I use this workflow with Fusion360,. Export as a low detail obj, duplicate the mesh and create a high poly to use as a baking mesh. The low is triangulated, but that does not matter for hard surface. It's a very fast workflow as no retopo is needed and you get a very accurate mesh with the lowest vert count for that shape.

Man, i used to love Fusion360, the main factor being the timeline, that's a bless. Also the fact that you can have planes with correct dimensions and all, that's just good. The only thing that made me switch (for the little projects i do from time to time), was the crashes when trying to make a lot of holes, for design and functional porpuses. Also the way you can make a cube from no where, without the need to make a plane, ohh, soo much time wasted xD. Hope to get something similar, in blender. Plasticity looks good, but it's a "new" workflow for me, and it's also not free, which is why Blender is better for me. If i want to sell things, i don't have to worry about Autodesk complaining xD

This is a software developed by an individual developer. It started charging in the early version of 1.0. I think this is very bold and also makes paying users bear a considerable risk. If the developer can persist until version 3.0 or higher, I think it is very impressive. I hope this software will not be sold to other companies halfway through.

NURBS is not for pure visual work. It's power lies in the ability to produce model that can be manufactured. In the case of polygons, they are not mass manufacturable due to the inaccuracy. Rhino, Alias, Solidworks, and main CAD packages all support NURBS. Hence Plasticity is not similar to tools such as Blender as the output is not the same.

I also tried bunch of 3D programs and there are couuple of that i like so much, but i can say Blender is really one of best. 15-20 mins modelling work in 3ds Max can be done in 2-3 mins in Blender, which is insanity. For all those claiming that Blender is Free, yes you're right. But don't forget there's a foundation behind without unlimited funds, have you ever donated some money just 1 dollar cause all those fantastic persons don't live on fresh air. I've been using Blender since the beginning when so many people were criticising it and even the concept to be open source. So finally, question yourself should i always take without giving just a little something to talented developers. Plasticity is not free yes, but the developer isn't part of a foundation, that's why you have a indie license at 99 bucks for example. I'm not promoting exclusively Plasticity but everything isn't all about money or to be free. To be fair, having sense guys and some empathy that's the key.

Blender is free and open source. What plasticity is doing is it's allowing people to use it for free, report bugs and test the software, and then, when it's been improved by, essentially, free testers and code reviewers, they are planning to make a move to a paid model (and, AFAIK, a closed source model too? or would the codebase still be available and updated for those who are willing to assemble it themselves?), probably even making top development contributors to pay up. Which, IMO, is a dick move, it's not about the actual amount of money you pay, it's the thought that counts. And yeah, I bought tons of stuff on blender market with the heart thing, and I donated. What's your point? I'm sticking to Blender's workflows, especially considering how MeshMachine and HardOps don't feel like actual polymodelling at all, and, since I'm doing the animation and post in Blender as well, I am saving time and effort on import/export.

Then do some research. Not to state the obvious, but it's not hard at all to find the main difference. It's even "not so subtle" in the video thumbnail. Blender - Polygonal modeling, Plasticity - Solid modeling. If you're not aware of the difference between those 2 basic aspects then you should consider putting a little bit more effort in your research. You wouldn't compare or choose an apple over an orange. @@michieltieleman9462 Your comment is not only not helpful, but it makes a lot of assumptions. For starters, nowhere in my initial comment does it suggest that it was the end of my research. Secondly, it's often HELPFUL for people with inside knowledge and insight to provide information that someone likely wouldn't think to research on their own, especially if they're assumed knowledge base is so small they wouldn't even know where to begin researching. Never take expert opinions for granted. Third, this video from start to finish made it sound very clear that Plasticity is a new and separate application from Blender, which would still warrant a comprehensive breakdown and comparison of the tools from experienced and insightful users. I'd never even heard of Plasticity until this video, which is the point of these kinds of videos, to introduce people to new things. This is an opportunity for content creators to make genuinely useful and insightful content that people would actually be interested in (not to say this video wasn't insightful or interesting). While I understand that many different tools cater to different specialties, it's still a good idea to get insight from others and can be an important part of doing effective research. For example, I understand that even though applications like Blender, Maya, Houdini, ZBrush, and many others have a lot of similar capabilities, you would most likely use one of the other for very specific purposes. ZBrush has capabilities to do animation for example, but I'd never dream of using it over something like Blender or even Unreal Engine. These are areas for the OP to take advantage of their knowledgebase and experience with the different tools and grow their channel. No need to be negative in their comments section.

It uses NURBS, which are act much better with various Boolean operations than Blender. Well. And these are kinda different. Some things are messy there, but other things are really easy to make with NURBS. Haven't toughed that app, actually it's the first time I hear about it, so who knows. Maybe they got kinda best things from "both worlds". XD It's much longer story, but I think, you'll be able to find various info on NURBS modeling, to compare these things. I'm curious why various Hard Surfaces aren't made using NURBS. And the funny thing is, long time ago, like in 90-s, 80-s, NURBS was used for organic modeling. Because it's really smooth, while poligonal modeling wasn't that advanced, as it today. XD

@jstnmrvn "blender, maya, 3dsmax, cinema4d are based on "POLY" modeling." Not exactly.) Technically these all have some level of NURBS, MaYa even had actually, quite nice NURBS modelling tools, back in a day. It's rather, NURBS is not the focus of most of these packages. But who knows, maybe they'll give more attention to NURBS. "Gives better results? Gives good topology? For Rendering yes, but for game asset you need to fix the topology and shading issues." Yep. gives better reuslts with same booleans. While actually keeping geometry kinda lightweight. Or something like this. And it's exactly, what you're saying. The catch is, when we're talking about game assets. These are not NURBS. These are NURBS converted to polygons. With all the troubles of polygons. Considering that these are relatively low poly. And conversion to polies, can become kinda messy.

For what I researched, it's comparable to a paid add-on Blender could have for free and better or just as useful. Some add-ons in Blender are actually paid and fix a ton of polygon issues inside Blender. Sometimes even exporting from Blender and slicing in Ultimate Cura can fix a lot of things for free, cost being our extra time only. But I get some people are not that savvy, so those would rather pay for simplicity and some people just can do it. I'll stick to Blender whenever 3D is the conversation for a long time still.

I started out with Blender and learned to make hardsurface assets for games and got fucking sick of dealing with shit topology issues that Blender gives you. The fact that you need to use weird gimiks to work around those topology issues should tell you that Blender isn't great for that use (ie. Meshmachine, Hardops, Machinetools, and other topology related plugins only exist to fix Blenders shit topology issues). For example: Go into Blender, and make 2 cylinders perpendicular to eachother and intersect to form a "+" shape. Then subtract the horizontal cylinder from the other one to make a hole in the center. Make sure the mesh is shaded smooth > autosmooth and use a reflective matcap. Look at the shading issues and look at the verticies. Now try beveling the edges of the hole. See how that works out. Now do the same in a CAD program like Plasticity or Moi3d. Zero issues, you can even import it into Blender and it will look perfect. CAD programs handle topology way better, they're faster to use, they deal with bevels and booleans better, and they allow you to spend less time fixing bullshit topology issues and more time actually modelling. I still love Blender for all it's tools, but when it comes to hardsurface modelling, fuck Blender. I'd suggest trying a free trial of a CAD software (Plasticity is good) and see how it compares to modeling in Blender. Also, all software is free if you know where to look.
