Hello Catherine. A very honest video. My nan always used to say "If you're not feeling right(anxious), do cleaning. Clean the windows, polish, mop, sweep etc". Thought diversion. I also think folk who are heartfelt seem to suffer anxiety more. As you say it always passes and try not to question why for the way you feel. It won't kill you( another thing my nan used to say). Onwards and look up not down, look out not in.

Hi Catherine - you actually may have helped me in a way you didn't expect! This is the Brooklyn NY gardener in the community patch; I just lost a job two days ago because they said I was falling a little short of what they needed in terms of making decisions. But when you said you were feeling anxious because you were doing much too much, and talked about how you didn't feel like you could make decisions - I realized "hey, THEY were making me feel that way!" I had more things assigned to me in three MONTHS than I had assigned to me in another job over the span of three YEARS. So I'm realizing that maybe it was simply a bad fit rather than me being the problem - they just needed someone who could do far, FAR more than usual. (I'm unemployed today and I feel better than I have in weeks!) Something that helped me keep my calm before that happened, though, sounds a bit like what you said your accepting what your nervous system was doing. There were a couple times when I was feeling jittery and nervous at work - but something I found that worked was taking a deep breath and reminding myself that "this is just how I feel right THIS second." That reminded me that there was a chance that in just a bit I'd likely feel something different. And very often that was the case. Another thing I'm finding is helping me is acupuncture - but I'm not sure how much of that is the acupuncture, and how much is the fact that my acupuncturist is REALLY, REALLY cute. (blush) We'd actually met a year ago at a free concert and I actually tried to ask him out, but he already had a girlfriend. But we got on well, and so when I thought of trying acupuncture I gave him a try. I think things worked out how they were meant to.....but goodness is he ever cute, and it makes the fact that he's sticking needles in me a lot more palatable. (You actually don't really feel those needles anyway, to be honest.)

Aw thank you for sharing. I’m sorry that the job didn’t work out but I really do think something better will be on the way. Your really self aware and I think that’s a gift when your feeling a certain way. I’ve actually been doing Accupuncture the past two months as well 😁 been getting it to help with energy and of course, anxiety 😁 Thanks for sharing ❤

Never feel bad about saying no to things. 1. You have to take care of yourself financially, physically, and mentally. 2. I do think that it also is less special if you are on all the time. Keep doing what works for you.😊 Also thanks for sharing about the mental health. It is common and hits many people. It could be a season or more of a long term issue...but speaking about it here helps break the tabu around it. Please rest and continue therapy...because it is a personal journey.

Hugs to you, sweet Catherine. What has helped me is change in diet. Less caffeine--only one cup a day--reduced sugar intake, and more nourishing foods (good fats, good protein, vegetables (eat the rainbow). When I was given this advice in my 30's, I didn't think it was relevant. Then I discovered how vital it was in my 40's. I taught it to my daughter who is 22. I wish I had really invested in this when I was younger because it would've saved years of anxiety and medication.

As someone who is neurodivergent with anxiety, the honesty here is appreciated. ❤ It's always helpful just to realise that you're not alone. It's very true that acceptance can be a way to just ride it out. I tend to follow an inner mantra of acceptance during an anxiety attack (just acknowledging that I am experiencing anxiety) while tapping pulse points at the same time.

Catherine, you are speaking my language (anxiety)! The woman’s name is Emma McAdam (Therapy in a Nutshell), I watch her too. I found her during the pandemic and her videos were so helpful for me. I am old enough to to be your mom or grandmother and still need to deal with my anxiety. But you do learn to get a handle on it and accept who you are. No, you are not in immediate danger and the feeling will pass. You learn how to lean into it. Be curious about yourself and what is happening and learn about what is going on. You will empower yourself to move on. I admire all you do and appreciate your sharing. Thank you for your videos! By the way, I am a cat lover too…I have had cats all my life. Our last cat passed in March of 2020 and we are done being cat parents now. I still doing gardening with the help of my adult son. It is a lot of work, but very rewarding! All the best to you!

Catherine thank you for your honesty, anxiety is a very real thing!! there can be things behind it such as brain chemistry and or environment, as well as heritability. Triggers are very real and can change or dissipate. also coping mechanisms can change as well. I will caution the terminology of panic attacks which as someone with anxiety and thankfully has only experienced 1 it is the state of not being able to breathe normally and can be very scary as in I can’t talk and I think I’m having a heart attack ❤

If one works a lot and is ready to take responsibility as you're doing all the time, dear Catherine, then he fights with an open visir. That means that you present a lot of yourself to us, the audience. Of course you expect from yourself to always be on point and never to fail like every ambitious person. Remember you're fighting on your own, this might be heavy from time to time. However, letting us all into your world does also mean that we are there to support you as you bring so much joy and inspiration to us. So be patient with yourself and take good care of your health. Remember, we love the strong, diligent and very kind young Irish lady.❤

Re anxiety - I saw on a You tube video (I forget where!) that rubbing a wet towel across the back of the neck (and face - though difficult once you have your makeup on for the filming), can reduce/eliminate anxiety for a lot of people. 🙂

I began to suffer from anxiety & heart palpitations when I turned 67. Crazy, I know…not like life has been a bed of roses up to that point. I was still working a part time job, my mother moved in with us when she became ill with cancer & then passed away, my oldest dog passed away, my husband found out he has cancer & suffers from memory loss, my son in law passed from cancer & my 2nd dog passed away. All of this within a 3 yr period. Never had any issues until 67. Life is crazy. 🤪

Hello, I took the same test forever ago and I have the same code. I get really overwhelmed when I'm around a lot of people and I need to take a break and be by myself again. I used to teach marketing two small groups and always had huge boulders in my stomach. What I found was put on earpods and listen to upbeat singing music on my off time or the day of teaching. I make it loud enough so it stop your brain from talking😂 just be careful not to sing too loud, so embarrassing when somebody sitting there looking at you and you don't sing very well😂 that seemed to work for me. Hope it helps you. Love your videos I have been watching for a long time😊 You're too sweet to have that much pressure put on your brain, stop beating yourself up😊

Hi Catherine, I love your comments about stress and anxiety. It's so easy to just go to the GP and get some tablets but changing your lifestyle and recognising the triggers and the things that make you relax is so much more important for a long and happy life. Watching things grow nurturing them and enjoying them is the best relaxation. Thank you for your honesty and for sharing your journey xx

I've always had anxiety. I hate it. Therapy helps quite a bit. Thank you for speaking about this and being so open with us. I know how vulnerable it feels to be so open but it's important to "normalize" the conversation. For a long time I hid my struggles. I felt like if anyone found out, they'd think I was weak but the more you talk about it the more you see that you're not alone. Anyway thanks!

Thank you for the chat about anxiety Catherine. When you spoke about being alone to recharge and struggling with too much socialising I completely recognised myself. I’m 71 and have been an introvert all my life but people laugh at me if I say that because I just get on with things and put on a brave face. Inside, however, I’m churning. It’s so lovely to watch your videos and not feel I’m alone in feeling like I do. Thank you, again. Wish I had known someone like you as I was growing up. Bless you ❤
