I'm going to write this in English because I still can't say this much in Russian but I have always been impressed with your knowledge of history and facts in the podcasts but I also imagined that as you produced them you had source material in front of you - like open books and maybe a lot of notes - because it was and is hard to imagine someone who A) Is so informed on so much history. B) Can fluidly express it in such a thoughtful and compete way. C) and also speaks so clearly that we intermediate language learners can understand. Now watching and seeing that you actually are able to do it basically "on the fly" (not needing to constantly check notes) and with almost no editing in the production I'm seriously in awe. Loved the video Max, I got alot more our of it as I have studied the subject and could anticipate your next word. I was rather proud of myself being in front for once instead of a hundred miles behind of you say!! I would love you to do a history on Dostoyevsky, Gogol, Tolstoy, Turgenev, Chekov etc as they were such phenomenal thinkers and writers. Their histories could tell alot more about the history of Russian life and how that impacted on Russian intellectual thinking that also lead to the Russian revolution. Of course a massively huge subject, but I have faith that you can simplify it so I can grasp it in my rudimentary Russian!!! Thankyou I always enjoy your subjects no matter what they are. 👍

I like it very much. Am re-learning russian language after having had little to no contact to it for 15 years, did not have the opportunity to learn it as a child more thoroughly, so I'm proud that I can now slightly read novels in russian language after a year. Just being exposed to the language constantly helps a lot. I don't even need to focus on it, I can listen to it in the background. Which is what I do. Listening to it while studying. Once in a while I pick up a word I've learnt in the past couple of days, so passively making progress. Am a german-russian, maybe you know these. Ethnic German repatriate. Came to Germany with 1/2 year of age.

Если возникает вопрос зачем знать о Ленине - то о Древней Греции и Римской империи знать выходит вообще ни к чему. А ведь на античном базисе Греции и Рима стоит вся современная европейская культура.

The best introduction to Lenin in English is "Three Who Made A Revolution" by the ex-Communist, Bertram Wolfe, written in the 1940s or 50s. It also introduces the reader to Stalin and Trotsky. It ends with Lenin's disillusionment in 1914 when the French and German socialists voted to support their governments in going to war with each other. A interesting fact is that Alexander Kerensky's father was very helpful to Lenin after Lenin's brother was executed. Lenin repaid the favor from overthrowing the younger Kerensky's government in 1917.

I SHARE with you тот неопределённый, так сказать, главное - независимый подход к этой теме.Что мне мешает, это то, что и для получения достаточно детальной информации надо обязательно тратить время (даже если в Сети всё происходит и можно вести очень быстро... Но это только сейчас, раньше такого не было!), и для понимания современных, теперешних главных вопросов всё приходится обернуться назад!...), к тому, вечный вопрос, каким источникам информации доверять? Словом, в конце предпочитаю заниматься своим изучение языков и мало заботиться о настоящем времени! Но понятно, что так можно лишь временно! Гнева, у меня достаточно много есть из-за своих личных дел, нет время обратить его на политические темы! Заметила некую разницу между твоим и Юлиным детством, м.б. разница вообще есть между мальчишками и девчонками! Затем, естественно много зависит от среды (от воспитания семьёй, от школы и учителей, от друзей...). Было очень приятно слушать из первых рук рассказ о реальной Русской жизни! Пожалуйста, расскажите ещё про ваше прожитое, опыт и приключения! Таким образом расстояние всё сокращается, ведь вы правы, мы все, люди, так или иначе, одинаковы!😊

Отличное представление о , Макс! 👍 Мне кажется, упомянутые тобой слова из цитаты Эйнштейна (правильно?) это самые верные, подходящие, уместные. Вряд ли найдёшь сегодня такого умного, образованного, идейного, зато и прагматического, человека (интеллигента), кто посвятил себя к улучшению общества, и даже на всемирном плане. Конечно он питался тогдашней авангардной литературой (утопическим социализмом, марксизмом), но на самом же деле тогда разве было иных решений главному вопросу (т.е. царизм как таковой и все остальные, с данным режимом, связанные, социальные вопросы)? Месть, не месть, кто как можно постичь самую правду? Кому достичь того, что в самом сердце человека, к тому долгое время спустя, когда, как уместно, в знак уважения к нему, он лежит, там где надо, в самом сердце России, так, как и долго был несомненно в сердце множества русских людей? Но скорее всего, трагическая смерть старшего брата лишь побуждала молодого Владю заинтересоваться тем, что привлекал внимание самого брата, и затем приводило к его казню. Оттуда, наверно, даже не считая, того, что он сам и его семья должны были терпеть,, он стал всё больше раскрыть глаза на окружающую действительность. Спасибо, Макс. Очень интересно. And I thought all along that Lenin passed away from major systemic complications (especially of the circulatory system) brought on by the advanced stages of syphilis ravaging his body.

I have a quick question if anyone might help. I hear Max say often 'смо́трите', but he pronouces it like 'смори́те'. Is that a different word or an alternative pronunciation? Thanks.

Lenin was one of the greatest minds in the history of our planet, who realised and understood how to liberate millions from the awful cycle of toil, starvation and exploitation. A true hero of Russia in that he provided a true Internationalist outlook and ideal for all nations of the world, not Nevsky or some outdated feudal or nationalist figure. Спасибо, Мах! Ленин жив!

Wow! Max, I am grateful for the work you do and the knowledge you share. It is extremely interesting to me because yesterday I was looking online wanting to know why Russia turned to communism in the first place. But you have given so much detail in this short video to give us a better understanding of who the man Lenin was. I believe our educational system in the United States has plenty of room for improvement because they do not teach deep and true American history and they most certainly do not teach about Russia. I firmly believe that our Universities within the USA are major contributors to the decline of morale, respect and love for the USA. I am looking forward to the next podcast! You are my teacher in Russia. Also, I have to slow down the speed of your videos so I don't miss anything. I am accustomed to the slower speed in which you talk when I slow the videos down, so if I were ever to met you in person I would be very confused 😆. 👍

As a 6 or 7-year-old kido in the last years of socialistic Czechoslovakia, I could never wrap my head around the fact, why we were told so many times at school this guy was very important. The thing is, I always thought he must have been lazy. Why? I was convinced the name "Lenin" came from the Slovak word "lenivý" (= лени́вый, lazy). And how can you have a personality or a role model at school who is lazy?! 😆😂 Lastly, I already knew at that time he said: Учиться, учиться, учиться! That had me even more perplexed! 🤣

Max very interesting, but I don't understand your point about the need to talk positive about Lenin ? Sure Lenin was a very interesting person, who was seduced by Marx, and at that time it was not illogical for Lenin to take the pragmatic choice he did. But he brought death, destruction and misery to your people, nothing positive. But that's probably the communistic side of you that is craving for some positivity regarding Lenin 😉. Anyway it's interesting to hear details regarding Lenin, it helps me a lot gaining Russian language skills. Looking forward to your next podcast, despite your naivity, comrade..

Если Ленин является хранителем совести человечества, то у нас большие проблемы

50 лет назад американские школьники прочитали «Трое, которые совершили революцию» и «Жизнь Ленина» Фишера. Не припомню особого внимания к казни брата. Важно понимать, что без Первой мировой войны Ленин не свергнул бы царя. Во-вторых, он преследовал не только монархистов, но и других революционеров. Блестящий, но безжалостный человек.

Я слышал, что Ленин даже не слушал музыку потому, что считал это потерей времени

Исторические Фигуры нельзя оценить - хороший или плохой с современных позиций. Всегда нужно брать контекст эпохи. Например был ли Наполеон 1 "хорошим" или "плохим" - или Иван Грозный ? Однозначных ответов нет и не может быть.В их эпохи любые правители в любой точке Европы действовали примерно теми же методами по факту, фактически.И наверное это ж не просто так происходило.Всему есть социально-экономические и политические причины.
