It's okay, you can hold your ground even with 6 AGI. It's not gonna be hyper optimized but the game isn't that hard that you would need to make a perfect min max build to survive. Beside, she still has 9 AGI so she should be fine.

As somebody who played and really enjoyed this game back when it came out, it makes me immensely happy to see people still playing it and sticking with it in spite of how inaccessible it is by modern game design standards. It's a special kind of nostalgia to see one's very old experiences reflected through such fresh eyes. I'm looking forward to following this playthrough.

this is peak game design imo, maybe not in terms of gameplay and combat but certainly in the way various game systems and mechanics worked with eachother, such as speech and dialogue options, open-ended questlines and even a main plot that has no real linear way it must be completed, as well as a non-linear game world and map. The fact that you can just go straight to Necropolis like you did, or any other area/settlement in the game fresh out of Vault 13, even the endgame areas if you know where they are, and can even complete the game without going anywhere else first, is such a testament to why Fallout 1 is the ultimate RPG The player choice and freedom, roleplaying options, writing, dialogue, characters, plot and story, questlines, world-building, lore, and even things like atmosphere, aesthetic, sound design and music are just absolutely perfect to me and still unsurpased even in the almost 30 years since Fallout first released, very few games and even art in other mediums ever come close to the brilliance that is classic Fallout.

Back in the day when we had to wait for the installer to tell us when to put the next floppy disc in, the game companies gave us these booklets that explained everything we needed to know to start the game. We would sit there and page through it while the computer made worrying noises in the background. There were some games that had in-game tutorials, but that idea was in its infancy, and complex games like this tended to assume that you already knew how to operate the UI from reading the manual.

Meru, the combat in this game is turn based, just like D&D. So you have time to think carefully about your moves. I suggest you read a bit on the manual how to use the interface. There are a lot of things you can do. You can "look" at things by right clicking to change the mouse. So sometimes you need to look at things first. In any case, it looks isometric and simple. but this game is quite deep.

Fallout is one of my favorite games from my childhood. It's been so great seeing so many younger people trying it for the first time, I can't get enough of it. Fun thing you should try, even if it's just to see what it's like briefly. Build a character with 1 int. They rewrite all the dialogue in the entire game, even recorded new lines, simply for people who play an idiot. Also, look in to Fallout Fixt. It, as the name implies, fixes some issues with the game. Fixes bugs, resolves issues with the game playing on modern computers, and some needed QOL fixes. Like a "Loot all" button. Dear god.... dragging and dropping every item is such a slog. The mod also has options for additional content, but those can be toggled off. You may be too far along in the game by now for it to matter, but it's still worth noting.

like some others have said, id highly recommend skimming through the manual as the game pretty much assumes you've read it before playing. id also recommend the et tu mod, which ports the game to the slightly updated engine of fallout 2 which, in addition fixing some bugs, allows you to push any npc out of your way so you don't get stuck behind them. it's a huge problem in the first game, particularly with companions. installing that would mean starting a new playthrough though and i would understand not wanting to do that after all you've gone through, lmao. anyway, cool video! id be interested in seeing more fo1, i'm replaying 2 atm and these games seriously suck you in if you give them a chance. two of my favourite rpgs ever!

It's definitely unforgiving when you don't know what you are doing but you handled it really well. Couple tips: Ian can die, and he can run out of ammo. You can give him stimpaks and bullets by bartering with him. He'll use stimpaks on his own when he is badly hurt, and you can also use them on him if you put them in your equipment slot. And, yes he will also heal slowly over time, as you rest or travel. (So will you, for that matter.) Hope to see another video of this, it was awesome.

It can and most likely will break the save file. 10mm AP is broken, it always just deals less damage due to bug. Use it as if it's metro 2033 - sell those pieces of garbage). Charisma is much less useful here than in other games. Not entirely useless but 1ch 100% speech is entirely possible. Traits are entirely optional. But they add a lot of fun. Games back then like this came with a very thick instruction manual that teaches you how to do everything, including combat and using the UI. This game was no exception. Unfortunately when you download digital versions of old games you don't get the manuals. Save early save often. Generally people equip their weapons right after leaving the vault. Also you might get a copyright strike because of the intro music. (happened to me when I put a playthrough on youtube a few years back.) I hope you enjoy the game when you get it all figured out. It's the best of all the games IMO. But I'm biased, as I played it when it came out in 1997. Edited: Also most of your dialog choices and actions have actual consequences to the world, and future quests. It's a True RPG in that regard. There are lots of items in the piles of things on the floors and stuff that's hard to see because the original Resolution was 800x600 and screen was zoomed in a lot more so you could see things. Turn on highlighting in the settings. And the second weapon slot is not for ammo, but for another weapon. You can switch weapons for free in combat (no action points) by pushing the red button.

one of the devs said that the guy in power armour who laughs at his buddy committing a war crime in Canada on the TV at the beginning is Nate from fallout 4, so another reason that 4 has the worst protagonist is that one of the options is a sadistic war criminal by default no matter how you play

For future reference if you do play FO2 after reading this comment, in the old games it was disadvantageous to leave special stats at odd numbers, as even numbers determine skill points as well as certain thresholds for other things I believe.

Before maybe the mid-2000s most games had manuals, not tutorials. And UI/UX wasn't standardized either, so you might not be able to figure out how to do things on your own based on your understanding of modern UX design. The FO1 manual is actually written as an in-universe survival guide, which is fun if you like lore but it's also like 120 pages. It might be worth it: New Vegas was designed by some of the same people and has direct references to the events/locations/characters of FO1 and FO2, and even the TV show has some sneaky references to FO1 most people miss because they never played it (for example, the obelisk in the middle of Shady Sands actually shows up in the TV show).

new to your channel, your video got recommended to me probably because of how much fallout i've been watching recently haha. idk how it would affect your saves but i would recommend installing the fallout fixt mod. steam won't recognize the game with it and thus won't log hours but the mod fixes up a bunch of bugs and makes some general life improvements. i started playing the game for the first time a couple days ago and it's been a blast, though i am glad i looked up guides for character creation because some stats are way more important than others. hope you have fun :)

The first Fallout game I ever played was New Vegas back when it came out. I'm 23, but a few years ago I couldn't play the original fallout games because it was too old for me. Idk why, but I have been wanting to give the old ones another chance, and I love it. The only retro games I've ever played was grim fandango and some point and click adventure game I remember loving but can't remember it's name. Please play until the end, it's kind of sad Also, I highly recommend getting the mod Fallout FIXT. I can't remember what it all does, but the only thing I wanted it for was to highlight items and containers that are usually hidden behind walls you can't see. In the base steam version of the game, that didn't work for me without the mod even with the setting checked. Check to see if you need it before you get it, holding shift highlights those items and containers

Ian supposedly dies in that zombie town you visited by accident (but of course you CAN save all of your friends from death in game). Hell, in sequel they make joke about Ian burst firing SMG into back of Vault Dweller. The boy have itchy trigger finger.
