IF YOU PLAY GOLF YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS VIDEO

Спорт

You should watch this 35 minute game changing video. In the end you will be convinced about how important impact is to the golf swing. It shows how most of the inconsistencies and frustrations that golfers suffer from are caused by a poor handle position at impact. It also shows what a good impact looks like and why it works.

After hundreds of golf videos...this video is the single best golf video I've ever run across. It is explained in a way that a mechanically inclined minds will understand. It has completely changed the way I was looking at hitting. The first thing is that I was trying to get the highest speed at impact, which I was, but it was without torque, resulting in weird readings on simulators. High club speed, poor distance, because I had no torque on impact. Many other lessons were equally learned. Amazing video.

This is the best golfing video I’ve ever watched. As an engineer, the rotational forces involved made clear sense to me and I instantly grasped the importance of the lead Arm/shaft angle/hands to club face angles and rotating forces and torques as a single equation at impact as never before. I’m lucky to have a range set up with a launch monitor in my garden and went out and hit 60 balls with as much increasing impact lag angle as possible, way beyond normal. I then turned on the monitor and couldn’t believe I was adding 10 yards carry. That’s an amazing result for just 15 minute practise. Fantastic explanation and lesson. Thank you so much. I'm a teaching professional in Utah and have been teaching this to ALL of my students for quite some time. This is the most informative video on the subject I have ever seen. Very detailed and yet easy to understand. During the first lesson with any of my students, I have them place the club over their trail shoulder and pretend it's a baseball bat. Then I ask them to hit an imaginary pitch to center field. Without exception, they will lead with the lower body and create lag and quiet hands through what would be the area they would be striking a golf ball. The release is always long after the point they release their normal golf swing. I will be having all of my students watch this video so they truly understand the reason we train for a proper impact position above all else. Thanks DST Golf for putting this together.

I coach baseball but I'm also an avid golfer. It is amazing to me how many similarities there are between the golf swing and batting. Casting is a major issue for lower-level hitters for the same reasons. They try to use their wrists, hands and arms to generate power early in the swing to hit hard instead of maintaining lag, exerting force and unhinging the wrists at the moment of impact. This results in casting and dragging the bat through the hitting zone. Thanks for the detailed explanations.

This is the single best golf instruction video I've yet come across, and I've watched plenty. Watching it for the third time now. It really is a lightbulb moment when you realise that your position at impact is very different from your initial stance. The golf swing is quite a counter-intuitive thing and I think that is because of loft - humans just don't have a natural instinct for striking objects with a stick that has loft on it. Put a baseball bat in someone's hands and they get the general idea fairly quickly. Put a golf club in the same person's hands and watch as they try to pick the ball clean off the turf, and maybe lean back and try to shovel it skyward. Have you ever considered creating an iron with zero degrees of loft just to illustrate what happens when you get rid of loft? And also what you would need to do to get the ball travelling a long way down the fairway i.e., tee it up very high in front of you and strike it uppishly at more or less full extension? (Would look a lot like a cricketer trying to hit the ball out of the ground). Could be quite eye-opening for many an amateur. I think part of the problem for beginners is misleading concepts and terminology that, instead of helping them overcome their faulty intuitions, actually reinforce them. Consider the terms backswing and downswing for instance. It would be easy to draw the simple inference that the downswing is the _inverse_ of the backswing - in other words you need to return the club to the position you started from, right behind the ball. I think it is more instructive to describe the downswing as ending at the moment that the club head is about to pass the hands (i.e, at full extension). It stands to reason that this should come _after_ impact with the ball - you don't want to finish your downswing before you have even hit the ball. That's why, for example, Tiger Woods talks about wanting to feel the speed in his swing is highest after impact with the ball - he is still in the downswing phase and the highest speed in the downswing comes at just about full extension, or would do if it weren't for the force applied to the club head by impacting the golf ball. If the downswing doesn't end until full extension AND after impact with the ball then logically the ball must be impacted with a lag angle/forward shaft lean. Asking the question of a beginner golfer, "When does the downswing end?" could be a simple way to challenge their intuitions and help them reach the lightbulb moment.

I AGREE!!! I’ve been trying to explain that to some of the “best” golf instructors in the world. When I get done talking they look at me with this blank stair then after a beat “ok great “ So in the backswing we wanna…” like I’m a 3 yr old who’s wasting their time. I have repeatedly tried to explain to them that if I don’t know how I’m supposed to get thru the ball the I HAVE NO GOAL. NO INTENT. So everything they teach me - every “position” they tell me to be in is… for me… a pointless waste of time. Unless you Picked up a club as a child when your instincts are the least influenced by conscious technical thought - you come to the game with a pre-conceived idea of how to get the club to the ball. And if you happen to start really late - say upper 20’s and higher - AND have an instructor - you are REALLY behind the 8 ball. Everybody and anybody who has consciously observed other people hitting golf balls - their brains will almost immediately create a concept of how to hit a ball and 99.9% of the time that concept will be incorrect. Then if they go to a teacher and the teach watches them swing and then starts with…”OK… not bad… so let’s start with your backswing or takeaway. If that’s wrong you’ll never be able to bla bla bla. SO WHATS SO BAD ABOUT THAT?? I’ve never heard if any teacher starting off by telling a student…”yeah ok. What you’re doing - what you’re trying to do is wrong” Sound harsh? It’s NOT IF nobody tells you that - I don’t care what they tell you to Practice or what position they want you to be in - even if that information is exactly correct - even if the player manages to find those positions - so the play can get the the top “correctly” - from THERE HE/SHE will STILL try to get to the ball the only way that makes sense to them - THEIR way - And teachers are baffled: “I don’t get it. This kid gets right where he needs to be and then goes off twisting and turning and shanking it. OR The student will pick up the teachers instructions really well - hit their marks (Maybe hit the ball) and the teacher will applaud them and be amazed that when they come back they’re doing all the same wring things they were doing when they met - My long winded point is: of COURSE they’ve gone back to their way. The teacher - having said told the student “don’t worry about impact right now. If we can get the backswing where it needs to be the rest will just happen. WHAT!? But that makes no sense. You can’t get to the super market if you don’t know which supermarket you’re supposed to go to I have seen MILLIONS of videos: “STOP COMING OVER THE TOP!” Then they’ll go in to tell you that’s it’s because you bring the club back WAAAAAAAY inside and from there you have no other way to get to the ball.” Ok… I’m no teacher. I’m not even a good golfer yet but… I’m sorry Mr “I’m a member of PGA TEACHERS BLA BLA” but that is INCORRECT! People take it back waaaay inside cause that’s THE best way to then come OVER THE TOP! Coming over the top is not a MISTAKE. To a player starting out it is the only way that makes sense to the get the club head into the ball!!!! Taking the Club waaaay inside and then coming over the top - while not consciously - is EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO DO. Until they know that is wrong any instruction (to the student) is just another path to come over the top. And they will try every backswing the teacher wants BUT once they’re done with that - the will reroute everything and find a way to be able to come over the top Yikes. Hope that was insanely boring and actually made some sense. Lastly - SOOOOOO many times I have asked a teacher “How does the club get delivered to the ball??” And they’ll say: “Don’t worry about that. That doesn’t matter right now. Just do the backswing stuff we’re working on and that stuff will just happen 😰

Brilliant video and the DST technology has helped me no end. I started with the bent wedge which ensures your hands are ahead of the ball at impact and progressed onto having the DST Impact lines lazered onto my Mizuno's 2 years ago. My handicap is down to 9.6 from 22 in this time. I have always been self taught so had no lessons, the DST impact lines just remind me to get my hands in the right place at impact and thus my ball striking has improved hugely. I personally believe that this one factor has had a massive impact on my golf game.

I have struggled for years with consistency and have often felt the need to micromanage my club head at impact, but to no avail as everything is happening so fast at that moment. It always amazed me that the pros hit the ball so straight. Surely it was not just superior coordination .Avoiding early extension and getting the body turning (not the hands turning over) at impact looks like the way forward. Off to the range tomorrow to try this out.

I spent the weekend studying these concepts after a bad round and knowing impact position was my problem. I went to the range yesterday and applied these concepts to my swing and it works. I’m excited to keep working on it this week and getting dialed in. Presetting at address was a big key for me similar to Rory’s setup. Also the Nicklaus quote about presetting at address just made so much sense to me, it eliminates so many things that cause flipping and a poor swing plane. Thank you.

Get some practice balls like the whiffe or foam ones and practice with them. Go slow to get the feel of the key points and slowly work up to full speed. Then go out to the range. It's much cheaper to do this. Especially since the practice balls will really spin and show you where/how you hit the ball.

This does an excellent job of explaining the theory of the acceleration through impact with the hands leading, weight shift, clearing the hips and left shoulder, etc. And open golfers understand the impact position is different from the setup position, which I did not realize for several years. You could do with fewer words and a lot more demonstrations and drills to FEEL the proper impact angle .

Please excuse the openly blunt nature of my enthusiasm about this video, but holy SH*T did this improve my consistency in predictably straight shots as well as produce consistently accurate range estimates on every club in my bag!! Here is the part that I found to be absolutely fascinating AND fantastic. By not focusing on my swing per se and focusing more on the strike position and keeping that lag angle behind my wrists, my swing naturally adjusted to keep that long steady stroke through the ball. It was an odd but AWESOME feeling that produced incredibly solid ball contact that was straight as an arrow. After a number of conscious efforts to keep this strike position I realized I was not inputting as much effort and suddenly it really started feeling natural inside of one damn bucket of balls. Was it repeatable the next day? From the first easy swings to the rest of the bucket through the clubs I was thoroughly impressed with myself. What an amazing difference it is between just hitting the ball with a decent swing and actually feeling that your controlling the face to hit the ball. Yes, there is a VERY big difference!!! SO cool!!😎 I don’t know how to thank you for this. Seriously. I am a complete geek when it comes to mechanical concepts be laid out in detail and when you belted out kinematics I broke out the popcorn 🍿🤓🍿. Everything stated here made absolute logical sense and I was easily able to put those concepts into motion. The mental picture along with the feeling of the proper mechanics at work just shoved my swing into place and it just felt right. That was a SERIOUSLY cool feeling. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

@@Dstgolf, again a big thanks. What’s great is that it didn’t take long for it to feel completely natural in my swing. The BEST part is that I now feel confidently in control of the general direction of my shot. I’ve never really had that stronger level of confidence and that is a game changer for sure. Love it!! 👍🏻😎👍🏻

I never knew to fully extend after the ball but it makes complete sense in terms of the clubface naturally wanting to close. I always put my max effort into the impact of the ball rather than past it. I noticed a huge difference after hitting into my net and swing caddie. I can't wait to try this outside, thank you!

I actually tried to hold the lag in my swing for the first time yesterday and felt like I stumbled upon what felt like a tour swing. Little did I know that latter that day I would watch this video which fully explains how I hit my 9 iron (normally 140 yards) 150 yards carry distance. The focus on holding lag with torso rotation/creating the optimal impact/handle position also works best with the clock system for knowing partial wedge distances when I experimented it. The only shots that pros explain having the shaft vertical at impact are flops/high spinning shots. Wonderful video and a must share with my golf buddies.

@@Dstgolf Hi Bertie, I already watched it. Drew the impact line on my 7 iron (on the TM set) and will give it a try next week (season starts the 1st of April, first tournament is the 17th); will hit the range first as I got 2 sets (one TM, one XXIO) and need to get the "feel" for both sets. I found out that I am now a 25.6 WHS (after the club and federation decided to adopt the world hcp system). Will see how this season goes, I hope to go below 15... :). I already started recommending DST Golf to my buddies.
