What a storyteller Peter Alliss was, simply untouchable in the commentary box. He will be sadly missed. RIP Peter. Love the simple, rhythmic and graceful golf swing of John Panton, no sign of any rush or attempt to force a shot. One of the truly great Scottish players.

As far back as that ? I thought it went back to about 1981 so I was already watching a repeat. It was the appearance of Greg Norman that misled me. Peter had another coaching series roughly a decade later called "Play Better Golf" .

I have been playing golf for 56 years and had 1000 lessons from 100 teachers, but found that I was learning new stuff right from the start. I look forward to hearing a compilation of his best bits of commentary - the remarks that brought wisdom and joy to us for decades.

Great to see this again. Now golf is more accessible to all I think a modern version would still attract an audience. The BBC seems to have deserted golf. You don’t need to pay millions to screen something like this.

Hilarious. Good old 'Alice'. Monty Python does golf. The golf swing is of course really simple: Just remember 512 consecutive positions, and ensure that you execute these 512 positions in perfect sequence. Bingo! Oh, and don't forget to RELAX of course. Good luck mateys.
