buy that rare Pokemon they are looking for. Here is the free-to-play aspect of the game, which I know people hate, but developers gotta make a living. Besides, it helps set the app apart from the game. Pokemon gyms could be set up by anyone, anywhere; just hit a button, and your gym is set up, ready for challengers. When someone walks up to your gym, they can ask to battle your team (which will be operated by a bot); if you happen to be there, however, the challenger will battle you! Whoever wins the battle gets a reward (paid for by the app, of course). If you win a lot of battles, people in your town are alerted that a strong trainer has started a gym at X location, and is putting up a good challenge (i.e. the more battles your team wins, the higher your prestige goes). People who put gyms in high traffic areas and have built up a good team stand to earn a lot of in-game currency this way. Battles can also be initiated between trainers who are nearby via an internet connection. And, perhaps most importantly, all battles, trading, and breeding mechanics would be pulled straight from the original games. Don't fix what ain't broke. Those are just my thoughts though. I think the developers went more for the whole "Look, Pokemon in the real world!!!", instead of making something that allows your daily routine to become part of the Pokemon world.

There is a spot down the street from me in another neighborhood with 4 pokestops all within range of each other. Someone made it rain. When I got there, there were like, 25+ people scattered around this tiny ass park playing pokemans. They were ALL my age (mid-20s to mid-30s). Then again, it was at night... Like, 3 hours ago.

As a hint to save battery life and to not use cellular data: turn your GPS accuracy to something else than high.

I met 4 guys last night and walked from downtown Toronto all the way past Cherry street, Just cause mons kept showing up and we were just having a fun time chatting. The game is epic social, Throw down a lure (item that summons PKMN to a portal) and watch as it summons actual PKMN GO players to your area. Also wiping out gyms alone at night feels epic when you know the 6 guys that held the gym are gonna be like WHAAAA when they check back and see just one of your mons sitting on their work.

It's just an elaborate way to get people to exercise, lol.

You can't battle friends or just people in general, you can't trade, there are no events such as the times square one in the trailer, you can't take out your pokemon. You can literally only catch pokemon and run a gym. I count the trailer as false advertising. I am severely underwhelmed and disappointed in how Pokémon Go turned out.

Thanks for the video. I'm in Canada, I had friends trying to download it as APK files and changing GPS stats and what not but I think after seeing this video I'll just sit back and wait til it comes to Canada lol maybe there will be less bugs and glitches by then.I don't know about anyone else, but I still have all my Pokemon cards (mostly first gen.) I grew up on my Gameboy playing Pokemon. I'm hoping with the future updates and everything that this is going to become more like that with a social aspect and more battling like mentioned in the video. I hope they'll have some sort of digital/virtual gym or trainer challenges for people who don't live in cities or those without friends nearby to battle, or people who don't have the time to be gym leaders and hold their places lol ...or maybe I didn't understand how that part worked but whatever, I will when it comes to Canada.

They should add a feature you can battle random people with NFC you connect your phones, pick a Pokémon with a certain level and battle!

Pretty much agree with everything you said. Love the idea of it, I actually did find a park near me that i would have never otherwise, but it isnt pokemon, its just collecting stuff. We walked around and found a carful of people all playing it near a Pokestop, and i was so bummed that we couldnt challenge them or something (though that might be because I haven't levelled up enough yet) - but you should definitely be able to challenge other people, and they should definitely introduce the classic Pokemon fighting style. The tactics you needed to know and use is what makes Pokemon battles so darn fun in the first place.

if you own a gym you can earn items like the gold coins and potions! you can get some every few hours and you get more if you own more gyms!

CheeseHead That's strange, I assume you live somewhere remote? One easy way to find pokestops would be to make an account for the game "Ingress." It's on the app store and is also made by Niantic. Once you download the game and make an account you no longer need the game (Unless you want to play it) . With the account, google search for Ingress Intel map, go to Ingress.com/intel and sign in with your ingress account. This website will give you a world map of all the portal location in Ingress, and almost all the portal locations are also pokestops. You can use it to find out where there's a cluster of several pokestops all close together, and since they recharge every 5 minutes going out there and hanging around the area for a while will get you a lot of items (especially pokeballs) really quickly.

I would think that this may be just the start of what we saw on as fantasy or cartoon in the past, I think that in a few years will be able to use something that looks like sunglasses that will be nano vr glasses and can thus get a better experience of this when the time comes ;)

Walking and standing by 5 minutes seems a good way to get robbed in my city

I like this because it's kind of like a scavenger hunt type of game. I like going to parks and water areas for this.

There was supposedly trainer battles outside gym in promotional vids and we need that. but because it's not turn based it is flawed because there's no way to tell when or how to dodge you just kill with higher cp and moves

Pokemon GO is a slow start here in Phx AZ. Not many want to go hunt Pokemon in 117 degree weather. lol Nothing but fire type here. Makes sense.

Ikr, I'm pretty new to the game, and haven't gotten a mode of transportation so I've just been wandering around my street and yard, and there was this bloody Abba that I wanted, and I was looking forever! Till I gave up and caught a Horsea Instead....

Omg at work so many people (coworkers and customers a like) are playing it all at once that we crash the server for the entire building quite often. There's a limit to how many people in an area can be on it all at once. You can get kicked off when someone logs in right before or right after or at the same time as you.

its like a pokemon safari (like the one in ruby, saphire emerald) with great and ultra balls and a giant risk game with 3 teams. I love it!
