Lowkey spoiler i guess ??? I think this was when Yuko realized that he saw Tohru was his mother figure. His mom wasn't there for him when he was a kid, much less any of his family. They all abandoned him emotionally. For Tohru, she was the first person, much less a girl, who cared for him deeply. She was the first person to care for him like a mother would.

I was bullied for years by a group of popular girls during middle school and 9th grade. My best friend RIP Jasmine was my protector against them. She let no one mess with me

Can't help but wonder, why did you add 'RIP' before Jasmine's name?

It's not almost over, the openings clearly state "first season", which implies there will be more than one. After all, we're not even done yet. The latest episode was the confrontation at the Hanajima household, meaning there is so much more to cover.

I have to admit deep voice Yuki sounds loooovely. I also love Tohru's new voice as well. Its actually so adorable.

Another great episode! I have to say I love even though the episode was focused on Kisa, they also showed development of Yuki's past as well. Kisa is one of my fav characters mostly because I relate to her so well. From elementary until my last year of middle I was bulled as well (4th grade to about 9th). I too at the time had no one but friends (like Kisa has Toru) to vent to until it stopped. Q&A- What is your all time (or top five if that is easier) Anime and Manga?

This episode is my favorite coz from the beginning to end was so touching and dealt with issues of bullying 😢 and how to rise above it...

Quick disclaimer, I was not a major fan of the 2001 version. I finished it then forgot about it. But this 2019 version really got to me. Aside from the stellar animation of the remake, one thing I really loved in this version was how they treated the characters. While watching, I was really impressed by how much agency and fleshed out the characters are. It's not like they were just tossed around by circumstance or relied on others to make decisions for them.

Great video BriThi. This fruits basket episode is definite one my favorites!

This has to be one of my favorite Fruits Basket comparison video you've done! This episode was just so deep and I really like your deep insights to it. I never understood what it meant to "love yourself" either but Yuki's explanation just made a whole lot more sense. I'm really loving Yuki's character growth. Can't wait for Kyo's too! So in the original class letter scene I think Yuki was smiling not to comfort but because, like Toru, he allways smiles. He allways struggles to be what people need him to be and the smile in the original was more sarcastic and ridiculing in nature at first and then shifted to become soffter after he started talking about Toru. I allso think the sudilty in Yuki's charicter was intentional in the original as they only had one seson and they wanted to keep the focous on Toru and Keyo.

This episode broke me almost as much as ep 14 (Momiji past + visiting the grave) Q&A: Do you advertise your channel on any social media? Like /a/, reddit and facebook groups (I highly recommend the Furuba subreddit). Your videos are really interesting and well edited, I'd exepect you to have way more subscribers.

While I was watching the remake I felt like this episode was rushed because it was the same story already told in the original, but listening to you analysis of it has given me a new view of and appreciation for it, thank you!

10:33 what really broke my heart in this scene was Kisa caressing Tohru's hand more than her expression, it was like "i'm sorry, i'm so sorry for hurting you" ugh so bad they didn't ass it in the remake.

One of my favorite episodes, this is when I realized how much I love this show, before I thought it was just good, I can relate to Kisa, I was bullied too...❤💔

I love when cute things happen between tohru,yuki and kyo. Also personally I like when tohru is overly emotional it's so cute 😍 this is definitely my favorite anime series I can't wait for season two!!!! Lol

I ship Yuki and Tohru too ! I have hearts floating in my head for the 4th time i watched that scene i can't get enough of it It just make me uncomfortable that the original yuki have a girls voice

I only just realised, but in the last scene, Kisa can be seen wearing one of Tohru's dresses. How did I only just see that?? lol :)

OMG stop second guessing yourself! You weren't too somber, you did a great job explaining the feels. That's what makes this series great, so don't shy away! It's ABOUT dealing with complicated and difficult feelings. You'd sell it short if you played light all the time. That's WHY I love this series. It deals with the hard stuff. It says there's a way. It says "It's okay" which is the line guaranteed to make me cry, even in the manga that I've read about 20 times. Say what you feel and own it!!!

ill be honest. i only read the manga few time, i never follow it and not a fan of the franchise, and i watch the 2001 anime at random ep, and it happen to be this ep . and holy shit it stick in my memory till today . Tohru voice just pierce through anyone heart . i try to find this scene in yt, alot of the new one appear and it really doesnt feel the same with different VA , it is also more flashier more color with shade and stuff make it merrier , the original has it perk bcos of the lack color really set the mood .

Honestly Zoe thank you so much for asking this. This has been on my mind for some time. I worry that if I stop making these kind of videos on the series everybody is just going to abandon me. It's honestly terrifying. But to get to your question I do plan on making videos on the second season of Fruits Basket BUT I do really want to expand out and talk about other amazing anime's I'm watching.

That makes sense & I'm sorry you're worried but I don't think you need to be as there's a lot of other anime people are interested in & there's apparently gonna be around a six month break until season 2 of Fruits Basket which will give fans, such as myself, time to watch or catch up on other anime. I'll be honest with you I actually think your videos for S2 of Fruits Basket might be more my thing as (unless you use the manga) you won't be comparing the old with the new but just analysing what you've watched like Jojotalkstoomuch, AH Brandon Anime rewies, Alex Meyers & Overly Animated (who are all doing pretty well I think). This is obviously not to diss the type of videos your making now but I personally think that it would be more intresting for you to 'go a bit more off script' as it were plus the other seasons will have all new characters, romances, storylines & revalations which I'm sure will give you plenty to talk & theriose about especially if you've never read the manga.

Oh don't worry it was no trouble & I was genuinely curious so thanks for answering my questions. I look forward to hearing your thoughts because as a huge manga fan it's going to be beyond amazing to get to see all the content after that made up 2001 ending finally be animated after all this time & I'm dying to know what anime only fans will think. I'm sure any videos you make will be wonderful, even if they're not everyone's cup of tea it dosn't matter because taste in style & presentation are tottally unique & as long as your making the types of videos that you want what others might think dosn't matter & though it might take some time you will find people who truly apprastate the content that you create (or more accruetly they'll find you lol). Not everything needs a dialogue to be understood. Yes, the animation is better in the remake, but some dialogues are not needed, they don't add much to the story telling. The original did a great job of using just a few shots to get the point across. It was much more symbolic. Plus the lack of background and all that is because the manga itself doesn't have much background, she was not the most skilled manga artist... The remake is trying to make everything seem like a casual conversation like in a TV drama. The original was much more artistic in the way it tells the stories. I feel like they made Yuki a little too open of a book in the remake. He's the quite and reserved type who doesn't like to show any emotions outwardly. Which is why the scene where they went out searching for Kisa was great, you see Yuki thinking to himself about his past. You don't need a direct confrontation to understand he went through something similar. The remake made Yuki inconsistent with his supposed character type. Plus, the new soundtrack does not have nearly the impact as the original soundtracks. I do enjoy the remake, too. Just trying to point out the original also being a great piece of work as well. I can't decide which is the better version. The original never planned for a second season, so it did not need some of the character building you see going on in the remake. I guess the remake is going to finish the whole story so we'll see what it does in season 2.

No, duh. The author hated the original and carefully planned how to redo it and were getting the manga animated all the way now. Which is good because Fruits basket has always been a family story and then the side of romance. Its about dealing with family and overcoming trauma. Which most of the characters have.
