Playskool 1992 Teddy Ruxpin Refurb 1 - Head Animation Drive Belts

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This Teddy Ruxpin had no animation working for its eyes or mouth. In this video I restore it to working condition by replacing the drive belts inside the head. Its the smaller 1992 Playskool version of teddy. I think there is a slightly earlier WoW branded version which should be mechanically the same. It's a long video because I wanted to show every stage and how tricky it is to reassemble the head. If you cant get the exact same size of drive belts, maybe a millimeter or so bigger would still be OK. Please let me know in the comments if you have a successful fix with this method. Best of luck !

Would the 1985 WOW Teddy Ruxpin fans be interested in a new device that would allow you to create new stories), WITH synchronized animations for both Teddy and Grubby, but WITHOUT using cassette tapes, and WITHOUT modifying Teddy? It would work in real time, no computer or other devices needed. Just speak into the "device" microphone, and use the mouth and eye animation controls on the device "as you speak". If you are recording 2 voices and want to push Grubby's voice to his speaker only, there will be a Pan control to do that - in real time, while speaking. There's a possibility that I could add the ability to go back after recording the audio and add animations as you play back the audio... for better synchronization. Playback would be through Bluetooth to Teddy via a (wireless) bluetooth cassette adapter. I'm a EE, and have a Teddy and Grubby (and "stuff"), and in the process of trying to bring Grubby's animatronics back to life, I created the heart of the device to create the animation control signals... in real time... and the ideas just started to flow. If this were to be a "product", I would obviously have to make some profit to make it worth my development time and expenses... so just wondering what people might be willing to pay for such? (if at all)

This is incredible. I put my hands up to you sir. This evening I set about to repair my 1985 Teddy Ruxpin. He is in alright condition but his eyes and mouth are not working. I am so impressed by the making of this toy but I know I wouldn't be able to do this job myself. I would love to have him mended for my first baby who is now 5 months old and already fascinated by him. Do you do repairs? If so how do I contact you? Please help - Laura

Could I use a little nail-polish remover/acetone to soften the super glue a bit? I would certainly clean the acetone off any important plastic pieces to prevent disintegration. Just wondering if that would aide the disassembly process. Thinking about repairing my two small Teddys.

The playskool version was much lighter in weight as the original if a child accidentally dropped it on someone's foot ud hear a loud barrage of cursing a mile away because a furry bear with the weight of an anvil busted there foot the one positive is with the playskool version switched to AA batteries again dropping the weight

I used this video to try to repair my 1992 Teddy Ruxpin. I have had a lot of trouble finding the 33MM and 35MM o rings but finally found them. The mouth moves only slightly and the lever for the eyes never moves up to move them. Wondering if the motor may not be strong enough to make this function properly? Any ideas would be most appreciated?

I think you're the only person who's actually done a video on how to repair one of these, I think most people just don't even bother trying to fix these ones because they always break. On a slightly unrelated note, if you try to turn this Teddy Ruxpin on without a cassette cartridge in the slot, will Teddy turn on at all or is there a switch that detects when a tape is inserted, preventing Teddy from switching on without a cassette in the player?

That often times happens with Teddy Ruxpin recordings. I've not had any real experience with the PlaySkool Teddy Ruxpin because I don't have one, but I know that if you turn the early ones up too high they will distort terribly. I think in some cases the audio in some of the original recordings is a little distorted too because of the way it's recorded.

I doubt it has anything to do with the age of the toy, it's more likely the recording quality of the original source material or how it was duplicated.

You are totally wrong. I disassembled and repaired an original Teddy last year, and I can tell you that the internals are absolutely not in any way the same. For a start, the motors in the head of the original are both direct drive and have no belts at all. EVERYTHING is different about these two bears except the cosmetics on the outside.

Awesome video! As someone else said, I think you're one of the few people who have actually bothered to successfully fix the Playskool TR. It seems to come apart just like the 80's one, right up to where you have to split open his skull. The older one has such a better repair-ability design. You have to break the glue off his mouth to open the two halves? You have to use a piece of string and a rubber band to align this and that, and then use essentially needle nose pliers to put the belt on while it's still partially open? Yeah... I'd love to see how it was officially put together when it was new. I'll probably never fix a PS TR, but what I did get from this video is how to sew nice and neat the back of Teddy's head. Because I DO want to fix my old 80's TR. And that's the biggest worry I have. Re-sewing his head.... O.o. Thanks for sharing this video!
