Play your 1st Blues Solo - Guitar Lesson with 8 licks in A minor pentatonic

Музыка

Learn to play 8 ridiculously easy blues licks in A minor that sound fantastic. If you've never played a blues solo before, then this is a great place to start. This is an ideal beginner lesson. All of the licks just use A minor Pentatonic in box position 1 at the 5th fret. If you are a more intermediate player, then you'll pick them up really quickly.
Running order:
- Example Solo
- Scale
- Techniques
- Licks
If you would like a copy of the tab, then just email me at marcellison75@gmail.com and I'll reply with the tab attached. In the email, please state in the email that you want the tab for "1st blues solo in Am".
Here's a description of where the licks fit over the chords of the 12 bar blues:
...Lick 1 - intro to A chord
...Licks 2 and 3 - play over the A chord
...Lick 4 - play over D chord
...Lick 5 - starts over the D chord but ends at the start of the A chord
...Lick 6 - play over the E chord
...Lick 7 - play over the D chord
...Lick 8 - play over the E chord

Just a note to all: I have played on and off for 35+ years as a self taught guitarist. Mostly collecting tabs and fixing to original songs. I play open, bar, and modified bar chords. Some theory. I’ve bought some blues courses but they never kept my interest. Marc’s turnaround lesson and simple playalongs in A turned on a light. It took a week (older age, I can’t practice for long) before I memorized my first lesson. I combined it with the turnaround lesson and started hearing variations in my head. Watching TV, I was hearing new variations in my head and would run to my guitar to try it. While playing along with a lesson, I started playing my own variations and finished the 12 bars in time. Everyone is different but a number of these lessons (I’m doing all in A so far) will go far to advancing blues improv. My next goal and suggestion would be a lesson of chords and solo notes combination or singing soloing (call response). Keeping it simple is great. Keep up the good work. Gives me something to do during lockdown as an expat in the Philippines.

I am a 61 year old beginner and I am currently learning the E m pentatonic scale . I now know shape 1 2 and 3 .This is the most straight forward video I've seen. Your explanation and showing when to do bends & sldes is FANTASTIC. I'm now going to get my guitar & start playing the pentatonic scale. Thank you so much & I have subscribed to channel & so looking forward to learning the blues. Thank you .

Wow! Thank you, that's a great comment. Yes, that's exactly what I was aiming for: not just showing a scale, but how to play the notes within the scale to make something musical not just sound like running up and down the scale, which is usually how we all start soloing. Well, it was for me anyway

As a 40 year old beginner guitarist, it's great to watch a beginner lesson on youtube and actually think, as a beginner, I could manage that ! So many of the popular teachers on here fire off a solo and describe it as "easy" because it's easy to them, not the person watching the video. Going to get started on this, thanks again.

Yes, control over bending is really important. When bending to a particular note, we need to make sure we are getting it in tune.

Love your teaching style, mate. I’m able play the A minor pentatonic scale but it always sounded so mechanical. As an intermediate beginner (???), your instruction has breathed life into my playing. On to Box 2!! With slides, vibrato & bends. Cheers from 🇨🇦

Hi Caffeinejo - thanks so much for the excellent comment. This is exactly why I made the video, so I'm really pleased it's working for you... as for box 2, I was thinking of making a follow up video which does the same thing for Box 2, so that's a great suggestion.

@@dball5243 Don, please remember that this is a lesson for beginners who are only just starting out on their journey, so the lesson is just focusing on really simple licks that a beginner can tackle. Clearly, this lesson isn't for you
