    I'm a beginner and doing the 8th fret b string from the 2nd lick seems impossible. Could it be because my string gauge is 10? It just won't bend over a half tone. (I even tried cheat bending by pulling it with my hand over the neck)

  • @MarcGuitarVideos

    @MarcGuitarVideos

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Roderick - It will come with practice. I use 10s as well. I used to use 9s and certainly most beginners would use 9s. It's easier on lighter strings, but I also know players who use 11s and 12s who would make that bend too. SRV supposedly used 13s and would bend a tone and a half. Anyways, keep practicing and it will come with time as your fingers build muscle and the callouses on your finger tips get harder. In the mean time, you could play the lick by sliding the 8th fret to the 10th fret instead of bending.

    can I ask if you are in standard tuning or are you using a pedle to get your sound as mine does not sound as good,

  • @MarcGuitarVideos

    @MarcGuitarVideos

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Matthew, yes it's just standard tuning, nothing fancy. Guitar set up is pretty simple, guitar into amp with a touch of dirt (sometimes from the amp, sometimes from a BOSS Blues Driver pedal, but both sound quite similar. Can't remember which I did on this video). There's reverb in the amp and I often use a delay pedal set really, really low so it's more like a big reverb rather than a delay. Looking back at this lesson now, I used my LP special with P90s for the solo track and my Ephiphone LP for the lesson. They actually sound quite different. It sounds like I'm using a touch more gain in the lesson than I did on the track. The tack probably has the delay but I don't think the lesson part does. Hope this helps. There's no fancy pedals or trickery going on. I like things pretty simple usually.

    Hi Claude - Nothing special on the amp, a bit of gain but not much. Reverb on the amp. The guitar is pretty good, it's got Seymour Duncans and a lot of natural sustain.

    No, can't remember the exact details, however, it will have been the drive channel with the ISF control somewhere over 3/4 the way up - almost fully towards the Marshall/British side but not quite all the way. The drive will have have been on about a quarter - somewhere around there. The tone knobs wont's be too far from half way. No idea on the exact settings, but nothing extreme. Hope this helps.

    Hi Alessandro - a 12 bar blues is a standard chord progression used in the majority of blues music. I made a video explaining it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4yqybOMpsi8gKg.html

    @@MarcGuitarVideos:I meant the ( rhythmic ) counting beats . When the riff starts at beat one, beat two , etc down beat , up beat, ? When to hit the the targeted notes by the time it changes to certain kind of chord or beat. Knowing this will give the confident for a beginner (learner). When I started learning, I did not know this, later years ,I 've found knowing rhythmic beat helps me to improvise whatever comes into my head. I can go even a little early or a little late of the beat , then back to the timing again. No more string break!! LOL Cheers
