This is where we talk tech. I've been a tech head since I was old enough to walk. No small feat as the first computer I ever used only ran DOS. Try explaining to kids today how to use something without a GUI. I've worked with DOE on mobile technology strategies, I've been a featured reviewer and columnist for several publications, and I've even played pundit on national and international news shows. I hope to share my experiences using consumer tech here on KZread with an audience just as passionate as I am.

S23 ultra dont have such a problem even at auto mode. Once you switch off auto macro, it will keep that. You can even turn off switch lens, depending on light situation, like zoom at night in auto mode will not switch lens. Manual mode is the same ofc.

This is very well done. Thank you. I have been recently looking at a smaller / lighter system (preferably a tablet or 2-in-1) to play lighter or more casual games on. And my search started with looking at the MS Surface. I found the same general "it's not for games" guidance. But, didn't have any idea what that looked like or where the limit was. This illustrated the point in a fantastic way. I could very likely play most of the games I wanted on a Surface after seeing this. However, there are one or two more demanding titles which will likely push me over to the Asus Flow line. Thank you for allowing a more informed decision. It's appreciated.

On OnePlus 12, in video, pressing 3x should switch to the telephoto lens, but in low light it keeps using the normal lens all the way up to 10x. where it then switches to the tele lens. So in lowish light you can get some really digital zoomed ugliness from 3x all the way to 10x. Knowing that, I stopped using the phone in that range and try to just accept maxing out at 2x or getting closer. But in the case of a person being in a spotlight, the lenses act as advertised. So I need to be careful about panning around with stages with uneven lighting.

The thing that absolutely KILLS Vivo phones for me is that the always on display can only show notifications from like four system apps and that's it. WTF Vivo? Why can't your $1,000 phones do things that literally any other Android phone made since AODs became a thing can do? Do I have any new Discord messages? Literally all other brand phones will show me on their AODs. On a Vivo, don't know! It can't show Discord notifications on the AOD, for reasons! Guess I'm supposed to unlock the phone and then check every time I want to see if any app has sent notifications other than GMail and Google Messages. Hard pass Vivo, fix this crap. I don't care how good the cameras are if the phone can't do basic every day functions.

I absolutely hate the skin smoothing effect that my OnePlus 11 has on the self camera. Even when you set sliders to the minimum, it still does it. I'm happy to hear you talk about your dissatisfaction with OnePlus macro mode. And I hope after your complaints, OnePlus takes the community complaints more seriously. You often talk about how OnePlus is releasing really good phones here in North America, and that they should be more popular. But as a OnePlus 11 user, I would not be getting another OnePlus device. Great value phones, but they don't listen to the community and just mess up a bunch of little things. Things you may not care about, you're a camera and compute performance per dollar type of guy (and I come to listen to your insights on those), but lots of other things that are easy to fix but they don't fix it. One example is the janky animations when using third party launchers. Chines OEM seems to not care about having third party launchers work properly with gesture navigations. Or the fact that App Info is not available when you hold down a notification on OnePlus. And notification history is not available in the notification tray. The music widget in the quick panel sucks. Or the new IOS style quick panel with a vertical brightness slider all the way at the top 🤮. The community asks for these things to change over and over again, but OnePlus doesn't care or is too arrogant to change it. Oneplus needs to listen to their community and just fix the little things. Like the macro mode you have an issue with. Edit: I appreciate all the little things OnePlus does add to their phones to make it great. And I love the fast charging. But they are shooting themselves in the foot by not ironing out all the wrinkles. The notification and quick settings panel complaints can easily be resolved. Motorola new HelloUI allows users to have Motorolas new layout or the stock android version. Oneplus can easily do the same.

on my honor magic 5 pro, the auto camera switching from main to uw-macro drives me insane in the regular mode. you can deactivate it but you need to do it every single time again, absolutely can't stand and never use uw cameras on phones since they all flat out suck in my opinion (there are some exceptions with decent uw-sensors on certain oneplus phones, but that's it). if i go to pro mode it won't switch but it also won't do the nice hdr from the manual mode. the worst thing is that the camera switches happen way too early (at least on my phone), so for example i could easily go 5 inches closer with the main and still have a perfect focus on the object. meanwhile i've completely abandoned the stock camera app and am now using bigkaka's gcam 9.1 not only are the results much better, it also doesn't switch. having auto-switch in pro mode would drive me insane, honestly a very stupid move of vivo!🤦🏻‍♂️

Using the Xiaomi 14 Ultra for the past month and I can say that the phone behaves well in both Auto and Pro modes. In Pro mode, the phone does NOT hold your hand in the slightest if you set everything in manual, and even with everything left in Auto, the phone does not kick out of the sensor that you are using regardless of the distance of the subject or zoom. Each sensor will have a minimum and a maximum focal range and the phone will not switch the sensor if you try to go past each limit. It'll still keep you in that sensor until you change it.
