That's ignorance and hypocrisy trying to win over wisdom and sincerity. The make up is the disguise of ourselves we do in front of people. Our "social self". We never show up who we really are. When you stop trying to please people all the time and start being honest with yourself, it's the time the joker on you will try to take back control, and you have to be strong not to let it.

Scrabbling to maintain his existence before he’s left behind. He’s a self-aware facade facing his own mortality and doing everything in his dwindled power to hold on. From begging, to vainly trying to hold back the reality and finally breaking down in despair before he’s washed away. Ironic really considering that this character used to be the king of the ball back in Daze.

I don't know why but when the Harlequin removed his make-up and changed to a sophisticated man, cheering his new and better self, it made me shed a tear. Choosing to be the better you, stand out in the crowd, in a world full of clowns and chaos. No words-- it's just beautiful and deep. Great work, PotF!

I _weep_ for the Harlequin. I might not enjoy being alive, but he clearly _loved_ it, and, well... now he's gone. He didn't want to go, and it wasn't his choice, it was the voice of conformity, of being a "good boy" and playing nice instead of being himself. Worst of all three worlds.

@Frank: Echoing your view here but I think audiences need to be more discerning and STOP tuning into their local terrestrial radio stations which have become notorious for featuring a narrow selection of music on repeat for the last 20 years (at least in the US). There are plenty of online radio stations that play music by Poets Of The Fall. In fact, a bunch of pop music fans (as opposed to fans of rock) have discovered the music of Poets Of The Fall on our online radio broadcast and have fallen in love with these guys. As for this album, we wish these guys had led with a radio edit of "Revelations" as opposed to "Requiem" (although it is a good song).

Facing and accepting yourself and learning to love that true person within you, which will make you strong and happy in the long term. This realization finally has a theme song! :D Much appreciated!

The clip is a bright mini-performance, a Buffoonery with a touch of tragedy: the main character, an actor, attempts to get rid of his insane character. The composition is powerful, a kind of whirlwind of passions and emotions that tear the hero apart. Harlequin's make-up mask has grown tightly to his face, Harlequin is no longer just a character, he has become part of his personality ("I've got this madman in my mind..." - Drama for Life), but claims to be more. Harlequin - or Alichino - is a demon who needs the whole soul entirely... Guys, a great song, an excellent clip! Мы вас любим!🎶💖

To those interested in the Tarot Cards, they're specifically the French version called tarot de Marseille. The first card is The Fool(ou le Mat), second is Death, third is The Magician(ou le Bateleur). Interestingly, The Fool is typically card 0, but in TDM has no number and Death, card 13, is also known as "Arcane sans nom" (arcana with no name). The Fool can mean the start of a new adventure, while Death can mean the end of something or rest/taking a break. The Magician means power, skillfulness, potential(meeting it?). Perhaps a reference to the fact that Clearview, Ultraviolet and Ghostlight are supposed to be a trilogy?

EDIT: I AM A NOVICE AND THE REST OF THIS COMMENT IS MISGUIDED. I left it here for context. The Magician represents earning power and meeting potential. The _Inverted_ Magician represents unearned power and squandered potential. On that note, never trust a Tarot reader that doesn't shuffle the deck in a way that allows the cards to be inverted.

@@chiffmonkey While I'm not a reader myself, I do know the interpretations of the cards he was given: The Fool (Either unnumbered or zero) represents a new beginning, often a leap of faith; The Fool travels to a new land, bringing with him only the clothes on his back. When reversed, it indicates it is something one should be hesitant about jumping into, as recklessness on this journey may end it early, it may also represent a lack of the faith needed to be successful in this new endeavor. Either way, the beginning of something is inevitable. Death (thirteen) Is the card that is often feared out of superstition (explaining his reaction), however, a reader will/should never try and predict deaths. Often this card refers to death in the sense of transformation; death of an old idea gives life to a new one, it can be difficult, unexpected, terrific or terrible. The main takeaway is that to attempt to avoid this change will only make the current issues at hand worse, which is what it's reversed form represents. It can mean that one is having trouble letting go of the past, death can haunt us all, but holding on to grief only prolongs the pain. The Magician (one) represents willpower, representing someone who has gained the skills and abilities needed to be successful in their endeavors. Often this means that one must use their will, focus, and intellect to achieve your goals as they present themselves. When reversed, it means a lack of that clarity, that someone can use your skill and ability for their own selfish desires, it is a caution to tread lightly around those who are cunning and deceiving, perhaps even that cunning person you need to watch out for is yourself. Do take that all with a grain of salt, as it is only my basic understanding of the cards, but I hope it's accurate enough to explain how the symbology of their music lines up with these three particular cards. I know I found it fascinating.

This is a requiem, for the harlequin The great pretender, crashing' down with style Here's to the fall of man, fame to dust To fortune, to sand The great surrender finally arrived [Chorus] This is how the requiem loves the harlequin Wake up, your chains are porcelain Like a phoenix from the ashes we will rise again This is what the requiem loves to hear you sing To the beat of your fool hеart hammering One more timе, we'll cry into the night again, woah [Post-Chorus] (Woah, woah!) (Woah, yeah!) (Woah, woah!) [Verse 2] This is a requiem for the comedian The one who used to deftly dodge in time You cut a sparkling gem, never heeding the warning Of the silver glint of knives in hungry eyes This is how the requiem loves the harlequin Wake up, your chains are porcelain Like a phoenix from the ashes we will rise again This is what the requiem loves to hear you sing To the beat of your fool heart hammering One more time, we'll cry into the night again, woah [Post-Chorus] (Woah, woah!) The three tarots at 3:49 follow the meaning of the song. If my tarot-reading knowledge is worth any salt, the three represent the past, the present and the future. The Fool represents innocence, new beginnings, hope and the such. It also means inexperience and naivety. Being green, with all the consequences that it entails. Death is not necessarily death as we know it: it can mean illness, separation, but also change. Like, radical change. Crisis, an end, failure also falls into the spectrum of meanings. The Magician stands to depict how one can be free to choose every direction, or needs to, even. The magician arcana is about talent, resources, being determined and the such. Many others can understand the lyrics' deeper meaning better than I do, and already explained so. They pertain to the struggle of letting go of something, or someone, that simply cannot fit in your life and go towards a new beginning. I did not happen to see any comments regarding the tarots, so I just thought about adding this to the pile. Great song, of course. The video, the acting, they are all icing on the cake. I myself am currently struggling with life choices and the dread of going nowhere, so this strikes a chord with me. I'm still the harlequin behind the mirror, trying to re-apply make-up that part of me wants to get rid of. Hope y'all fare better.

I love the theme of duality in this song. It's almost like they are going for symbolism related to how the band has evolved and changed over the years. A return and subsequent farewell to numbers like Carnival of Rust, Daze and Cradled In Love while also embracing whatever the future may bring. Regardless of the inherent meaning, this is another absolute banger of a song and I adore it!

The way they play with the tempo without losing their rhythm, the way the tempo in the choruses is deceptively slow and fast at the same time, that solo after the second chorus, that lyric. Poets of the fall have become so accomplished in understanding their creativity that they are better than themselves.

This masterpiece is so impeccably ambiguous and at the same time explicit about a variety of situations/internal as well as interpersonal dynamics. It always blows my mind and engages my emotions when at different stages of life I listen to it and derive something completely new meaning and interpretation. This is what poetry is meant to be like! Poets of The Fall are the epitome of the fulfilling art, the pinnacle of it, in so many ways! Please continue creating more masterpieces. For we need your creativity, inspiration, wisdom, and gentle (and sometimes sudden shredding) touch of our hearts. ❤

What an excellent song. Love this band! Poets of the Fall is such an artistic and creative band, yet their compositions are so precise and tight. I remember being a casual fan about ten years ago, but with each song my admiration of them continues to grow. Aside from the great music, it's got to be said that not many bands can take a great song and somehow make it better after the listener becomes a viewer. In other words, when I listen to Poets of the Fall, the masterpieces that are their music videos play in my mind which makes the listening experience even more intriguing. Then of course, there's the fact that these videos and characters are linked which becomes an even more intriguing and inspiring experience.

I have no clue if this is on purpose or not but I like how in a round about way, this song can be linked to Late Goodbye. In the Chorus of Late Goodbye, the singer sings "And we keep driving into the night..." While here in Requiem for My Harlequin he sings "One more time we'll cry into the night again." Like what I said, it could be just a coincidence, but I like the idea of the songs being connected.
