What a treasure finding the fruit catalogues along with your grandfather's comments about the fruits he planted and those he tried to obtain from Italy & Switzerland. The family ties and traits that pass from one generation to another without knowing of it are fascinating. So nice to see all of the fruit trees thriving!

Hello, Marc, Amy and adorable Clement and Juliet. Clement worked very hard with his rather big spade and little feet stomping the earth down and Juliet was keeping a keen interest on your progress. Thank you all for a joyous video planting your orchard. I loved the historical record-books from your grandfather on how he planted his orchard, manner of planting and the varieties of fruits he chose from other countries. You must be very moved and delighted to be following, albeit unwittingly, in your grandpa's footsteps. I am amazed your trees have blossomed so quickly and with such an aray of beautiful flowers. Congratulations and thank you all for sharing these special days. Lots of love. Oh, I wanted to say how gorgeous your hair is Amy, it is so thick, shiny and healthy! Xxx🤗😙

What a fabulous vlog! To think that Marc is following in his grandfather's footsteps without even having met him, choosing similar varieties or at least those from a similar region, it feels like providence. And the music you chose was so great....the square dance/bluegrass music for the measuring and planting of the trees...I was sure I saw the chickens doing the do-si-do, haha! ❤️

Marc is like a re-incarnation of his grandfather --- to think that his approach to planting fruit trees is the same as the older generation - same careful procedure, the alphabetizing, careful measurement, the labeling, every detail referenced in his grandfather's books. That is so meaningful. The trees look incredibly good, love Clement helping , and his TB is precious. Amy is one wonderful partner, helping every step of the way, with granny on the side in case Juliette needs attention. Lovely young family building their future carefully. The history, the planting, the agricultural aspect of the chateau. They are just incredible with their approach to bringing this chateau back to life. It's just a lovely story, super blog.

How wonderful to have your grandfather's work on fruit trees Marc. I recall watching my grandparents, who had a small hobby farm, document what they grew, harvested, and preserved in their own journal. They knew where to order their favorite varieties of seed and I still order from a couple of companies they liked (one has always sold Clapp's Favorite Pear!).

There must be a tremendous sense of achievement at being able to bring the old orchard back to life again. Will you be adding some mesh wiring around the base ofthe trees to stop nibbling deer? Will both the local soil and the climate have an effect on their growth and on the taste of the varieties you have planted? It would be interesting to know if the resultant taste of your apple varieties might prove popular amongst local patisseries or fruit and vegetable shops.

I live in the Tirol in western Austria near Innsbruck. We have many apple trees on our small property. I found that planting in rows with different tree didn't always bring the wanted symmetric we had planned. Each tree has its variations in growth and appearance. I kept all of the tags in an album to make sure we wouldn't forget what we planted. I noticed that the bark didn't like windy conditions and the flapping tags. We made a small map and numbered each tree. Our time in the fall is very busy but oh what fun we have. Lots of pies, cakes, crumbles and apple cinnamon buns. I dry and can most fruits. We store many in the cellar and as some go bad throw them in the snow for the birds. They actually hollow them completely out. There is a local press and we make lots of cider. Nothing like an apple harvest. We also have apricot, pear and plum trees. Keeps us very busy in the autumn but thankful during our long winter. Now my grandchildren are enjoying the fruits we planted so many years ago. Glad to see that young families are doing the same. We enjoy your channel very much. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.

Really enjoyable vidio Amy of you and Mark with your beautiful babies working in your garden, it reminds me of happier times growing up when my parents first started their new garden from scratch. We planted fruit trees and one was a variety called a Worcester pearmain, it was the most delicious apple, and I think crossed with pear, I used to stand by it longing for it to be ripened. This was in the early fifties, things in England were very Hard to obtain and dad managed to buy a bundle of trees he was not sure what they were, but we were very lucky as they transpired to be a bramley cooking apple( a must if you like apple pie, a coxes orange pippin a Victoria plum and the most enormous comics pear so juicy. We were very lucky to have such wonderful fruit in such hard times. Dad grew all our vegetables tomatoes and the most beautiful chrysanthemums and Dahlias which we used to show at our little local gardening guild. Such happy memories for me. I love to see little Clement copying his dad and learning to garden with him, so important for children to be involved with the process. Lovely to see you all again fit and healthy, love to you all, Sandy

Clement, you should consider keeping a garden diary like your grandfather did, for the generations to come or for subsequent Chateau owners . You could also use modern technology to your garden diary by including photographic records. Maps of the chateau grounds might help in telling the story of your garden design.... will you include strawberries, kiwi(on the rock wall perhaps), and even blueberries to your fruit garden.

Watching tonight's vlog, and you are planting the orchard. Just moments before the vlog started I read 'To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow' a quote of Audrey Hepburn's. On your earlier post about the the thumbnails for tonight's vlog my comment about photo no2 was 'It shows love and pride in preparing for the future generations.' Preparing and planting your orchard, with the notes of Marc's grandfather's experience, and with the 'assistance' of Clemont, is a lovely way of investing in the future for your family and the earth.

Just when I thought your last vlog was my favorite this one wins out! As always I love Marc's historical finds and your gentle banter. And the music is perfect! Kudos to Clement for helping out while Mum & Juliette supervise. Happy Spring! 🥰
