Love all of those plants..have established (50+ years) endless summer hydrangeas throughout my landscape. Also have tons of peonies still in pots from three years ago. The clumps have tripled in size and all are putting up shoots. I was hoping to divide them up this year and put them around the hydrangeas and roses. I am in a full arm cast ~ so I am hoping to get my husband and son to help. I don’t remember the peony varieties so when they start budding up and blooming it will be a beautiful show for my birthday 😊 I have a bunch of cinnamon ferns that are looking quite whimsical as their curly frawns are up out of the ground but not fully open. I think it would look lovely to add some lady ferns at some point…. My biggest problem is keeping our 4 doodles out of the flower beds. Especially anywhere there is a Heather bush…they all have big bare spots in the middle from these cute big fluffy golden doodles 😂

Hey. That’s awesome. It will be so beautiful. Peonies are amazing flowers. They don’t bloom along time, but are worth it because of how stunning they are. I hope your arm gets feeling better sooner than later. Us gardeners need our arms to be at full capacity 😊 Our winter has been crazy this year. We have set a record for the most snow, so I can’t do anything yet. It’s just a waiting game. My Bareroots are doing great, the ferns are taking there time to grow for sure though. I have a cat, no dogs. My cat has been digging in my tulip containers. It’s annoying. Anyway, good luck with your dogs and with your gardening projects this year.

@@FlowerFanatic Be careful of daffodils and tulips when our pup was 13 weeks old she was eating the heads off of the daffodils and tulip plants; she got so deathly sick we almost lost her…. I didn’t know they were poisonous to animals. Ferns are known to be slow growers- 3 years for my cinnamon ferns to get full size.

I have one Sarah Bernhardt peony that I purchase in bloom from our local florist last year. I had to move it - waiting to see how it does in it's new spot this year - I moved it in early fall. The bloom (one bloom the entire season) was gorgeous last year♥ Looking forward to seeing yours bloom as well!

Fall is a good time to move. Hopefully you get another bloom, sometimes moving it will set it back for a bit, but it will be just fine 👍 they are my favorite! Plants have a mind of there own sometimes. I have moved one peony 4 times 😂😂😂. It’s safe to say it hasn’t bloomed yet. Still okay though…I’m definitely not moving it again. Thankyou!

I should have gotten some when I was there last. Think I'll make a trip this weekend. what the hell😮girl I jumped when I heard that noise.

Our honedpot and lowes here havent put their inventory yet fir spring and summer..and i havent seen bareroot mopehead before.i love blue hydrangea as well but my soil is alkaline .indid try to ammend some soil accidier last year and didnt really turn blue it more like a pail purple.this year im goig to put more acid sruff to get the blue.color.

Pale purple would be a win for me! That’s great. Sounds like you are gonna get those blue blooms. It’s a challenge, but it’s fun too don’t you think? This was the first year I have seen bareroot Nikko hydrangea. I’m excited to experiment with it. Hopefully you get some fun stuff to look at soon…if that’s the only thing you do.

I think the only downside to peonies is tidying up all of the petals. But they do make awesome cut flower arrangements.

I love them. Gardening is teaching me that there is a lot of challenges with the reward.

I just bought some Nikko blue bare root. It's July. Do I plant them now? Location will be East side against my house. Any special protection for winter in my 6b central PA location?

Sounds like the perfect spot. The only concern is protecting them in the spring if you get an unusual late spring frost when the buds start to open up. Winter Cloth fabric over the buds is an easy solution. Sometimes the cold snap can kill the flowerbuds. But they will be protected near the house which helps. Prune right after it’s done blooming if desired. Not typically needed. Don’t prune in spring or you might prune off the flower buds. Prune out dead in spring if any. I think you’re good otherwise. I bet yours will be happier than my utah climate. They like acidity.

How can i get seeds of peoniey please

I baught some bare roots yesterday one is a forsythia and the other two are Nikko blue and the other is the pink hydrangeas do I have to pot them or can I just put them straight in the ground? I’m in North Carolina and It just turned spring I’m not sure what zone I am in though

You can put them in the ground directly. They might go through a bit of transplant shock until those roots get established. They are used to being in a greenhouse, so they could benefit from being hardened off outside a bit to get used to your climate before planting them outside. 2 hours one day, 4 the next , and 6 the last day and than plant them. If it were me I would just plant them directly in the ground haha with some nice compost and if desired a root stimulator.

I planted a bunch of bare root last year. I am so curious how they will come up this year! I have such heavy soil so I am a little worried. I was wondering what state you are in?

Exciting! I’m in northern utah. We have clay soil too, but with a lot of compost, mulch and plants it’s a lot nicer. Add some compost this spring and some sand for better drainage. What bareroots did you plant. Peonies are pretty tough and tolerant of lots of soils.

I bought two hydrangeas just like the ones in your video. How long can I leave them in the bag that they came in? Also, when I do plant them, I assume that they’ll need some light but also need to stay inside due to the snow/winter? Where should I keep them after potting? Indirect light? Water frequently? Thanks

Hey. I’m glad you got some. Do you have some green growth on yours (I’m assuming so) pot them up in moist soil in warm nicely lit location inside your house somewhere. How cold is your climate? If you still have some freezes and cold temperatures for a bit, keep them in your house or warm area somewhere with nice light. Remove the soil from the bareroot and plant as I did in my video. You don’t have to water a ton. If the top 2 inches starts to dry out give it a nice saturation and let it drain out of a pot that holes on the bottom. I have been watering mine in my greenhouse about once a week and the temperatures in there are getting about 46-50 degrees at night and about 65-70 degrees during the day. It’s going to start warming up in my climate the next week. Mine is starting to put on more growth and taking root. When my temperatures get warmer outside and I’m ready to put them outside I will harden them off a bit so they get acclimated to the outside. That will be about a month and a half for me. Night temps above freezing and warmer during the day. Good luck…on a side note you might be confused when you take the soil off of your bareroot to repot because there might be some adventacious roots growing above the root ball because of the soil they have been surrounded with. I just pulled mine off and planted at the root ball. Good luck
