Playing the Sega Saturn Online in 2024 - James and Dan discuss the Netlink

Ойындар

Last month we took receipt of our SegaSaturn modem kits from our buddies at Sega Saturn, SHIRO! and have spend the last few weeks creating and uploading content showing the games in action and the connection method between our Saturns.
In this show, we discuss the process of receiving the kits, delve into what’s in the kits, talk through the technology behind getting Saturn online, and address some of the more commonly asked questions around the process.
See you on the SEGA side!

An amazing time to be alive. The Saturn and MegaDrive communities are thriving so much at the moment. Easily the two consoles getting the most attention from fans AND official capacities. Great stuff lads. I think it was nice you shouted every member out due to the assistance with getting the netlinks but really we wouldn't be members if it wasn't for the great content!

I love the Satiator as I like being able to play my discs from my teens still but really hope the alternative takes off as it’s far cheaper. Playing online across the country is crazy that it’s real. It’s an incredible effort by all involved.

Virtual On is one that I'm really happy plays well. It's the game that pushed me to try my hand at writing the tunnel script. I was getting into the game offline and realizing how important timing is. At the time we were playing netlink over VoIP and the gameplay was atrociously slow and laggy. Matches had no strategy without the ability to time attacks. So I was determined to see if there was a better way to do things. I'm excited about the future of Saturn online and seeing where it evolves to. I would especially like to see a fleshed out online homebrew game, which at one time would have seemed a far fetched dream.

It’s sensational, Joe … the work you’ve done with the tunnel is insane. It genuinely felt like Dan and I were sitting on the same sofa playing, it was no different than local versus play. I’ve got twin sticks coming from Japan thanks to a good friend of the channel, so when they arrive I’ll get some practice with those and we can look at doing a follow up video using them as Dan already has a set. Thanks again for everything you do, Joe. Absolute legend.

Really interested in this, will need to look at what's needed and the cost in more depth. Daytona CE is good on the link cable, no slow down etc
