Poke Salad

Poke Salad. I grew up eating it. Folks unfamiliar with what it looks like might think it's just another weed. It's a real spring treat. I pick tender leaves without stems or stalks because I don't like stems in my greens. I boil the poke salad rather than make "killed" or "wilted" poke salad. The season for poke salad is short-lived.
As a kid, I would smash the berries and make ink to draw with.
