POC's Lightest Cycling Helmet - POC Ventral Lite Road Cycling Helmet Review feat. Full Ventilation

Спорт

There are two ways to go fast as a cyclist, additional training or reducing weight. For those looking at the second option then you’ll want a lightweight bike and gear such as the POC Ventral Lite. It’s one of the lightest variations of the Ventral helmet that POC offers and has been optimized to maximize ventilation and trim every extra gram. While the Ventral Lite looks similar to the other POC Ventral helmets, the structure has been optimized with a different density EPS foam to allow them to reduce the in-mold PC shell to only the necessary areas. Additionally, the 360° head cradle has been put on a diet with the use of cables instead of plastic straps and lighter dial elements. Retail price on the Ventral Lite is $275, the same as the Ventral NFC helmet, and is offered in a variety of distinct color combinations.
To create the Ventral Lite, POC did more than simply take a dremel to the existing Ventral lineup of helmets. Strategically placed vents give the helmet a swiss-cheese look and funnel air through internal passages for maximum ventilation and weight savings. The vents are similar to the POC Ventral Air Spin NFC but expanded for additional airflow and weight reduction. Even the in-mold PC shell has been minimized to only the front and rear of the helmet leaving exposed foam. Despite the minimalist design, POC still offers the Ventral Lite in a variety of unique solid and contrasting color schemes. Color options range from matte black, gray, to bright options such as black / blue or black / green...

    Great review. Thank you. POC Ventral Lite vs. ABUS Airbreaker??!! I can’t decide!

    Tough choice. ABUS still isn't being distributed here in the US so we haven't had a chance to ride with their road helmets (the purple flip-flop Gamechanger is something we'd like to see in person). That said, POC's styling and color choices with the Ventral Lite are tough to beat especially if you already own matching POC sunglasses.

    @@TheSweetCyclists I ended up choosing the POC Ventral Lite in Granite Grey. Super light. I got the European spec which is as light as possible.

    @@m.a.2282 Nice choice. POC offers some very cool color schemes. They also have gloves/socks/kits in the same colors as well.

    I wonder... if it lacks all those safety liners, does it offer any more room inside then the equivalent ventral spin?

    Yes/no. The MIPS and POC Spin pads don't really add much thickness to the helmet. The Ventral Lite is much more ventilated and open on the inside though as all the internal air channels are exposed so it's the coolest POC helmet we've ridden with.

    Medium or large for 58cm head?

    I have the same 58cm measurement, and the medium one shown in the video fits perfectly (it's 54-59cm range per the box). The helmet fits very similarly to other medium helmets from Lazer / Bontrager with enough extra space for a Buff on colder days.

    @@TheSweetCyclists I ended up buying both sizes and sending them both back, the large was too big and the medium was the wrong shape for my head, had no space in the front and back and the pads in the top were not making contact with the top of my head.

    What is real weight in L size?

  • @TheSweetCyclists

    @TheSweetCyclists

    We don't have the large one to weigh, but the medium one we had was only 6 grams more (well within manufacturing tolerances) than the claimed so it should be safe to assume the claimed 270g is pretty accurate. As with any sub 300g helmet, it's easy to forget you are wearing it.

    Who wears a helmet?

    Most cyclists wear a helmet - it's cheap insurance. A helmet can protect you from injuries and road rash - even a slow speed fall can be pretty painful otherwise. This POC helmet is a high-end model, you can find more budget friendly options from other brands.
