If you've ever rented a place, you're probably familiar with those infamous vertical blinds, commonly found in rental homes. Over the years, we've done a bunch of makeovers that have preexisting vertical blinds, often resorting to either replacing these blinds entirely or finding creative ways to conceal them in order to enhance the overall aesthetic of the room.
However, when I recently moved into my new house, something unexpected happened…I think I'm going to keep mine. So in this video, we are going to brainstorm and DIY our way through a variety of solutions so we can learn to love our vertical blinds again.

To me vertical blinds are not dated but rather office-ish. They look ok in Becky’s house since the room is so big and tall but the best addition are the curtains, it looks much better with them.

I’m not fond of them at all, but IKEA has wide ones that are stunning.

@@glorial1569 i also think the way to make them look modern and not office-ish would be to choose wider panels
Only the sorry girls could make me enjoy a 20 min vid on vertical blinds 😂❤

Only the Sorry Girls can make you upset that you have no vertical blinds to upgrade.
It's fun to see something so hated get a bit of love and respect! I love the idea of finding beauty and functionality in things that are usually viewed as cheap or undesirable. :)
Quick tip: Unhook the last ring of the curtain at the end, skip the hook that holds the curtain rod and then hook again. That way the curtain stays in place and you wouldn't never worry of the curtain going too far when you slide the curtains shut. That way you can also hide the connectors et al.

I don't think iv ever not see someone do this
I used to live in a rental apartment and was stuck with those drab, beige vertical blinds. I used removable wallpaper to cover each panel and it looked amazing (even the landlord was impressed!). When it came time to move, I just removed the wallpaper.

Very creative solution - Do you have a place where the blinds can be seen, you may have solved my problem? Also a link to the wallpaper company, please?

@@jewelofwisdom8279 (I'd replied to this earlier but I think it was removed because I included an external link...) I don't have any photos unfortunately but I purchased the wallpaper from Roommates (based in Canada). The pattern I chose was "Making Waves" in blue. If you do choose a patterned wallpaper, be sure to match the patterns so it looks good when the blinds are closed. It's a bit of a tedious process but worth it. I chose that particular pattern because I felt it would be more forgiving if I wasn't able to match the pattern exactly.

Ok, thank you, I’ll look into it!
They always provide a spare panel, even when you buy them pre sized. Usually, the side pieces of the valance will also accept a panel. The green was blocking out more light, and it was also weighing the room. So yes, the colour makes a big difference. Raising them was a stellar idea, and the lighting is just next level. Nothing less is expected here! 😀
Am I the only one who actually LIKED the blue green shades? They were so 70s and cute! Probably should have been taller but I think they could have worked! Either way i hope you do some kind of cool DIY with them!

As a legit old lady, vertical blinds are NOT 70’s at all. Very late 80’s to 90’s.

@@snowwhite7341lol I agree! I find it funny when people get the 60s, 70s and 80s mixed up. I now understand how my mum felt when I got 40s and 50s a bit mixed up :)
I didn't think they could ever be this nice! It transformed the room.
The after is amazing. Becky scores again!!
Omg, that creamy color palette and increased height was such a game changer, and then you added the light... triple whammy!
My solution for plain plastic vertical blinds was to cover them with a nice fabric. I made fabric tubes, slid the vanes in, glued at the top and bottom, and made them look like drapes. But I still had the advantages of the blinds that I needed. I had hundreds of fabrics to select from, rather than just the options at the blind store. It was a bit of work but I really loved the look.
The light colour makes the place look sophisticated, classy, clean, fresh and neat. The green made the place feel more like a dark and cluttered shack.
I once rented an apartment with terrible, brittle and yellowing vertical blinds. We were not allowed to put holes in the walls, so I replaced the brittle plastic with curtain panels, using the vertical panel clips and when it came time to move out, the landlord loved the curtains so much they told me it was okay to not put the panels back up. If only I had known! Those suckers were awkward to store and took up a considerable amount of room in the closet, and I was always worried they were going to break. 😅 Edited to add that Becky nailed it - looks sooooo gooood!!❤
The curtain rod brackets (10:16) work so well. I discovered them a few months ago, and having curtains over the blinds make a world of difference in the look of my apartment and I have more control over how much light comes in at any given point of the day. So inexpensive and effective!
I wasn’t sure about the light strip at first, but the final reveal changed my mind! The extra lighting brightens the space above the track and is so pleasing to the eye. So well done!
I've always loved the way vertical blinds let in light
I was concerned they weren't going to turn out but this actually worked out so well Becky! You made vertical blinds look cool and stylish again! Now I want some! 🤗
thats CRAZY how much changing the color of the blinds and the height opened up the space!
Makes the room look so much brighter and bigger. Love it 😊 Had vertical blinds many years ago and loved them and cleaning them was easy. The lighting behind them is amazing !
OMG Becky, the blinds with the curtains and the lighting all make such a statement that really does suit your 70s house. It looks amazing! You have inspired me, thank you.
I realized the benefits of vertical blind tracks when I tried to replace with a curtain rod and realized if the door or window is super wide, it is really expensive to find a curtain rod that is similar to a vertical blind track where it can be all pushed to one side or the other (which you need for sliding glass doors). So as a lazy way, I just used the vertical blind tracks as a temp situation and uhhh they are still there.....(I used clips to clip the curtains onto blind tracks).
another amazing video! you guys put so much time, effort, creativity and sparkle into your videos, thank you for it :)

Looks so nice and so much brighter. Love the lights behind the blinds. Gives such a warmth to the space.
This opens the space so much more! I love how they blend with the wall more to give the illusion of more space. It also adds much more light to the room too 🥰 these were great!
Wow! What a difference! I think it does make the room look so much brighter and larger! I love the addition of the curtains. I think they just soften the look. The lights…OMGosh! What a fantastic idea! Great video!
Back in the day when I lived in Florida (these were in every house I owned) I used spray paint to get rid of Brown ones just like yours. It was easy fix until I could afford to replace them. I took them out to the garage and spray painted them and re-installed them.

You can even paint graphics on them - scenic or geometric. If you have dust allergies, verticals are the ONLY way to go.
I sold window coverings of all kinds for 30 years. GOOD JOB!! Really fits into the look you're going for in the house.👏👏👏👏
I really enjoyed this episode. Tackling vertical blinds and making them look super cool, is truly original and inspired❤. The end result is beautiful and look a million dollars. Fantastic job, Becky.
Wow, the blinds look great, I like the material you chose, it's very light & airy! I like the option of having curtains and the light strips you added. It gives it a cool look! I was really hoping you'd attempt those colourful abstract blinds, those were sooo unique. 🥰
oh my god yesssss!!!! They look SO GOOD, Becky! Especially with the lights! The abandoned modern/mid century homes tour will forever live rent free in my head.
You can also mix fabric medium with water based paint in the colour of your choice to paint the original ones if you can’t afford a whole new set! And skip the fabric medium if you have the plastic coated material ones ! Works best using a roller for it.❤ I got my room made over for my birthday when I turned 16 and the blinds were green and we painted them the same colour as the wall. I’m 25 now and they still look exactly like the day we painted them
Looks great!! So much more expansive in the room now with a light color around the bright windows. 🧡
I love all the videos at Becky’s house! Such a fun vibe every time! Kelsey’s house is amazing as well! 🩵💜
I can't get over how much more spacious it looks with those few changes! 🥳
I honestly did not expect to like it! But I think adding the curtains helps give you the best of both worlds like you said. It looks so good!!
That looks so good! I like how much brighter🤩 the room is.
this is one of your best ideas + videos. it's like exactly what i need- i want to love my vertical blinds because i'm in a rental!!! but i love all the ideas on how to just appreciate them for what they are and spice them up a little
Wow! The space looks so big and bright!! Loved this change so much!
Bravo! 👏 The lighting behind is such a great addition, too! What a brilliant idea. 🌟
I also like how the new color makes the room look brighter !
Some of us (like me) have severe dust mite allergies and so curtains and especially carpets are bad for my health. Vertical blinds are easier to clean (on a weekly basis) I do love some of those new colors so I will be looking into a change soon!! Thanks for showing us what us new and how to live with what we have only making it better! Love your channel and watching your new home take shape ❤
OMG, the new blinds and curtains really brighten the space! You are so good at designing.
The light color makes your room so much larger! Love the lighting as well!
I love how much brighter this makes your room. I would love any tips on brightening dark corners of your house, both with lighting and passive tricks. My kitchen is a dungeon even though I have a lot of windows and lighting options
I’ve seen those curtain brackets online. I was hesitant to order them but now I’ve seen you use them I’m reconsidering. Your blinds and curtains look great
Great look with the blinds and curtains and lights. Great design!
I absolutely loved it and now i'm obsessed with vertical blinds too! ugh!! xx
I share in your excitement, Becky! My mom just bought a house and there are these awful old verticals blinds. She likes the idea of them but not the old dingy ones she has. Now I’m googling blinds stores near me. The sorry girls always gives me the inspo I need! 😊
Wow, I'm surprised how good this looks! Great job Becky!
Holy crap you made vertical blinds look stunning! ❤️ I adore this!
This was an excellent transformation!! I love vertical blinds, personally
They look AMAZING!!! Good job, Becky!
I just love your house ❤❤❤ The lighting looks great!!!
The lighting in the curtain/blinds actually helps them be more opaque at night! They turned out so fresh and pretty 🤩
I loved the lighting addition! Yesssss
I can’t get over how beautiful this looks!
Thank you for this video! I have some awful blinds that are super old, worn and slightly broken and have been wanting to get new ones, this gave me the motivation!
Huge upgrade. I like the filtered light and the way the blinds blend into the curtains. It's similar to layered curtains and sheers which were very common in the 70s. We sure had them!
Love the new blinds!! And the sofa looks so comfy and that Monstera in the corner is to die for :D
I love how it turned out!!! It is definitely more lighter, cooler and brighter. The LED make it so much different and warmer
What a difference, they look amazing!
I love that you can add a decorative valance on top of/outside of the original one on these blinds. Plus you can still add curtains on the ends.
Love the lighting so pretty!
The light addition was a 10/10 idea I’m definitely going to do that!!!
I'm so glad I saw this! We are closing on our forever home and it has vertical blinds in the dining room!
Raising them higher was such a great upgrade! Love the lighter color, and using an Ikea bit and L bracket was genius :)
Looks so good, love all your ideas.
Weeeellllll you just gave me my next project! Absolutely the update inspo I needed for my sliding door vertical blinds!
Wow. What a difference!! They look awesome.
this looks SICK!!!! it's so calming and airy now!
Good ideas on the boring vertical blinds made look top notch and classy!
This video is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much!
What a huge transformation. It's very elegant and chic, love, love, love ❤❤❤
Love the lighter color and exposure of wood frame!❤😊
They turned out so good!
Definitely gonna try out the light strip hack one of these days on my blinds. It looks to elevated
Honeycomb blinds are the way to go! My parents put me onto them, and I have loved them ever since. You can adjust whether the top or the bottom of the blinds are showing and they let an abundance of light in without you seeing through AND they are aesthetically pleasing/ have a modern look to them. Perfect all around.
whoa that turned out so good ... luv the lighting
it looks awesome becky!!
That was definitely the finish touch on your room. So beautiful 😍
I’m happy you figured out how to hang curtains while keeping your vertical blinds. I bought mine from a vendor at eBay. The only difference is that mine came in one piece and for three. Thank you
Take a sip of water every time she says “Vertical blinds”. We’re gonna be hydrated today, besties 💪🏻
boy! that change really brightened the space. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
omg those curtain brackets are just what I needed!! I have commando hooks holding a dollar store curtain rod for a small window just so I can have cute lace curtains covering the plain white vertical blinds. this is a rental and I wouldn't wanna go through the effort of changing out the blinds even for cuter vertical blinds let alone switching them out for a curtain rod when we're probably not staying here for more than a few years, so I'd rather just put curtains over top. curtain brackets sound SO much better than my solution lol, I have to get those!! I will admit the green blinds in that space was a total vibe but they did absolutely make the space look darker, so I think you made the right choice :)
The info for these videos gets me every time ❤🎉
Those small changes just up the glam in that room 1000%. What a great video.
Wow! This was a really cool video! You did an amazing job! I’ve never seen anything like this. I’m currently living at my moms and she has a vertical blind in the living room. I was going to get rid of it but I think I might try this instead. Yours look so expensive and cool! One thing I would be tempted to do if I was you was paint the top window frame white to match the other frames and give a little more height to the look.
been looking for a treatment for a sliding door and this might be the ticket. Really like your hack to put curtains in front of the blinds using hardware you could find locally. and the lights definitely add that final touch.
Totally elevated!! Love it
I love this video! Thanks Becky
This looks amazing!
this looks soooo good i love the final look, now i'm thinking about maybe installing vertical blinds at my apartment lol
What a transformation! Love!
Looks absolutely fabulous
I've always liked vertical blinds! Great job!
BECKY!!! This was everything!! I think maybe the best upgrade so far because of its simplicity and huge impact!!
Thank you so much for sharing the DIY curtain holder! I'm going to try it! I live in a rented flat and my lanlord doesn't want to buy new blinds (they were totally wrecked and filthy!) or let me take down the rail to put up curtains (and the curtain holders are insanely expensive) 😭 But you saved my situation! Thank you again!! ❤ I love how your living room is turning out, btw :D
Becky, the new blinds are beautiful!!!
I can’t wait to do this! We’re remodeling right now and taking all the stuff down so I can remount higher and add the curtains and lights!
Looks wonderful!!!!!
