Scientist here - love this quiz! So accurate!! I’m realizing that the search for “planner peace” may be a ‘scientist’ thing 😂 and we’ll never find it because we keep changing the finish line as we change! 😂 But actually - for me - the peace is found in being ok with changing things and not having to have one thing that works forever. 💖

Right!! I think planner peace is a myth, at least for me, and thats why bullet journals were so great for me for so long. I can change it every week, no problem, and its ok it the system only works for a month. There are hundreds of ways to set up a planner, so I'll never be bored!

58% artist, 50% maximalist, 42% scientist, and 25% minimalist. All of it is pretty bang on, to be honest! It's funny though, because I love looking at minimalist spreads and ideas because they make my eyes so happy, but in reality, I'm a chaotic, messy, receipt-collaging train wreck of a planner :p I've fully embraced the imperfection side of things with my messy-ass planners.

I'm a scientist! And I have never seen a graph illustrate my personality so well. I got 42% scientist and 42% artist- because, I am an artist. At the beginning of my planner journey I really struggled to have both functionality and pretty handmade drawings. I'm primarily a bullet journaler but a minimalist with no decorative elements and that's because I was zapping my creativity dry. All of it went to experimentation and drawings in my bullet journal. I basically had to sit down with myself and have a nice long talk about my priorities. What was more important to me? A pretty planner? Or a functional one? I had to switch up my planning style and layouts almost yearly due to various changes in my life. I had to keep detailed trackers and notes that I had to change as my life changed. That's the scientist in me. Super fun quiz! Thanks for making it!

This is so illuminating! I came out a minimalist on the quiz, which I guessed from watching the video. But the challenge comes when I think I should be a maximalist or artist because I admire those spreads but never seem to be able to make them workout myself. And I do appreciate beauty. This year, I decide I want my planner to look elegant so that might be the perfect fit for a minimalist. Now I can relax and be a minimalist without feeling pressure to be something else.

I'm 75% Scientist, 58% Maximalist, and 42% each Artist and Minimalist. Definitely agree with this assessment. I have ADHD, so consistency is impossible for me. I have to keep experimenting to make sure my planning system stays functional, otherwise I'll eventually just stop planning altogether. The maximalist side of me LOVES having several different sets of pens, markers, highlighters, washi tapes, stickers, etc. However, I have whittled down my collection somewhat, and now I'm currently keeping most of my decorative stuff and pen sets at home to avoid lugging so much around (I used to try to carry as much with me as possible!). I consistently gravitate toward systems that are flexible lol. I almost always have a traveler's notebook in my lineup, as well as a simple spiral notebook or journal. I hop in and out of disc-bound and ring-bound planners quite a lot, and without Google Calendar and other apps, my appointments and reminders would get lost in the shuffle. Finally, Frixion pens, markers, and highlighters are a must-have in this household. I don't know how I ever lived without them! The newest addition to my lineup is the Rocketbook Panda Planner. I love the ability to erase and reuse the pages. However, it doesn't work well for on-the-go planning because you have to use water to erase the Frixion ink, and I'm so used to using the erasers with Frixion on regular paper that I'm afraid I might forget and damage the Rocketbook paper! So, I've decided to use it for goal planning, since many of the pages are designed for that specifically. Right now, I have my lineup set for 2023, but I don't expect it to stay the same throughout the year. The only thing that will probably stay the same will be my color code, which I've managed to keep mostly the same for several years. And even that could change at some point! lol Happy holidays, everyone! 🎄✨🎊

I think if there was a z axis, it’d be something along the lines of journaling/memory keeping v planning or past-facing v future-facing. I feel like some people view their books more as documents for posterity/places to reflect and others see them as a purely forward-facing tool with to-dos, goals, scheduling etc. and then I guess morning pages/stream of consciousness stuff would be right in the middle lol. You could say this is similar to the functionality axis, but I think it’s a slightly different (but important!) vector to get clear on when starting a planner or journaling system. I think there’s so much value in both approaches! Loved this video, got me thinking clearly haha

I’m a scientist - crossed with a minimalist. I have yet to find a planner - paper or digital - that does everything I want it to. So now I make my own digital “planner” so I can add extra pages whenever and wherever I need them. Sometimes I use the same layouts for months - but more often I have some layouts that stay the same (like the month layout) and others that can change wildly from one day to the next (like the daily and weekly layouts). I also like to write - a lot - so I tend to need LOTS of space for daily pages as I typically use up several pages per day. Hence the difficulty with paper planners as they are rarely designed to accommodate that sort of thing. Have tried a paper bullet journal but didn’t necessarily love the visual chaos that ensued when I changed everything every other day. And I use basically zero art. No artistic skills whatsoever and it is not something that interests me. I do love looking at (and buying) all sorts of planners to see if I pick up anything else that might work for me.

I'm not good with digital but binder type planners or discbound planners give me the option to reorganize the pages how I want, add what I want and take out what I want. I want to be digital so I got the Galaxy Note, but so far I just use it for grocery lists 😅

My spreads are very simple, each page has a to do/reminders, meal tracking, and the rest is for entries whether that’s how my day is going, something I learned, or maybe a quote. I definitely decorate, putting some stickers or receipts here and there, but nothing that’ll distract me from writing my entries:) I also stick with the same supplies and journals whenever it’s time to get a new one! Once I settled on a A6 blank notebook, I needed to see what type of planner I was. Your Planner Matrix playlist was so useful in helping me decide where I stood. I've already designed and mildly decorated a 2024 spread I can live with. The blank notebook no longers scares me but gives me room to change as I grow. Kudos to you! 🎉😊

I got the scientist and I would say that's correct. I'm huge on tweaking small things until I've made something super functional, and then making more small changes as the need arises in my life. I'm overly detail-oriented to the fault. I really like that you had sliders and such, and the percentages of the types. The only question I didn't care for was "It’s important to me that my spreads are easy to replicate week to week and month to month, because my decoration style changes so much." because it felt unclear. For example, it's important to me that my spreads are relatively easy to replicate because I have very severe ADHD, but I don't base my layouts on potential decor at all. I selected the spot around 25% but felt unsure at which half of the question was more important.

I am back in my Franklin Journal this year. Stopped using a planner 4 years ago when I retired and was just having lists and sticky notes every where. I used to use a daily but am trying a weekly this year and see how that works as a retiree. Love using stickers in it and pretty washi tape. Color helps me stay in my planner.

I've got the minimalist! Yay! That's sooooooo me. So, so, so me. Usually I'm involved in tons of stuff that require my attention: my work, my studies, things to do around the house, my hobbies, reading clubs, YT channels (in Spanish), so I need something that helps me keep track of everything without consuming time. I tried the bujo system for about four or six years until I realized that that wasn't really working for me. I take copious note on everything and my planners always chunk up, and carrying them, putting them in and taking them out of my bag becomes a feat. So yes, I need a system that doesn't add extra bulk to what I'll already put in it. You nailed my case to the t.

75% scientist, 42% minimalist, 17% artist and maximalist. This is very accurate and it's one that often surprises people because I am art director/design. I make my living as a creative. It perplexed more than a few to know I keep a simple system. I've learned too much decor hurts my creative processes and since every project is different, my way of keeping track often needs to flex to accommodate the projects at hand. That approach also served me well parenting a neurodivergent child because it the need always changed. I do enjoy pretty planning accounts, and I do have a little pretty in mine, but an embellished planner takes away from other areas of my life and I need that energy used in places other than my planner.

But then my Cousin for my personal life is just chaos as a Maximalist because I love trying out new things like watercolor, inks, pens, stickers, washi tapes, etc to keep my lil ADHD brain excited and happy, and it actually helps keep my journaling habit consistent. But I hope to evolve into an Artist at some point because I'll look back at some spreads sometimes and go "Wow, did I really need to border the entire page with washi tape? 🤦‍♀" LOL PS, I love your vids, Rachelle. In December, after just three months of using the Hobonichi for the first time, I felt my interest waning. I generally try to write down some of the bigger things that distract my teams during their sprints, but I like this calendar idea because I can have a visual representation to let me know how many distractions we had or impediments I needed to help remove. I get distracted easily so even lines or dot grids do not work for me. However, I'm a maximalist when it comes to color-coding my planner. I like to see how my time is spread out between work, school, family, finance, and personal-related items. I've spent a lot of time trying different styles and sizes, but my setup has to be plain if I'm going to use it. So i switched to a hobonichi A6 weekly supplement and a6 day free for work. the weekly supplement works super great to map out my work projects and i love decorating it. The a6dayfree is plain and i just use it to write down meeting notes, random to do stuff and its my ugly planner lolol. I also got a hobo weeks mega this year to use as a personal planner for home life and grad school. I'm still getting the hang of it but i'm loving the duo.

Scientist. Honestly, the strugle to find what works is never ending. Sometimes it feels like I don't actually understand planning at all. My favorite thing about the hobonichi community, especially the weeks, is I've seen a lot of examples of how people Actually plan, and have gotten a lot of fresh inspiration. I like elelments of the happy planner, but its so hard to find actual planning inspiration. Its seems like a lot blank pages that happen to be decorated get the most traction online. I do like decorating, but I've learned that it has to be the last thing I do. Decorating before planning, before I know what goes in the boxes or how much space I'll want to use is just 🤯. I decorate as I go and towards the end of the week. Maybe I'll add some washi and small stickers out of the way in the beginning of the week, but nothing big until I know what I have to work with and what I want to highlight/commemorate. Also, I actually am a scientist, though I think my planner experimentation has a lot more to do with adhd and not having consistently structued days from flexible work hours.

Interesting quiz. I scored highest in Maximalist - at the moment I have slightly more free time and have just finished my PhD and starting a new career direction, so I'm experimenting a lot with my journals. My PhD journals were pure scientist. I currently have two journals, my personal journal which is very much the maximalist, with lots of art. My work journal is minimalist. So I have two opposing styles at the same time.

I got 45% maximalist but 33% on both minimalist and artist. I have a bullet journal and I like to try new things and adapt it to my needs as well as decorate with markers, but when I'm busy or deep into the school year I always fall back on the same spreads every month with different colors and fonts. I would even say that over breaks in school I'm the scientist because I don't set up nice pretty weekly spreads, but it's always the time I question my layouts and change them up.

That quiz is so much fun and accurate! 🤯😅 I got the Scientist closely followed by the Maximalist, which is a fair assessment. When I need to concentrate, my decoration is reduced, but if it's a fun time, let the decor flow. I love changing my layouts to fit my needs at the time.

Scientist! I like hearing from the other scientists in the comments about the struggle for planner peace. I've felt so much shame for not being consistent, for constantly buying new planners to try. I'm to the point where I feel more comfortable going day by day, but I still struggle to find the perfect planner to suit my basic needs.

this is totally the struggle of the scientist!! You are an experimenter by nature but that means the things that work just alright sometimes don't feel perfect. Something that helps me is to remember that perfect is the enemy of the good. I need something that works even if it's not 100% for me. 80% will get me by and that's fine :)

I got minimalist as the top but with maximalist as a close second! Interesting. I use more than one book but each book is used for a particular purpose. I choose a set of five mildliners that I use throughout the year although I use lots of different coloured pens (not usually black or blue). My work planner is very simple with just the day/date and bullet lists of tasks. I use a printed planner for personal tasks and appointments/events and I use a few very small stickers in here. Then I also have a happy planner (vertical) which I use for memory keeping and so this has a lot more decoration in it. I doodle and use lots more stickers.

  • @Krystalbrown1105
    @Krystalbrown11056 ай бұрын

I'm slightly below minimalist. I write tasks and appointments in list style with two days on each page. no monthly spreads, yearly spreads, no trackers, or even stickers or colored pens. I keep it so simple that its impossible to not do it for me personally. I think the only thing I might switch up when I run out of pages in my current notebook is to switch to a new brand of notebook (if they ever get soft covers. *cough* Archer and Olive *cough*

Thanks a lot for making this quiz; it was really fun to take! I scored 67% Minimalist and 58% Maximalist. Assuming that‘s because while I‘m fairly minimalist and very consistent in my actual planning, I love using different pens and inks and stickers and washi and ephemera - you name it - in my creative journal … which I also use very consistently. I do have a journal/diary in which I use only pen and paper to record my day, but for my creative journal, I love using ALL. THE. THINGS. 💙

I got minimalist and I wasn't surprised! It fits me perfectly, although I suspect if people knew that I bullet journal and *don't* do gorgeous, highly decorated spreads, many would be surprised because of how often I draw. The whole purpose of my bullet journal is to help me keep me on track with my tasks and I can't think of anything more distracting than highly, intricate layouts...not to mention, annoying! I just bring around a small pack of Mildliners, 2 of the same pen (just in case one runs out of ink), and my bullet journal. Although, I am experimenting with other supplies (like mini post-it notes) and things to help me achieve whatever I'm looking to do. I don't really do too many layouts at the moment because I haven't had a use for them until recently. The most artsy I get with my bullet journal is that I hand-make them. 🤣 Because I found that's the only way I'd actually use it. (And no, decorating the covers of a store bought one is *not* the same thing to me lol I will say, making them is fun.)

Same here - 92% 😁. I don't use stickers at all, will only occasionally use very thin washi to mark off 'structural' things like holidays, and although I avoid colour-coding because it just confuses me, I change things up a little just by swapping my covers around and using a different pen with matching tombo highlighter once in a while. Useful quiz - thank you!

I think i would swap the title (but not the meaning) of maximalist and artist... Only cause to me, an artist is creative in most areas. But that's just im interpretation! What a fun system! I am having such a good time with this video... I think I'm a scientist? But might be minimalist? I straddle a few of these at different times.. When im moving into a new system im 100% a scientist. I prefer to build my planner from the ground up in a stalogy (because thin paper!). I explore all the things i think ill need. They ill play and play and play and play and play until i find a system of layouts that gives me enough room to do what i want in the order i want while reducing the risk of wasting pages. Because i function best in one planner, designed exactly to my specifications that ive drawn out myself. After its drawn up and ready to go, i decorate the whole thing. With water colours and one pen... And then, i dont decorate for the rest of the year. Then im a one pen, one book, minimalist type of planner. When the year is underway im too stressed to actually play in it too much. I save that for the next year!

I'm a minimalist. I tried paper planners again and again. Finally moved to a digital planner in an app. And I'm so happy. I use the same spreads over and over and I used to find decoration tiring. I have a serious health condition that affects my energy levels. Lately in my journal I have included a bit more decoration in the form of stickers and washi tape but it is still very consistent and minimal in style. I like to watch other people make pretty spreads. But I cannot do it myself lol
