Poco F5: Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Performance (is REALLY Good)!

Ғылым және технология

TEAM SGG PATREON / somegadgetguy Poco F5 Review! This phone is a SCREAMER. Poco is a "flagship killer" brand, and usually we see a Poco use an OLDER premium SOC, but this new mid-range Snapdragon is a champ! This is going to be a HUGE bang for buck option. Let's take a look!

    If only Xiaomi puts USB3 with wired video output. The 7+ Gen 2 is a crazy powerful SoC for a midrange-grade phone. It performs almost similarly to 8+ Gen 1.

    I actually recently got this phone. I got the Redmi Note 12 Turbo variant with 1 tb of storage and 16 GB of RAM. Its been doing very well. I turned off 5G and flashed a different radio and had to root it to get it to work with Google Wallet but it was fun to get into that stuff again. China had the one with the most storage so this is the one I had to get to store all my flac files since I can finally go back to using wired headphones easily and reliably. I was forced to get this phone thanks to my Pixel 7a becoming unusable in Miami where I live. The pixel would constantly over-heat. It could not work on the highway so if I was going somewhere and it decided that Android Auto and Navigation was too much for it it'd shut down all radios and throttle while still cooking itself and I'd be stranded which forced me to break out my old LG V30 to get the job done. It'd also lose cell coverage in areas where the Chinese Redmi with the new radio image will have a better connection and won't drop signal. What? So it's faster than my pixel in everything I need it to do (CPU and GPU), far bigger screen, more fluid 120 hz screen, higher brightness (double), way more RAM, way more storage, runs cooler, has better reception outdoors (that's crazy) while being $138 cheaper...yeah, I'll do without the AI stuff and photography prowess (I don't take pictures that much unless its of documents) the Pixel offers for an operational phone any day. I'll be selling the Pixel 7a.

    Great video as always. It really feels like the "mid-tier" and "flagship" devices are so OP for a phone in terms of processing power. Really, this has probably been the case since 2020 imo. I think this would be a good time for OEMs to concentrate on software optimization, feature sets and just user experience in general (Samsung I'm looking at you! I ditched my RN9Pro for RN12Turbo (Poco F5). And honestly, I didnt regret it. The only concern i have at first is the lack of expansion storage, but since I purchased the 512GB Chinese variant and installed EU ROM later on, i guess it was just fine and works great, no cellular issues since our country does have similar bands on what China is using. There are strange issues though, if you select Color Schemes other than Vivid and Saturated, the screen display becomes not totally black when you display black color. There is some sort of backdrop.

    What about the Bluetooth sound quality, i use high end headphones and the sound quality is better on the Redmi note 9 pro in terms of clarity, cleaner sound with enough bass, the opposite with the poco f5, the sound is harsh and thin, with no bass at all, the volume control performance is good in the first half only, for bands that have a dirty sound like for example imagine dragons the experience is unpleasant in some songs, electronic music sounds better but still not as good as the Redmi.

    You forgot to mention that SD 7+ Gen2 comes with UFS 3.1, the first of that family. Which basically means it has a real HW interface to it's (NAND) storage and not a middle-man embedded-flash memory storage. Which means transfer rates of 1GB/s++, as opposed to maybe hundreds of megs per second on last gen mid-range SoCs.

    what many people don't understand, and i guess the marketing want them to believe, it's that on most phones the camera hardware don't differ so much you think. Even if yes, then the price difference of the parts is in the $20 range. They get the modules mostly from the same fab. Where the magic happen is the SOC. To see my point, just install one of the GCAM mods on the poco f5 and then compare this to a pixel phone, which is known for brutal pictures, driven by core integrated features their SOC has. The pictures will also look good on the poco, much better than with the original cam software, because des Snapdragon 7+ 2.gen is a mighty soc and can do most of the thing, much more expensive phones can do. The human eyes are not hard to trick anyway. The brutal reality you'll see if you use those Pictures for professional Work. Load this pictures into photoshop and compare the range of the spectrum with a picture, shot with a real camera and real lens. Then you will understand what the marketing is doing with you, making you buy a $1000 Phone, what makes no sense at all.

    @@akilbarboni4198 yeah, but keep in mind that I dont use my phone as a gameboy :) so the specs upgrade is not that noticeable, really. Still, I am happy with my new phone, just the price and the overheating thing are bummers. The battery life is incredible, tho.

    I was looking for a new phone to upgrade from my 7 year old Xiaomi mi Max and when I saw Poco F5 (Note 12 Turbo!) I thought Poco just read my mind, flat design, great display, thin bezels, awesome battery and Chipset, headphones jack. I don't take pictures with my phone that much and it's the last thing I look at when buying a phone. So it's safe to say this is built for someone like me. 🤣

    Watching on my Poco F5 now. Just got mine yesterday. Amazing performance for its price. 👌 If you're on a budget and yet you want to experience flagship performance this is a good choice. The display is nice. Though I have a bit of complain with its thermals especially if you are in warm temperatures rooms without ACs which I think is normal but nothing serious or alarmingly warm. The performance in games though is superb for mid range phones WOW! I'm satisfied as a casual gamer and use my phone more for surfing.

    Another thing that I quite don't understand about midrangers in the camera department: A flagship in 2019 would have a triple 12mp set of cameras there being a normal, ultrawide and telephoto Why midrangers 4 years after this still can't pack this kinda of camera setup? I'd rather have it than one 50/64/108/200mp main camera and the 5( sometimes 8)+2mp ultrawide set + macro

  • @AlexeyFilippenkoPlummet

    @AlexeyFilippenkoPlummet

    It's called marketing. If you had a decent ultrawide sensor on a midranger, what's the reason to pay much more for a flagship? Price-wise a 12 mp sensor is ultra cheap, but you just can't have it.

    The 7 gen 2 is essentially the 8 gen 1 but clocked lower. For most people, they won’t notice the difference between this phone and the f5 pro. I wish the pro at least replaced that macro camera with a zoom. Even if it’s not a good zoom, I can do much more with a crappy zoom camera using gcam port than a crappy macro

    It's insane how fast the F5 performs. It punches just below the SD8G2 while almost outperforming the SD8+G1 while maintaining generally good thermals. Yes, the camera and software sucks but at a quarter the price of flagships, the F5 is a no-brainer if you need top tier performance on a budget.
